Adjusting the washing machine door

Fixing a hatch problem

Play is the gap that occurs between components (assemblies) that work together. In our case, this refers to the gap between the door mounting and the frame. First, the cause of the malfunction must be determined, which requires completely removing the hatch. Once the problem is identified, troubleshooting begins, following the following steps:

• the door opens fully;
• using a screwdriver (in some cases an 8 mm wrench), unscrew the screws on the hinges (usually two);
• the hatch closes halfway;
• the door is pulled towards itself and at the same time lifted (until it is completely removed).

After removing the door, the first step is to assess the condition of the small plastic parts attached to the hinges. Experience has shown that in most cases, play in the washing machine door hinges is caused by wear and tear.

This is important! It's unlikely you'll be able to purchase new parts from a store. To fix the problem, you can use standard FUM tape.

The repair is performed as follows: a roughly equal layer of medium-thickness FUM tape is wrapped around the hinges. The hatch is then reinstalled, but the screws are not tightened. The door is opened and closed several times. If a gap is detected, it is removed again and a few more turns of tape are added. The inspection is repeated. In cases where the initial FUM layer is too thick, the excess must be removed.

Disadvantage of the above method

Of course, there may be some hesitation about the feasibility of completely replacing plastic bushings with fluoroplastic film designed to seal threaded connections. The key in this case is to address the problem promptly. Therefore, it's much more practical to purchase inexpensive fluoroplastic tape at your local hardware store than to spend time searching for plastic spools of the right size.

Of course, the belt's wear resistance is very low. In all likelihood, you'll need to adjust the washing machine door again after two or three months. But remember, this will only take about ten minutes. Furthermore, the cost of doing the repair yourself is mere pennies compared to calling a technician and purchasing rare spare parts.

We strongly recommend cleaning the hinge recesses of the washing machine at the same time as fixing the door play. This is because rust and dirt accumulate in these recesses with prolonged use. Cleaning them with the hinges secured is virtually impossible. Therefore, when fixing the play, you can remove the hinges from the recesses and remove the dirt.
