Ariston dishwasher repair
A broken dishwasher can cause a storm of frustration, forcing homeowners to wash dishes by hand, albeit temporarily. The first solution that comes to mind is to call friends. Chances are, they've encountered a similar problem. Or you can search online for a solution. That's why we decided to write an article about how to repair Ariston dishwashers. We'll explore the most common faults, how to fix them, and when it's best to call a professional.
What breaks down most often?
Ariston dishwashers are similar in design and repair features to Bosch and Electrolux dishwashers. However, not all problems that occur with Bosch dishwashers are the same with Ariston dishwashers. While dishwasher parts are subject to wear and tear, the most common faults with Hotpoint Ariston dishwashers are:
- failure of the heating element, which can lead to poor dishwashing and blown electrical fuses;
- the water filling into the machine is very slow or absent, the cause of this is a clogged or broken inlet valve;
- water draining while continuously filling; this malfunction is also a consequence of a broken inlet valve or water level sensor;
- the dishwasher makes unusual noises and sounds, this indicates either a clogged rocker arm inside the machine’s tank or a faulty circulation pump;
- A water leak in the machine indicates a broken drain pump, a leaky hose, or a loose door;
- The lack of drainage also indicates a breakdown of the drain pump and clogged filters.
Important! Attempting to resolve any issue with a dishwasher under warranty on your own will void the warranty.
Changing the heating element
A faulty heating element in Ariston dishwashers most often manifests itself as an unpleasant odor. However, there may be no error message on the dishwasher's display, the water heats up to the desired temperature, the dishwasher operates normally, and dishes wash well. In fact, the appearance of the smell alone should be a warning sign for you of danger. After all, this is the smell of burnt wires; further melting of the insulation can lead to a short circuit and fire.
What should you do in this case? Let's describe each step in turn:
- First, the dishwasher must be disconnected from the electrical network, water, sewerage and pulled out for ease of use.
- Next, disassemble the walls, if there are any, if necessary, marking with a marker where the screws should be, this will help you avoid confusion during assembly.
- Under the soundproofing material on the right side of the Ariston dishwasher there are wires leading to the flow-through heating element; they need to be inspected for burnout.
- The heating element itself is located on the underside and looks similar to the photo. The terminals circled in red usually burn out. They can't be replaced separately, so the entire heating element must be replaced.

- After loosening the clamps, you need to remove the heating element and connect a new one in its place; this should not cause any difficulties.
Important! You'll need four new clamps to secure the new heating element, as the old ones cannot be reused. Replacing this element yourself will cost you approximately $30–$40.
- After installing the heating element, run the shortest wash cycle possible to check the tightness of the connections and the machine's operation.
- If everything is in order, then assemble the dishwasher and put it back in place.
Replacing the fill valve and pressure switch
If the inlet valve is faulty, the machine will either constantly fill with water and then immediately drain, or no water will enter the dishwasher at all. The contacts in the valve may burn out, the functionality of which is checked using a multimeter, or the valve may jam in the “open” or “closed” position. In either case, the valve will need to be replaced. This is not difficult to do.
The water inlet valve is located inside the dishwasher, just behind the inlet hose connection. Depending on your Hotpoint Ariston dishwasher model, you may need to remove the side panels and the back wall.
Please note: When filling and continuously draining water, Hotpoint Ariston dishwashers display error F5.
Constant filling and draining of water can also be caused by a faulty water level sensor. The pressure switch either fails due to prolonged use, or the sensor contacts become oxidized. If oxidation occurs, you can clean and renew the wires and terminals. If the sensor itself is faulty, the pressure switch must be replaced. You can judge for yourself how difficult this is by reading this article. Replacing the water level sensor in a dishwasher.
How to replace a circulation and drain pump
Before deciding to replace the circulation pump and the pump, it is necessary to check them and make sure that these elements are not faulty. It's possible that one of these units is working, but we're already bracing ourselves for a costly and tedious repair. How can I check the circulation pump and the pump in my Hotpoint Ariston dishwasher for problems?
- Disconnect the dishwasher from the power supply and disconnect the inlet and drain hoses.
- We lay out some rags somewhere in the free space in front of the dishwasher, and then we move the machine onto the rags so that we can lay it on the back wall.
- We unscrew the rear bottom panel of the Hotpoint Ariston machine, then place it on the back wall and unscrew the bottom.
Caution! When removing the dishwasher base, be careful not to tear the leak protection sensor wire.
- Now we have access to the components we're looking for. We take an ohmmeter, set it to the minimum value, and then connect the probes to the pump contacts, and then to the circulation pump.
- If the value on the ohmmeter display is around 1500, you don’t need to touch either the pump or the inlet manifold; most likely, the problem isn’t in them. but if the value is much lower, you will probably have to think about replacing these elements in the Hotpoint Ariston dishwasher.
Now that we've confirmed the pump isn't working, we'll replace it. First, disconnect all the wires and connectors from the pump and unscrew the drain hose. Remove the single screw that holds the pump to the pan. Get a new, identical drain pump, install a new rubber seal, and place the new pump in the old one's place. Screw on the drain hose, reinstall the connectors and wires.
If there is a need to replace the circulation pump, please refer to the detailed instructions provided in the article. How to Replace a Dishwasher Pump?
In conclusion, it's entirely possible to repair an Ariston dishwasher yourself, especially when dealing with the typical problems discussed in this article. Happy repairing!
