Decoding the symbols on a Whirlpool washing machine

Decoding the symbols on a Whirlpool washing machineWhirlpool washing machines, like those from other manufacturers, feature pictograms. These help advanced users understand how to operate the machine correctly. We offer a detailed explanation of the symbols on the Whirlpool washing machine's control panel.

Main drawings

The main signs are those that determine the operating mode and care of the laundry, as well as pictograms responsible for general control. Understanding how they are deciphered is especially important - if you choose a program that is not suitable for the type of fabric, there is a risk of ruining your clothes. In general, when using the machine for the first time, it is still worth studying the instructions so as not to start working with the machine by trial and error.

The image below shows four icons. All belong to the same series. Each one corresponds to a specific stage of garment care.

  1. Pre-wash - symbol of a basin with the Roman numeral one inside.
  2. Main wash - the same picture, but with the number two.icons of washing stages
  3. Rinsing - a basin with waves of water.
  4. The spin is in the form of a spiral or snail.

Important! You may also find the prewash indicator on the detergent dispenser; the manufacturer places it there to prevent consumers from confusing the compartments before starting the machine.

Another group of icons relates to the end of the wash cycle. A container filled with water, for example, signifies "Rinse Hold." Visually, this pictogram is very different from the standard "Rinse" pictogram—in the illustration, the water in the basin is completely clear. The drain is depicted as a container with an arrow emerging from the bottom (discharging water). The end of the cycle is indicated by a right-pointing arrow pointing toward the door (the vertical bar).drain and end of wash icons

This decoding is easy to remember. Some washing machine owners take an even simpler approach: they attach labeled paper stickers to the signs. This may seem excessive, but those with poor memories will appreciate this method.

Additional drawings

Different Whirlpool models have different features. Each feature is indicated on the control panel by its own icon. If the manufacturer wants to convey important information to the consumer for advertising purposes, it also places it on the body of the washing machine in the form of symbols. However, you can decipher these symbols yourself without additional instructions.

So, if your washing machine has a delay timer, you'll see a small square with the word "TIMER" written inside and a number—8, 12, 24. The number indicates the delay time for a specific model. If your washing machine boasts a low noise level, the manufacturer will indicate this with a small square with a sound wave inside and the words "very quiet." The imbalance control is a square with a circle and a double-sided arced arrow inside.additional functions

The "Easy Iron" feature is depicted as an iron enclosed in a square. Two dots are marked on the body of the iron, and a pair of horizontal lines are located under the soleplate. The drum capacity is indicated by a weight indicating the maximum load weight in kilograms. The extra rinse cycle is indicated by a water container with a right-facing arc arrow above it. "Foam Control" is a very convenient feature that allows you to remove excess foam and detergent from the drum using a special pump. It is represented by a square filled half with water and half with soap bubbles.additional functions

In addition to the auxiliary symbols, the Whirlpool control panel also features wash program symbols (12 in total). We've shown them in the image above. Let's try to briefly decipher them:

  • cotton - for cotton and linen items that are resistant to boiling;
  • Eco cotton is an economical program with an extended cycle time and reduced water and energy consumption;
  • synthetics - for mixed and synthetic materials, implies loading items that do not require special care;
  • delicate fabrics - delicate wash, with minimal spin and temperature no more than 30 degrees;
  • wool, silk, jeans, curtains - for corresponding fabrics and garments;
  • Sports - wash sports shoes at low temperatures with a slow spin cycle.

When washing sports equipment, it is better to use a special gel rather than standard washing powder.

The "Five Shirts" cycle (symbolized by a folded shirt) allows you to quickly wash 5-6 shirts at 30 degrees Celsius. The "Duvets" cycle is designed for down duvets. There are also additional icons indicating the availability of rare washing cycles or specific functions. To understand them, please read the instructions carefully.
