Siemens dishwasher repair
Siemens dishwashers are rightfully considered the most reliable. High-quality components and excellent European assembly speak for themselves. However, even these appliances require repair. Most Siemens dishwashers break down after 10 years or more, while others may break down after just a few months, but sooner or later, it happens. How to repair Siemens dishwashers, what typical problems these dishwashers experience, and whether it's possible to repair them yourself—we'll discuss these issues below.
Slow water intake and program freezing
According to service center specialists, Siemens dishwashers break down approximately half as often as most budget and mid-range dishwashers. However, Siemens dishwashers do have some weaknesses. The most common malfunction is characterized by extremely slow water intake and a periodic freezing of the wash cycle, regardless of the cycle selected.
After some time, if the Siemens dishwasher continues to operate, it will begin to display the E16 error code, at first occasionally, then more and more frequently. Eventually, the machine will freeze completely, displaying the E16 error code, and restarting it will not resolve the issue. What faults can cause these symptoms? Essentially, there's one cause: the flow-through filter located before the inlet valve.
Dishwashers Siemens European-assembled filters are designed for highly purified water with minimal impurities and suspended solids. Their flow-through filters have a mesh with very small cells, which quickly clogs when connected to a Russian water supply. To prevent the standard filter from becoming clogged with dirt, it is necessary to install another cleaning flow filter in front of it, and it is necessary to remove both filters and wash them every 6 months.
Important! Experienced mechanics, in addition to the additional filter, use another protective measure: they immediately replace the standard filter. Recently, the manufacturer began producing spare parts (including filters) specifically for Eastern Europe and Russia. These are the filters that experts recommend installing when installing a car yourself.
How can I restore normal water flow to my dishwasher and prevent the cycle from constantly freezing without professional help?
- We securely shut off the water flowing into the Siemens dishwasher.
- Pull the dishwasher out so that the inlet hose and connections are easily accessible. Be careful not to pull or pinch the hoses or power cord.
- We disconnect the hose together with the additional filter (if any) from the tee tap.
- We unscrew the hose from the other side of the dishwasher and unscrew the standard filter from there.
- Wipe the filter seat with a dry, clean, lint-free cloth.
- Pour citric acid into a small basin (100 g per 2 liters of water), add warm water and soak both filters in this solution for 2-3 hours, then rinse and clean the filters from dirt and install them in place along with the hose.
Reduced wash quality
Siemens dishwashers also often begin to perform worse after 1-1.5 years of use. The user adds the same amount of detergent to the dishwasher, loads the dishes in the same way, selects the same wash program, and generally does everything as normal, yet the cleaning performance continues to deteriorate. What causes this annoying symptom? Strictly speaking, there are several reasons:
- weak water pressure;
- the detergent supply valve does not work properly;
- The rotating rocker arm nozzles are clogged.
Weak water pressure occurs because the inlet valve flow filter is clogged.
We've already discussed how to clean it yourself in the previous section. So, let's move on to the second reason: the detergent dispenser valve isn't working properly.
The problem is this. Finish dishwasher powder or tablets are placed in a special compartment, from where they are gradually removed during the wash cycle. If this compartment is not cleaned and rinsed, the valve will eventually become difficult to open and close, and its holes will become clogged with dried residue from partially dissolved powder. As a result, the powder or tablet will dissolve less effectively during the wash cycle, which will only degrade the cleaning performance.
The problem is solved simply. You should make it a rule to wipe the detergent drawer with a clean, dry cloth after each dishwashing. and then this problem will never visit you again. It would also be a good idea to periodically use dishwasher cleaning products, which will prevent dirt from accumulating in the dishwasher and remove all unpleasant odors.
The same goes for clogged nozzles in the Siemens dishwasher's rocker arm. They need to be cleaned every 4-6 months, otherwise there won't be enough water pressure and the cleaning performance will be reduced. The nozzles can be cleaned with a regular toothpick. Push it into each hole in the rocker arm, then run the machine with a dishwasher cleaner.
Problems with wastewater disposal
We've covered problems associated with poor cleaning performance, now let's move on to wastewater disposal issues. Why might water drain poorly in Siemens dishwashers? There are two main causes: either a blockage somewhere in the drain line, or a faulty pump. We've covered cleaning clogs in dishwashers many times. This process is well described, for example, in the article Replacing and cleaning the dishwasher filter, we will not dwell on this point again.
In general, a dishwasher, like any other appliance, needs to be looked after; if this is not done, breakdowns are inevitable. A pump failure is a much more unpredictable situation. You can maintain your Siemens dishwasher well and still end up in this situation. How to Replace a Dishwasher Pump You can read about doing it yourself in the article of the same name; it's not too difficult. But first, you need to check the pump. Maybe it's not broken, but rather an electrical or electronic issue?
- We arm ourselves with an ohmmeter and remove the front bottom panel of the Siemens dishwasher.
- We disconnect the machine from the network and tilt it back a little (somewhere about 200).
- Now we can clearly see the pump, attached to the body of the circulation pump, we set the minimum value on the ohmmeter, and then install its probes on the pump contacts.
- We measure the value; if the figure is in the range of 1000-1500, everything is normal; if it is less, the pump is faulty.
Please note! A faulty pump doesn't necessarily remain silent while the dishwasher is running. It may hum but not actually pump water.
Problems with indicators, emergency shutdown
Another problem with modern Siemens dishwashers is a spontaneous emergency shutdown, preceded by flashing lights and audible signals. If the dishwasher is unplugged and then plugged back in, the problem persists, making it impossible to wash the dishes. What causes this problem?
Unfortunately, this problem is one that can't be fixed on your own. If your car is under warranty, experts recommend getting rid of it altogether. These symptoms indicate a faulty control module.
Repairing the control unit on Siemens devices is much more difficult, since the board is soldered by the manufacturer into a non-separable module. For this reason, only a few repairmen undertake to repair it; most refuse and suggest replacing the entire unit, which costs almost half the cost of a new dishwasher. If the machine is old, it's best not to repair it at all if it breaks this way, although the decision is yours.
In conclusion, Siemens dishwashers are extremely reliable; their malfunctions are largely due to improper operation by users. Therefore, if you take proper care of your dishwasher, it is likely to operate for many years without any problems.
