Review of the Cotton Eco mode in the washing machine
When using a washing machine, it's crucial to know when to use a particular wash program. Navigating the icons and functions can be difficult at first, but mastery comes with experience. The Cotton Eco mode is one of the most frequently used modes in any washing machine, so it's important to know everything about it, which machines have it, and how it works.
In LG technology
Absolutely all washing machines from this Korean company are equipped with the Cotton Eco program. Interestingly, in addition to this mode, the washing machines also feature several other similar programs, but more on that later. First, let's look at how the machine implements the Cotton Eco program.
- The temperature is set automatically at 60 degrees Celsius. This is the upper limit. The user can optionally lower the water temperature to 40 degrees Celsius, 30 degrees Celsius, or even set the wash cycle to cold water.
- The wash time is also set by default and depends on several factors, such as whether the user has enabled the spin and extra rinse cycles and the temperature setting. The more additional functions are implemented and the higher the temperature, the longer the work process will take.
- In addition to the Cotton Eco mode, you can also activate a timer, pre-wash, time saving, and intensive mode.
- It is possible to deactivate the spin cycle if necessary.

In addition to the Cotton Eco mode, LG washing machines also offer Cotton, Cotton Rapid, and Mixed Fabrics programs. These programs differ little from each other. The only difference between these programs and Cotton Eco is that you can set the temperature up to 95 degrees Celsius (204 degrees Fahrenheit). As mentioned above, Cotton Eco washes at a maximum temperature of 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit).
For Bosch machines
This brand's washing machine offers even more cotton programs. However, navigating them can be challenging, as they differ only in the default wash temperature setting when each program is activated. There are five cotton wash modes:
- Cotton 30 degrees;
- Cotton 40 degrees;
- Cotton 60 degrees;
- Cotton Eco 60 degrees;
- Cotton 90 degrees.
It's time to clarify what the ubiquitous prefix Eco means. In this mode, the machine uses the least amount of energy, and water consumption is at a minimum. On average, this wash cycle uses 13 liters less water than a regular wash cycle. However, it's important to remember that Eco Wash isn't time-saving and is the longest of all Bosch washing machine programs. Without taking into account additional settings like prewash, the machine will take over 3 hours to complete a wash cycle in Eco Wash.
This is because the default mode includes several rinse cycles, so it is recommended for washing lightweight items and fabrics, as well as for washing clothes worn by allergy sufferers.
On Samsung washing machines
Samsung produces washing machines with various features, so the Cotton Eco program isn't available on every model. However, if it does exist, it has the following settings:
- Washing temperature from 40 to 60 degrees.
- The spin speed is not limited.
- The pre-wash function is included, but can be switched off if desired.
- The wash takes a little over 2 hours.

This program is generally used for washing various fabrics with medium to light soiling. You can wash bed linen, underwear, towels, tablecloths, blouses and shirts, etc. If you own a washing machine of another brand but see that your model also has a Cotton Eco mode, check the instructions. Manufacturers typically provide brief descriptions of each program there.
