Adjusting the Bosch Dishwasher Door

Adjusting the Bosch Dishwasher DoorModern dishwashers generally have a similar design. This is why adjusting the dishwasher door shouldn't be a problem for anyone who's already customized their dishwasher to their needs. The door mechanism itself is extremely simple, but it has one drawback, especially in built-in dishwashers. This is when, during use, the door suddenly stops locking in a half-open position, or even stops locking completely in a fully open position. If this has happened to your appliance, you can find a solution in this article.

Let's remove the machine from the niche

Don't rush into adjusting your Bosch dishwasher door; you need to thoroughly prepare for the repair first. Preparation will make the rest of the job easier, so don't skip it.

  • First, disconnect the dishwasher from all utilities and remove it from the kitchen cabinet in which it is installed.
  • Prepare all the necessary tools and materials that are usually found in any home.
  • Carefully read the instructions for restoring the door's functionality and only then begin repairs.we pull the dishwasher out of the niche

While the third step is self-explanatory, as you're currently working on it, the first two are worth exploring in more detail. You need to disconnect the unit from the power supply and water supply, remembering to carefully coil the cord and inlet hose to hang them on the special holder at the back of the dishwasher.

Don't forget to plug the end of the filling hose.

Most often, the "home assistant" is installed in a niche using special fasteners that secure it to the kitchen unit. To remove it, you will need a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew all the fasteners, disconnect the housing fasteners, and then remove the machine itself. Be careful when handling the equipment; it may not weigh much, but if handled incorrectly and dropped, it can cause serious damage, significantly increasing repair costs. Cover the floors with rags or old towels beforehand to prevent accidental spills from any water remaining after the last cycle, and to prevent the dishwasher from being knocked onto the floor when placed on a soft surface. This will ensure easy access to all sides of the dishwasher, making it easier to adjust the door.

In addition to a Phillips screwdriver, you'll also need a hex key, pliers, and a 1.5mm metal cable. You might not need the latter, so don't rush into buying it. First, make sure it's truly necessary, which we'll determine in the next section.

Let's make adjustments

Now that your "home assistant" is ready for restoration, you can begin repairs at home. First, you need to remove the side walls, as well as the dishwasher cover, so that you can easily access the soft-opening mechanism of the door. At this point, the partial disassembly of the equipment will be completed; only work on the mechanism itself remains.

  • Start with the screws that secure the right side of the machine. Unscrew them and remove the side.unscrew the walls of the dishwasher
  • Move on to the clips holding the left wall in place and then remove that too.
  • Remove the retaining screws from the top cover, which should also be temporarily set aside.

Under the front cover, you'll see two screws, with cables running along the sides of the screws, eventually connecting to the springs. This is the door opening mechanism, which needs to be addressed to restore proper functionality. It's important to precisely adjust these components to either restore smooth door opening or to ensure it can be locked in a partially open position. To do this, follow these instructions:

  • take a hex key and tighten the screws with cables that go to the tensioned springs;adjusting the dishwasher door
  • in a situation where the door opens with effort, the tension of the springs must be loosened until the door no longer opens with difficulty;
  • If the door does not stay in the half-open position, then the tension needs to be increased.

It's much worse if one of the cables breaks due to wear, significantly increasing the load on the other cable, causing it to also stop functioning properly. In this case, there's no point in adjusting the remaining intact cable, as the broken part simply needs to be replaced. What should be done?

  • Loosen the screw that holds the damaged cable.
  • Using pliers, remove the cable from the screw and then disconnect it from the spring.
  • Install a new metal cable in its place, which can be purchased at any specialized store.replacing the dishwasher door cable
  • Use pliers to tighten it and secure it to the screw.
  • Adjust the tension to adjust the door opening mechanism.
  • Assemble the dishwasher according to the instructions in reverse order.

As you can see, you can handle this type of repair yourself, without calling a service center specialist. Moreover, repair service technicians usually charge real money for this type of work, making it a great way to save money.
