Washing machine door repair

Washing machine door repairSometimes washing machine door repair is unavoidable. Careless loading, carelessness, or overly active children can lead to broken latches, broken glass, and loose hinges. But don't rush to call a repairman—most problems can be fixed at home using common tools. You'll find precise recommendations and step-by-step instructions for troubleshooting any potential issues in this article.

Preparing for renovations

First, you need to prepare for the upcoming repair: diagnose the problem and gather the necessary tools and components. Experience shows that the first step isn't particularly difficult—a quick glance at the door is enough to determine the nature of the damage. One of three things can happen:

  • the glass is broken;
  • the lock is damaged/jammed;
  • The plastic support on the door hinge is broken.

Once the problem is identified, we begin searching for the necessary tools. First, we look for a screwdriver. For most machines, a flat bit is sufficient, but some imported washing machines require a star or shaped bit. Sometimes you can't do without special extension attachments that make it easier to access problem areas.For repairs you will need a screwdriver with a set of bits

Important! It is recommended to use magnetized extensions to hold screws while tightening.

To replace parts that have completely failed, alternative parts are purchased. To ensure proper dimensions, it's best to remove the old part and use it as a reference. Another option is to use the washing machine's serial number as a guide. In some cases, additional tools and consumables may be required. We'll explain in detail below what's needed and when.

Repair of the retainer

Most often, users encounter the need to repair the door lock. Chips and nicks on the lever prevent the latches from working properly. To fix the problem, the parts will need to be restored to their factory smoothness.

  1. We unscrew the hatch door from the body and place it on a flat surface.
  2. We take a file or a rasp with the finest cut.
  3. We insert the tool into the hole and grind down the existing burrs.

We act extremely carefully so as not to damage the washing machine.

  1. Apply graphite lubricant to the treated surface.
  2. Wipe off excess grease.
  3. We return the door to its place and secure it with the retaining bolts.repairing the latch and handle mechanism

This procedure is used when the door won't open and there's no way to remove the latch. Otherwise, remove the latch and trim it using a special vice. This will make the process faster and less risky for the machine and the door glass.

We are replacing the glass

If the glass is damaged, the repair will take longer and require additional tools and materials. For example, you'll need polyester or epoxy resin, as well as tape, film, and reinforcing tape. Ideally, the damaged glass is removed, but if this is not possible, we proceed according to the following algorithm:

  1. We carefully seal the front wall of the door with plastic film and tape.

Attention! There must be no gaps!

  1. We lay reinforcing tape on the damaged area.
  2. We dilute the resin according to specific instructions.
  3. Pour the prepared mixture onto the chipped area.
  4. We leave the door for 24 hours.

Once completely dry, remove the plastic film and sand down any drips or uneven spots. Now you can reinstall the hatch door, following the reverse procedure.

Restoring the support

The door support often fails, but it's also easy to repair yourself. First, remove the door from its hinges and dismantle the damaged part. Continue as follows:

  • we connect the broken parts together and fix them firmly in a vice;
  • take a nail with a diameter of 3-4 mm and shorten it to a length equal to the support;
  • we drill a through hole with a diameter of 2.8-3.8 mm in the combined hinges;
  • We clamp the nail in pliers and heat it over an open flame to a temperature of 180 degrees;
  • insert the hot rod into the drilled hole;
  • We quickly assemble the door (no longer than 3 minutes) and install it in place.we're repairing the loop

You can repair your washing machine door without the help of repairmen. It is enough to follow the instructions provided and act with extreme caution.But it's best not to delay repairs and follow the machine's operating instructions: don't pull the handle, load/unload the machine carefully, and don't allow hard objects to get into the drum.
