- Firstly, vertical loading of laundry is more convenient, since you don’t have to bend over when loading items into the machine.
- Secondly, horizontal loading of laundry does not allow you to add dirty items during the washing process, which cannot be said about vertical loading.

A top-loading washing machine is best. When there's no water, I fill it up with buckets from the top, and it washes like a charm. And even better is a manual control. I have an Electrolux, it's been around for 10 years, time to pay my pension!

We've had a German Seimens since 2001. It just broke yesterday. We've never had any problems with it. Now I don't even know which one to buy. German washing machines aren't sold in stores, and that's a shame!
Yes, they say washing machines used to be great. But if you look at modern ones, you can find plenty of good ones too. Hotpoint-Ariston had some particularly inexpensive top-loading machines. Now, though, they're just called Hotpoint.

I would put Indesit, and perhaps Hotpoint, closer to the top of this list :) They make good washing machines, and they are clear leaders in terms of service life.
