Disassembling an Ariston top-loading washing machine

Disassembling an Ariston top-loading washing machineMany problems require accessing the inside of the washing machine. For example, if the pump, motor, or electronic unit is broken, the bearings or shock absorbers are worn out, or the drive belt is stretched. Then users wonder: how to disassemble an Ariston top-loading washing machine?

In fact, you can tackle this task at home without calling a professional. The key is to follow the instructions. We'll explain where to begin disassembling, what challenges you might encounter, and what tools you'll need to have on hand.

We prepare everything necessary

Top-loading washing machines differ slightly from front-loading machines, but not significantly. Their internal components are identical; only the layout of the main components changes. Before disassembling the washing machine, several preparatory steps are necessary:

  • Be sure to de-energize the washing machine by unplugging the power cord from the outlet;
  • close the shut-off valve in front of the washing machine inlet hose;
  • disconnect the device from the sewer;
  • ensure free access to all sides of the washing machine body - to do this, move the machine to the center of the room;
  • prepare a container to collect water (liquid will spill out when you remove the waste filter);
  • Cover the floor under the washing machine with dry rags.

You must not disassemble a machine that is not powered on – it is easy to get an electric shock.

It's also best to prepare all the tools you might need during disassembly. These include:washing machine repair tools

  • Phillips and slotted screwdrivers;
  • spatula;
  • pliers;
  • wrenches of different sizes;
  • set of socket heads;
  • pliers;
  • round-nose pliers.

The required tool kit will vary depending on the nature of the problem. In some cases, screwdrivers alone will suffice. Here, you'll need to assess the situation.

You may also need electrical tape, a set of clamps, sealant, and WD-40 during the work. You'll also need to purchase replacement parts immediately. It's recommended to purchase genuine Ariston parts.

It would be a good idea to look through the user manual. The instructions describe the structure of the washing machine. Ariston, it is explained which elements are located where. Having studied the information, you can begin to disassemble the vertical.

Removing the panel and water level sensor

First, you need to drain any remaining water from the washing machine. To do this, you'll need to remove the drain filter plug. The waste container is located at the bottom of the Ariston washing machine, behind the access door.

The next steps will depend on the final goal. If you need to access the pressure switch or instrument panel, you'll need to start by removing the top of the housing. The step-by-step instructions are as follows:

  • insert a spatula under the dashboard and carefully lift the panel to loosen the two spring fasteners;
  • carefully pull the control panel towards you;lift the top panel
  • remove the instrument panel and put it aside;
  • inspect the opened programmer and the inlet valve;
  • If diagnostics of the control module is required, remember, or better yet, take a photo of the wiring diagram and terminals connected to the unit;Removing the top panel of a top-loading machine
  • disconnect the wiring from the control unit;
  • remove the pressure switch tube;
  • unscrew the two bolts securing the electronic unit;
  • Remove the central control unit, untangling the remaining wires.

Now you can begin diagnosing the electronic module. Inspect the board for defects, such as bulges, burn marks, or rust. If everything appears to be in order, test the semiconductors with a multimeter.

If you need to remove the water level sensor, unscrew the screws holding it in place. Sometimes a clogged fitting can cause the pressure switch to malfunction, so try blowing out the tube. If this doesn't help, replace the part.

Starting capacitor, pump and motor

If the goal of the repair is to access the motor, you should start by disassembling the lower part of the washing machine. For ease of handling, place the washing machine on the floor, preferably covered with a blanket. It is very important to prevent water from getting on the machine's electronic module, as this may cause a short circuit. Therefore, first drain any remaining liquid from the washing machine.

To remove the electric motor, you need to:

  • disconnect the drain hose from the washing machine body;
  • secure the top cover of the vertical machine with electrical tape so that it does not rise when the machine is placed down;
  • carefully lower the machine to the floor, laying it on its back panel;
  • Unscrew the bolts holding the bottom of the case.Removing the side panel of a top-loading washing machine
  • Use a 5/16 socket to loosen the fasteners that hold the drive belt;
  • remove the protective cover;
  • disconnect the connector connected to the engine;How to replace a washing machine motor
  • remove the drive belt;
  • Use a 1/2" socket to loosen the motor mounts.

After this, the motor can be removed from the washing machine housing. Next, the component is diagnosed: the brushes are inspected and the windings are tested. Based on this information, a decision is made whether motor repair is advisable or whether a complete motor replacement is better.

To access the drain pump, you need to remove the left side of the Ariston washing machine. Disconnect the hoses and wires connected to the pump. Then, pull the part toward you and remove it from the washing machine.

Dismantling the main unit of the machine

In some cases, complete disassembly of the washing machine is required. For example, when bearings need to be replaced. The drum of a vertical washer is removed in a special way. The washing machine should stand on its feet. First, remove the top cover. To do this:

  • deal with the fasteners that secure the panel to the body;
  • slide the panel towards you until you hear a characteristic sound – this will indicate that the latches have been activated;
  • lift the top cover;
  • secure the retaining chain to the holders on the lid and body;
  • Lower the panel, making sure it is securely suspended.

Now you can begin dismantling the drum itself. Here's the procedure:

  • Use a screwdriver to press on the tabs and remove the tank lid;
  • Unhook the detergent dispenser;vertical dispenser
  • Use a 7/16 socket to remove the drum fasteners;
  • loosen and remove the tank nut;
  • find the drive shaft;
  • loosen the clamps and disconnect the shaft from the drive mechanism;
  • Unscrew the fasteners located on the drain pump cover;
  • put the top cover of the case back in place and close it tightly;
  • carefully place the washing machine on its back wall;
  • open the pump cover;we get to the pump through the bottom
  • disconnect the wire from the drain pump;
  • unhook the drain pipe from the pump;
  • remove the drain pump from the washing machine;
  • disconnect the terminals from the capacitor, electric motor, drive and gearbox;
  • remove the gearbox;
  • Disconnect the remaining wires from the tank.vertical tank and drum

Now you need to return the washing machine to its upright position. The top lid is removed and hung on the chain. Here, you need to disconnect the pressure sensor tube, wiring harness, weights, and ball joints from the drum.

Once there's no obstruction, remove the drum from the washing machine. Next, place the drum on a flat, horizontal surface. If the bearings need to be replaced, you'll need to split the drum in half.

The tank of most Ariston models is collapsible, so there will be no difficulties with its “separation”.

To separate the tank, simply unscrew the retaining bolts located around the circumference and release the latches. This will give you access to the bearings and seal. Reassemble the tank in reverse order. It's best to additionally use a moisture-resistant sealant—it will ensure a more secure connection between the halves.removal of a damaged bearing

In principle, disassembling a vertical washing machine is not difficult. The main thing is to follow the instructions carefully. Complete disassembly is not always necessary; sometimes, just the top panel or side panel is sufficient. Everything will depend on the location of the element requiring inspection and repair.

    My Ariston Hotpoint mvtf 601 h washing machine stopped spinning. I searched online and talked to the parts seller on the phone—it all came down to the motor brushes. I bought it and barely got the side cover off, even breaking one of the hooks. It turned out the belt had come off. The motor was running, but the drum wasn't spinning. I put the belt back on and had a hard time reinstalling the cover. It seemed to be working, and nothing was spilling. I did the repairs right in the bathroom.
