Disassembling the dishwasher

disassembling the dishwasherFew people would just "dabble" inside an expensive appliance for the fun of it. The need to disassemble a dishwasher usually arises when the appliance suddenly breaks. That's when it becomes necessary to ask how to properly disassemble it so as not to break anything, replace the damaged part, and then reassemble it without incident. This is precisely what we'll discuss in this article.

Getting ready for disassembly

In a Bosch dishwasher, as in other brands, all the most important parts are located at the bottom. At first glance, it seems like a simple matter to flip the car upside down, remove the oil pan, and gain access to everything you need. In practice, things are actually a bit more complicated, but more on that later; first, let's get started.

In any endeavor, preparation is the foundation of the entire project. About half of all failures are the result of a poorly prepared workspace, tools, and materials, as well as a lack of necessary information. To avoid any mishaps, let's start by preparing your workspace. Naturally, few people have a full-fledged workshop at home. If you do, great; if not, no problem. Follow these steps.

  • Pull the Bosch, Siemens (or other brand) dishwasher out of its niche in the kitchen cabinet, then turn off the water supply and unplug the power cord.
  • Disconnect the inlet hose and the drain hose.
  • In a convenient place for work, spread out some cellophane, put a few rags on top, and place the dishwasher on them.

Please note! Some people find it easier to disassemble their Bosch dishwasher in the bathroom to prevent water from spilling onto the floor. If you have a spacious bathroom, you might want to try this trick.

The dishwasher is ready for disassembly. Now let's get the tools ready. It's worth noting right away that the dishwasher can be disassembled practically with bare hands. The most we'll need is:

  1. Phillips and flat head screwdriver;
  2. pliers;
  3. thin awl.

To carry out repairs, you may also need other tools, such as a multimeter, tweezers, a soldering iron, side cutters, or an adjustable wrench, but that's a whole other story for a separate article.

How does a dishwasher work?

Perhaps we are repeating truisms in vain, but I think it won’t hurt. To properly disassemble and then reassemble a Bosch dishwasher (or another brand), you need to have at least a superficial understanding of its structure. and about that, How does a dishwasher work? The general structure of a dishwasher is shown in the image below; this should be sufficient for a thorough inspection.

Stages of disassembly

Once we've thoroughly prepared for disassembling the Bosch dishwasher, we can begin work with a clear conscience.

In order, without skipping anything, we perform the following steps:

  • We use a flat-head screwdriver to hook and remove the bottom panel of the dishwasher.
  • We open the dishwasher door and unscrew the fasteners located on the sides.
  • We close the door, grab its front panel with our fingers and, pressing down, remove it.
  • Now we open the door again and unscrew the screws from its upper end. It becomes possible to remove the control panel unit.
  • We unscrew the metal plate, which is located just under the dishwasher door.disassembling the dishwasher
  • We remove the soundproofing material from under the dishwasher door, and then unscrew the 4 fasteners connecting the base to the main part of the body.
  • We take out the dish baskets from the dishwasher tank.
  • We remove the rotating flat bar with holes – this is the sprinkler.
  • We unscrew the debris filter by turning it counterclockwise.
  • We remove the fine filter (flat metal mesh).
  • We noticed that there are 4 screws that hold the base of the lower sprinkler, they definitely need to be unscrewed.

Important! When removing the screws from the dishwasher tray, be prepared for some water to spill out, but since we laid down some rags and plastic wrap beforehand, nothing serious will happen.

  • We remove the thermal insulation material and the side walls of the dishwasher.
  • Turn the dishwasher upside down with the tray facing up. On the side between the pan and the body you will see a filler pipe, unhook the clamps and remove it.
  • Grab the tray with both hands and gently pull it upward. It's important not to tear the wires, so it's best to remove them beforehand.
  • In the center of the tray, you'll see a large plastic housing for the circulation pump. The pump is mounted on the side. It needs to be removed. Disconnect the power cord, then turn the pump counterclockwise and remove it.
  • Now we'll remove the circulation pump itself. To do this, we need to detach the rubber fasteners at the bottom, then remove the drain hose from the circulation pump housing and disconnect the pump itself. That's it, disassembly is complete!

If you manage to disassemble the dishwasher before removing the circulation pump, you will be able to replace any broken parts yourself. Reassembly must be carried out in strictly reverse order, without forgetting anything, then everything will go well.

In conclusion, disassembling a dishwasher is a fairly simple process. Almost anyone can do it, as long as you remember to tighten all fasteners and connect all power cables. Good luck!

    To the left of the dishwasher are containers filled with water. If you tip them over, they'll spill. There's at least 2 liters in there. What should I do?

      It won't flow
