What program should I use to wash curtains in an LG washing machine?

Curtains not only serve a practical purpose in the home but also act as a decorative element. They are selected to complement the room, taking into account the wallpaper color, lighting, furniture, and so on. But maintaining a beautiful home requires sacrifice, and curtains need to be washed from time to time, as they accumulate grease and dirt, and the fabric absorbs odors. Let's figure out which washing machine cycle is best for curtains.

General rule

Curtains shouldn't be washed in hot water; the optimal washing temperature is no higher than 40 degrees Celsius. Choose a liquid detergent—something that dissolves well in cool water. Curtains are quite large and often quite heavy, so a program with as much water as possible, a sufficiently long cycle, and a gentle spin cycle is essential.

The "Delicate" and "Hand Wash" cycles on your LG washing machine are ideal for the above parameters. Almost all LG washing machines come with these programs. It's also recommended to adjust the spin cycle manually. Heavy curtains should be spun at a maximum speed of 800 rpm, while delicate fabrics should have the spin cycle turned off or limited to 400 rpm.

Curtains made of organza or artificial silk

Curtains made of genuine silk or rayon look very expensive and beautiful, but only with proper care. Washing, say, organza with regular loose laundry detergent will dull the fabric's shine and leave streaks and stains. It's best to use liquid detergents or gels.

What are the basic requirements for washing such fabrics?

• Cold water (temperature about 30 degrees).
• Use the most delicate program on your washing machine or wash by hand.
• Availability of additional rinse.
• It is better to wash curtains in a laundry bag or pillowcase to avoid damage.

After washing, organza can be hung immediately on a curtain rod, but tulle and silk should first be dried horizontally and thoroughly steamed with an iron.

Curtains made of linen or cotton

Cotton and linen are the least demanding natural fabrics, so they can withstand less delicate conditions. Cotton can be washed with any detergent, preferably at 40 degrees Celsius.

Please note: Linen fabric can be washed perfectly in water at 60 degrees Celsius. However, it is better to use liquid detergent.

In rare cases, cotton curtains may shrink, so if they are heavily soiled, it's best to hand wash them. Both linen and cotton curtains should be ironed while still slightly damp after washing.

Viscose or acrylic curtains

Acrylic and viscose are synthetic fabrics; they're very soft, delicate, and airy, but they require delicate and frequent care. As for taffeta, faux taffeta is machine washable, but natural taffeta is best dry cleaned. It's safe in hot water, but it's more resistant to spinning and the standard, "careless" cycle.

To wash such fabrics, it's best to use cool water (40°C), a delicate cycle, or hand wash with a special detergent for delicate and sensitive fabrics. Even hand-wringing these curtains is not recommended; you should wait until the water drains on its own or wring them out only through a sheet.

Curtains made of satin or nylon

As for satin fabric, it's visually very similar to silk, but remarkably, it retains almost all of its shape after washing and doesn't wrinkle at all. The threads used to make satin are smooth and extremely fine. To wash this fabric, you'll need:

• select manual mode;
• add washing powder;
• Before washing, soak the curtains with liquid stain remover or dishwashing detergent.

Nylon is much more of a hassle, as dust settles on it, and the curtains have to be washed much more often.

Important! First, clean the nylon by hand to remove dust, then soak it in a baking soda solution for about an hour and a half, then hand wash it with detergent and rinse thoroughly.

String or roller blinds

Curtains made from individual threads look very modern, expensive, and interesting. But the problem is how to clean them? You can't wipe each thread individually. To avoid tangling the threads, they are tied into a braid or simply tied with an elastic band and placed in a bag or pillowcase. Then the resulting braid is washed either by hand or in the washing machine on the shortest cycle, using the delicate cycle. You can gently squeeze the braid with your fingers, but in general, the threads can be hung on the curtain rod while still damp; they will dry naturally.

Roller blinds are dry-clean only. If there are stains, they can be removed with a regular, high-quality school eraser. For more serious stains, you can use wet wipes.

• Lightly dampen the dirty area with water, but do not let the material get too wet.
• After this, wipe the stain with a damp cloth without rubbing.

If the stains still persist, you'll need to take them to the dry cleaner. LG washing machines come with at least one, if not several, delicate cycles. As the saying goes, there's something for every taste and color. The main thing to remember is that curtains made of almost any fabric can be machine washed, but only with extreme care.
