Dimensions of a built-in dishwasher
The size of your dishwasher and any other appliance is crucial when organizing your kitchen space. It's crucial to wisely distribute every square centimeter of space so everything fits and looks beautiful. If your kitchen is very small, this becomes a crucial issue. Let's discuss the different dishwasher sizes and what you can expect.
Regulated dimensions of dishwashers
Until January 1, 1994, there was a standard called GOST 27454, which strictly regulated not only the dimensions of dishwashers, but also all their technical specifications. For example, For built-in models, the dimensions of width, depth, and height should not exceed the following values: 50 cm, 60 cm, and 81.5 cm, respectively.Moreover, the deviation from the established parameters should not exceed 5 mm.
Such strict standards ensured perfect compliance between the manufactured cookware and its capacity. In addition, the standard stipulated other requirements, including:
- the power cord is not shorter than 2 m;
- the distance between the wall and the back wall of the dishwasher should be at least 5 cm, which will ensure normal ventilation;
Important! This gap must be taken into account in advance, even during the furniture manufacturing stage.
- A dishwasher built under a sink must have a recess for
drainage pipes at least 15 cm deep.
Despite the fact that GOST 27454 no longer exists, modern built-in dishwashers, while varying in size, haven't deviated far from those standards. Here are their basic dimensions:
- height from 46 to 82 cm;
- width from 45 to 75 cm;
- depth from 48 to 62 cm.
A variety of built-in models
All modern built-in dishwashers can be divided into 4 groups:
- a mini dishwasher with dimensions of 45x46x48 cm (WxHxD) and a capacity of 5 place settings, making it possible to fit such a machine into a small kitchen unit of 6 sq.m.;
Please note! Some of these machines include under-sink dishwashers, which are very convenient and functional.
- compact – dishwashers with dimensions of 55x45x50 cm, their capacity is 6 sets;
- Medium – the most common type of built-in dishwasher, its dimensions are: width from 45 to 60 cm, height 85 cm, depth – 62 cm, the capacity of such a dishwasher is 9 place settings, and accordingly, energy consumption is higher. Medium-sized machines also include narrow models, the width of which is 45 cm;
- Large – spacious dishwashers, designed for 12 place settings or more, dimensions are 75x85x62 cm.

How to avoid making a mistake in sizes?
So how can you avoid making a mistake when choosing a dishwasher? To ensure the appliance fits perfectly, you need to calculate every detail down to the millimeter during the planning and drawing stages of your kitchen unit. Consider what furniture will be integrated into the unit and how it should be positioned relative to the utility lines.
When calculating the countertop depth, under which floor-standing dishwashers are most often installed, remember to take into account the width of the front panel, if the machine will be completely hidden. Furthermore, It is necessary to leave a small gap between the walls of the cabinet set of 0.5-0.8 cm. Therefore, before ordering furniture, decide what size appliances you will be installing.
Important! The washing machine manual details not only the dimensions of the machine itself, but also the dimensions of the intended niche into which it should be installed.
So, the dimensions of a built-in dishwasher are an important consideration when choosing its placement. But in pursuit of the perfect design, don't forget about its capacity. A 55 cm wide and 40 cm deep dishwasher might be ideal, but consider how large its interior volume will need to be, taking into account the thickness of the walls and insulation. After all, if the dishwasher is too small, then you will be able to wash very little in it., and if you have a family of 4... Look for a compromise and then the purchase will be justified.
