How to disassemble the drum in an LG washing machine?

How to disassemble the drum in an LG washing machineTypically, quick and easy disassembly of a washing machine stops short when you reach the drum. Here, the situation becomes more complicated due to the motor fixed to the shaft, a multitude of fasteners, and the need to work from inside the machine. Despite the difficulties, disassembling a washing machine drum is within anyone's capabilities; all you need to do is follow the instructions. These instructions will be discussed below.

Let's assemble the tool

LG washing machines delight their owners not only with their advanced functionality and stylish design, but also with their easy-to-repair features. The manufacturer has ensured that the case can be easily disassembled, requiring a minimum of tools. You can handle the upcoming work with screwdrivers and pliers. But the process will go faster and easier if you have the following additional supplies:tools for disassembling the drum

  • round-nose pliers;
  • spanner;
  • hammer;
  • awl;
  • universal wrench with socket heads.

To disassemble the LG machine, you only need pliers and a screwdriver (flat-head and Phillips).

Once all the tools are assembled, we move on to the washing machine. The design of most washing machines is virtually identical. The only differences are between the LG models with direct drive and belt drive. In the former, the inverter motor is attached directly to the drum, while in the latter, it's connected via a pulley and drive belt. Therefore, we open the manufacturer's manual and look at the layout of the system components.

Progress of work

To access the drum, first disconnect the machine from the power supply, water supply, and sewer lines. Drain any residual liquid from the drain hose, then remove the water through the waste filter. Don't forget to remove the laundry from the machine and move the appliance away from the wall, ensuring free access to the rear panel.Then we sequentially remove the top and front covers, remove the counterweights, instrument panel, pressure switch, hatch door, cuff, and other system components until the tank is visible.

  1. We find the drain pipe at the bottom of the tank, loosen its fastening and remove it.we take out the tank with the drum
  2. We unscrew the central bolt on the electric motor, fixing it in a fixed position, and remove the engine from the machine.
  3. We unscrew the fasteners at the dampers, take them out, and then remove the tank from the suspension springs.
  4. With the help of a friend, we take the drum out of the washing machine.
  5. Place the removed container on a flat surface.
  6. Using a screwdriver, unscrew all the bolts on the body.

A life hack from repairmen: turn the top cover of the washing machine over and use it to store all the small components (clamps, screws, nuts, terminals, connectors).

  1. We divide the tank into two parts, setting the upper half aside.
  2. We turn the lower part upside down and treat it with WD-40.
  3. After 40-60 minutes, knock out the drum by hitting the bushing with a hammer.
  4. We pry up the oil seal with a minus screwdriver and remove it.
  5. We install the bolt on the outer part of the exposed bearing and knock it out by tapping it in a circle with a hammer.

Removing the inner bearing completes the drum disassembly. All that remains is to thoroughly clean the drum walls, install a new bearing assembly, and a pair of seals. Next, reassemble the washing machine, following the instructions described above, but in reverse order.
