How to open a locked LG washing machine
Even with careful handling, there comes a time when modern appliances break down. There are many reasons for this. Often, a system malfunction occurs, and the LG washing machine simply needs to be unlocked. The device is programmed to remain locked for two minutes after the wash cycle is complete. Sometimes, after a while, the door still won't open. Let's take a closer look at how to resolve this issue.
Why doesn't the door open?
The main reasons for the hatch to become blocked may be:
- Automatic locking that occurs during the washing cycle for safety reasons. Sometimes it's impossible to open the door after the cycle is finished;
- the handle is jammed or the hatch lock is broken;
- a program failure occurred;
- the device does not drain water because the drain is clogged;
- There was a power outage or power outage. Opening the washing machine if it is locked will be impossible;
- included child protection function.
To remove the block, you need to find out the real reason and then take action.
Preparing for an emergency opening
Frantic attempts to open the door may not yield positive results. It's important to determine when the problem occurred. If the door won't open after a while, try using one of the "Spin" or "Rinse" options. If this doesn't work, check the drain hose; a blockage may be the cause. In this case, clean it and then run the spin cycle.
Often, the unblocking process occurs automatically after a while; simply unplug the appliance. The waiting time ranges from ten to thirty minutes. If there's still no result, take immediate action by ensuring there's no water in the unit. To do this, follow these steps:
- open the filter cover to collect debris;
- find the emergency drain hose (usually located on the left side);
- Place a deep basin next to the washing machine, open the plug and drain the water.

Let's unlock it quickly
If the lock is broken, removing the lock and then opening the washing machine door using a special cable isn't always possible. However, there is a reliable and proven method. First, you should de-energize the device and move it to a spacious room for a detailed inspection.
Remove the top cover, reach inside, and feel for the emergency release button. Press it while attempting to open the door. This attempt should be successful. If the blockage is caused by a broken handle or lock, professional assistance will be necessary.

There's another method. To remove the top cover, use a screwdriver to loosen the nuts on the back panel of the washing machine, then gently pull the cover upward. Don't apply too much force, as this could damage the panel. Now tilt the machine so the drum moves away from the wall. At this point, remove the fasteners and move them aside. The lock should be released.
In addition to the above, there's another interesting way to open a locked door. You'll need a little skill, some strong thread, and a thin flat-head screwdriver. You can also use a metal nail file. Take the thread and thread it through the hole between the frame and the door using the screwdriver, as if threading the door.
Please note! The thread must be thin, otherwise it simply won't fit through the gap under the door.

After threading the door from the lock side, gently pull the ends of the thread with a little force. The pressure will cause the lock to click and open.
If you still can't open your washing machine yourself, you should contact a service center to avoid further damage. A qualified technician will identify the cause and promptly resolve the issue. Otherwise, repair costs will increase significantly.
