Zanussi Dishwasher Repair
Zanussi appliances have Italian roots. As for Zanussi dishwashers, the domestic market mostly features Chinese-made models. Therefore, quality isn't a concern, but neither are these dishwashers completely unreliable. All machines have flaws that lead to breakdowns and repairs. Therefore, we'll discuss common Zanussi dishwasher problems and explore how to troubleshoot and repair them yourself.
Causes of water leaks
One of the main problems that occurs with Zanussi dishwashers is water leakage. In car models equipped with the Aquastop protection system and display, the error code i30 appears. In some cases, there's no error, but water still leaks from under the machine. This may be caused by:
- tank crack;
- drain hose rupture;
- weakness of the connecting clamp;
- water supply valve stuck in the "open" position.
Replacing a dishwasher's tub is very difficult, so it's best to leave this job to a professional. You probably don't want to disassemble the entire dishwasher, cluttering your kitchen with parts.
Replacing the hose and clamps is a fairly manageable job. The hose can crack over time, causing holes to appear. To replace it, you need to:
- disconnect the dishwasher from the power supply;
- close the water supply tap;
- disconnect the drain hose from the water supply and from the machine;
- connect and securely fasten the new hose.
The water inlet valve is located just behind where the inlet hose enters the dishwasher. In the model pictured, it's at the bottom of the dishwasher, at the back. First, the electromagnetic valve is checked for functionality with an ohmmeter; if there is no resistance, it must be replaced with a new one.
No water drainage: troubleshooting
There are several possible causes of water remaining in a dishwasher. The first is severely clogged filters, preventing water from draining from the wash chamber into the water tank. This problem occurs not only in Zanussi dishwashers but also in other brands, and is caused by users neglecting the simple rule of removing food residue from dishes before loading them into the basket. In very rare cases, clogging can be caused by a foreign object getting into the filter and pump, such as a shard of glass from a broken glass inside the machine.
Please note: If your Zanussi dishwasher fails to drain, the error code i20 may appear on the display.
The second cause of this malfunction is more serious and is related to pump failure. The main symptom of a faulty pump is the absence of a characteristic noise. Therefore, if you listen carefully to the machine, you can determine whether the pump is broken or clogged, since even if it's clogged, the pump will still hum. Repairing a clogged machine comes down to completely cleaning it, which is not at all difficult to do yourself, We described this procedure in detail in the article How to clean a dishwasher yourself.
Replacing the pump in a Zanussi dishwasher can cost between $20 and $40, which can be quite expensive. Therefore, you can try replacing it yourself using instructions for replacing the pump using other dishwashers as an example, especially since their design is largely similar.
Changing the heating element
When a heating element fails, various symptoms may occur, so you need to pay close attention to them.
- If the heating element burns out completely, the water will stop heating, and at the end of the wash you will see unwashed and wet dishes.
- When the heating element contacts burn out, the water sometimes heats up, but the circuit breaker trips. Sometimes, an odor of insulation even appears. This is quite dangerous and can lead to a short circuit in the electrical wires inside the machine.
In both cases, the heating element will have to be completely replaced, since this part of the dishwasher cannot be repaired. Of course, the heating element contacts can be re-soldered, but such a repair cannot be called reliable and safe. To change the heating element you need to:
- unscrew the bottom panel of the case; in some models it can be removed without removing the side panels;

- Use a multimeter to check and make sure the heating element is faulty;
- remove the disposable clamps and disconnect the heating element;
- install a new heating element, original production.
Please note! This repair is considered moderately complex and can cost between $15 and $35, plus the cost of a Zanussi dishwasher heating element, which is another $30 to $45.
The control module has failed
A faulty dishwasher control module can also cause electrical circuit breakers to trip. Furthermore, if the control module isn't working properly, it can affect certain programs. The dishwasher may not dry properly or freeze during a program. In this situation, the following repairs are possible:
- "reflashing" the existing control module;
- installation of a new spare part.
You can reinstall the Zanussi dishwasher control module yourself. To do this, you need to disassemble the dishwasher door. Then, carefully remove the faulty board, disconnect all wires and sensors, and connect the new one. As for the firmware, only a specialist in electronics can handle this, so it is better to entrust such work to him; everyone should do their own thing. Repairs to replace the control module from different specialists cost between $25 and $40; the cost of the spare part is not included in this price.
So, if your Zanussi dishwasher malfunctions, don't panic and call a repairman. Sometimes you can fix it yourself. But if you're completely new to appliances or something seems beyond your capabilities, then of course, don't try to break the dishwasher. This will only make the repairman's job more difficult.
