DIY Haier Washing Machine Repair

Haier washing machine repairModern washing machines simplify not only the washing process but also the routine maintenance of the machine itself. For this purpose, an encrypted message—the error code—is displayed on the electronic display. Knowing its meaning makes repairs easier and faster, as it's easy to figure out which component is faulty and which side to approach. Read this article to learn about the signals generated by the Haier system and how to fix the problem yourself.

Self-diagnostic system database

The Haier washing machine's self-diagnostic system database contains over ten error codes. These include minor issues with the door not locking properly, as well as dangerous warnings that pose a fire risk. A list of standard combinations will help you assess the extent of the problem:

  • ERR indicates that the machine is unable to start a cycle. The door may not be closed properly, or there may be a problem with the locking mechanism or the door locking device.
  • ERR indicates a lack of proper drainage for 4 minutes. This condition is caused by a faulty pump, clogged hoses, or pinched pipes.
  • ERR Water heating error. This occurs when communication with the temperature sensor is lost due to a defect in the thermostat itself or the wiring connected to it.
  • ERR: Another water heating error. The culprit here is a faulty heating element or damaged wiring between the heating element and the control module.
  • ERR: The drum did not fill with water within the specified 8 minutes, and the wash cycle cannot start. There are several possible causes: no water supply, low water pressure, a clogged inlet hose, or a faulty inlet valve, pressure switch, or pump.
  • ERR: The main control module has failed. More specifically, the wiring on the control board or the module's components is faulty.
  • ERR Extremely dangerous! Risk of fire! The culprit was a short circuit or other current leakage problems.
  • ERR: Water overflow detected. Pressure switch or the module's triac responsible for receiving signals from the sensor is faulty.
  • ERR: The permissible water volume in the tank has been exceeded. There has been a malfunction with the intake valve or control element.
  • UNB. Unbalance. The laundry is unevenly distributed across the drum walls, preventing the machine from continuing to wash.
  • EUAR. Indicates faulty electronics or damage to the wiring harness of the electrical unit.
  • NO SALT. There was a problem with the cleaning product: a reaction to the powder's composition, the detergent was detected to be out of stock, or the dispenser was clogged.

Once the general location of the failure has been determined, we can begin specific diagnostics and repair of the affected component. Find the relevant instructions below and begin fixing the problem.

The hatch stopped locking

the hatch doesn't lockIf the ERR1 error occurs, repairing your Haier washing machine yourself is easy. Simply close the door again or press it firmly against the body until you hear a distinctive click. It's also a good idea to check for any laundry caught in the cuff.

If the signal combination does not disappear, check the lock:

  • we open the door;
  • we inspect the latch tongue;
  • if it is displaced, we return it to its correct location;
  • Feel the hinges, if they are loose, tighten the fasteners.

The electronic lock may not work. Check the door locking mechanism with a multimeter. If there is no proper resistance, the locking mechanism will need to be replaced.

Water drainage is difficult or does not occur

It is not difficult to solve the drainage problem yourself. It is enough to check all existing hoses and pipes for blockages, inspect the pump impeller and clean the debris filter.This is done through the drain hatch located on the front panel in the lower right corner. Open the rectangular door with a screwdriver, drain the water into the prepared container, unscrew the filter, and remove any accumulated dirt. While you're at it, check the integrity of the tubes and the free rotation of the impeller.

The water stopped heating up

the water doesn't heat up because of the heating elementERR3 and ERR4 errors indicate a faulty heating element. Warning signs of a failing heating element include poorly washed stains and a musty smell in laundry. Confirming a faulty heating element is easy: place your palm on the door 20 minutes after starting the cycle. A cold surface will indicate that the water is not heating.

The final test is performed with a multimeter. Disconnect the circuit breaker, unscrew the back cover, and locate the heating element under the tank. Disconnect the wires, loosen the center nut, and remove the element. All that remains is to connect the meter's probes and read the results on the display.

The water does not fill the tank

A common error is the machine's inability to fill the tank with water to start a cycle. This can be caused by a faulty filling valve, pressure switch, control unit, or a clogged filter mesh. To resolve the issue, it's necessary to more accurately determine the source of the malfunction and perform a series of simple steps.

  1. If the detergent isn't flushed out of the dispenser, the inlet valve is at fault. A short circuit in the 220V power supply to the appliance will correct the problem, allowing water to flow into the tank. If there is no response to current, unscrew and replace the element.
  2. When the machine buzzes and takes a long time to fill, clean the mesh.
  3. The pressure switch is checked by blowing through the fitting with a tube of a suitable diameter.

electronic moduleIf the self-diagnosis fails, stop. Most likely, the corresponding resistors on the module have burned out and need to be replaced. This can only be done by a professional technician.

Electronic module failure

If the ERR6, ERR7, or EUAR error codes are detected, attempting to repair your washing machine yourself is prohibited. The most a novice can do is disconnect the power and restart the machine after 20 minutes. If the code persists, you'll need to call a service technician. A technician will come, remove the control module from your machine, and take it to a repair shop for diagnostics and repair. Unauthorized repairs to the module can lead to problems and increased repair costs.
