automatic top-loading machineTop-loading washing machines have many fans, and rightfully so. After all, these machines have their own advantages. When purchasing a home appliance, buyers are interested in a variety of criteria that the chosen model must meet. These criteria are best reflected in the ranking of washing machines sold over a given period.

It takes into account not only the entire range of quality criteria but also customer reviews and sales figures for a particular brand of household appliances. In this article, we'll look at the most popular and best automatic top-loading washing machines, according to one of these ratings. We'll provide a review.

Criteria for evaluating the best washing machine

When trying to determine which top-loading washing machine model is best in a given price range, consumers should consider the following criteria:

  • washing quality - information about this is indicated in the technical data sheet in the form washing class, designated by the Latin letters A, B, C, etc. Class A is considered the best.
  • Efficiency – this criterion refers to how much energy and water the washing machine consumes. These technical characteristics are also indicated in the data sheet. The highest energy efficiency class – Class A++. As for water consumption, washing machines consume on average about 60 liters. This depends on the wash cycle and the maximum drum load.
  • Drum capacity – the maximum load varies from 3 to 14 kg; machines with a 7 kg load capacity are considered optimal for home use.
  • operating principle - vertical loading machines can be drum or activator type, it is believed that actuator machines more reliable, but modern models have complex electronics, which, as in drum models, affects reliability and service life.
  • Number of washing modes – the number of programs can vary greatly. Some machines have a standard set of washing modes, while others, in addition to the standard ones, have a host of additional ones, such as drying, drum cleaning, eco-wash, and ironing. Some of these features may be useless, so it's worth paying attention to them, as the number of modes directly affects the price of the car. Perhaps there is a feature you will particularly like.
  • Protection level – this criterion includes various protection systems that can be built into the washing machine, namely protection against water leaks, protection from children, protection against power surges.
  • Brand and country of manufacture – it's long been believed that European-made washing machines (Germany, Italy, Sweden) are better quality than Asian-made ones (China, Korea), but they're also more expensive. Which machine is right for you?

This is an actuation washing machine with 33 wash modes. Prices start at $1,240. But which is objectively better?

Top-loading vs. front-loading laundry: which is better?

top-loading washing machineIt's impossible to say whether loading laundry horizontally or vertically in a washing machine is better. This doesn't affect the washing quality in any way. However, top-loading machines do have some advantages.

  • Firstly, vertical loading of laundry is more convenient, since you don’t have to bend over when loading items into the machine.
  • Secondly, horizontal loading of laundry does not allow you to add dirty items during the washing process, which cannot be said about vertical loading.
  • Thirdly, the dimensions of a top-loading machine are much smaller than those of a front-loading machine with the same maximum load capacity. This makes it possible to install such a machine in a small bathroom.

However, the disadvantages of a top-loading machine, namely the limited design and the inability to install it, sometimes outweigh the listed advantages in favor of an automatic washing machine with a horizontal loading system.

So, the ranking and review of washing machines in various price categories shows that each category has a best-selling model with its own strengths and weaknesses. But no one, not even the experts who review such machines repeatedly, can say with absolute certainty which one is the best. There is no ideal washing machine, just as there is no perpetual motion machine. Choose a car based on its technical specifications, not its design. Write your own review, and you'll have a better chance of buying the best car.

A top-loading washing machine is best. When there's no water, I fill it up with buckets from the top, and it washes like a charm. And even better is a manual control. I have an Electrolux, it's been around for 10 years, time to pay my pension!

    • Gravatar Elena Elena:

Natasha, what model is your Electrolux, please tell me?

      • Gravatar Natasha Natasha:

Electrolux EWT1010, they probably don't produce them anymore, that was a long time ago.

    • Gravatar Yura Yura:

Or even better, a trough from a fairy tale)

    • Gravatar Alex Alex:

I have a Zanussi, it's 15 years old, it'll be 16 this spring. We've had it repaired twice. It works perfectly; they don't make things like that anymore. And anyway, I understand all technology has gotten much worse these days!

  2. Gravatar Gayane Gayane:

I have a Whirlpool Awe6416. It's also been working flawlessly for ten years. It's a great machine, and I'm sure there are no others like it!

  3. Gravatar of Light Sveta:

June 13, 2000, the Ardo machine broke down today - that's a long time.

  4. Gravatar Albina Albina:

The Ardo washing machine has been working for over 18 years now. I don't even know what to do with it. It's a shame to throw it away (the lid has already fallen off), but it still works. And I want a new one!

    • Gravatar Lida Lida:

I have an Ardo, too, for 17 years. It's started spinning really loudly. Apparently the bearings are completely worn out and sometimes it refuses to drain. Where can I get one like that?

  5. Gravatar Svetlana Svetlana:

I have a 1996 Daewoo, it still works.

  6. Gravatar Oleg Oleg:

I had the machine since March 9, 2006 - very comfortable (like in the picture above), but the oil seal started leaking... sad... the mechanics say that they almost don't make such high-quality ones like they used to.

  7. Gravatar Sergey Sergey:

Indesit VT102. It's been working for 15 years, but the top cover has rotted and started vibrating. Now I need a new one. My wife says let's buy a front-loading one because it's cheaper. I don't even know.

  8. Gravatar Andrey Andrey:

We have AEG working here since 1985, and still in Finnish!

  9. Gravatar Manka Manka:

And I’m still happy with my Indesit, it works great.

  10. Gravatar Marusya Marusya:

I have a VEKO, it's been working for 18 years. I wash it every day because there is a disabled person in the family, group 1, and it only started vibrating now.

  11. Gravatar Tatyana Tatiana:

Brandt, French made. Since 1997. Everything's fine, except the rubber seals on the lid have darkened. It's a shame they don't have any more. I know I'll have to replace them soon...

  12. Gravatar Nursia Nursia:

We've had a German Seimens since 2001. It just broke yesterday. We've never had any problems with it. Now I don't even know which one to buy. German washing machines aren't sold in stores, and that's a shame!

  13. Gravatar Kirill Kirill:

Yes, they say washing machines used to be great. But if you look at modern ones, you can find plenty of good ones too. Hotpoint-Ariston had some particularly inexpensive top-loading machines. Now, though, they're just called Hotpoint.

  14. Gravatar Vladimir Vladimir:

I have a Whirlpool top-loading washer—in my memory, it’s the most reliable machine I’ve ever owned!

  15. Gravatar Sergey Sergey:

I would put Indesit, and perhaps Hotpoint, closer to the top of this list :) They make good washing machines, and they are clear leaders in terms of service life.

  16. Gravatar Lena Lena:

I have a Brandt. It worked for 18 years!
