Self-cleaning function on a Haier washing machine

Self-cleaning function on a Haier washing machineEvery user should remember that their washing machine requires proper maintenance. It's important to regularly clean the drainage system, the door seal, the detergent drawer, and the drum walls, and to ventilate the machine.

The self-cleaning mode on your washing machine is a great way to clean the inside of your machine thoroughly and effortlessly. Let's figure out how to activate this feature on your Haier washing machine. Will you need detergent? What should you do after the washing machine finishes its cycle?

We activate independent cleaning from dirt

Not all Haier washing machines have a dedicated self-cleaning mode. However, this isn't a problem if you understand how the program works. You can select a different algorithm and adjust the settings, but the results will be the same.

If your Haier washing machine has such a program, then to enable the drum cleaning function:

  • Plug the machine's power cord into a power outlet;
  • add detergent to the powder dispenser (in two compartments, for pre-wash and main wash);
  • make sure there is no laundry in the washing machine drum;
  • close the hatch door tightly;
  • Use the programmer to select the self-cleaning mode (or press the corresponding option button);
  • activate the cycle.Cleaning the drum in a Haier washing machine

The Haier washing machine will then begin its self-cleaning cycle. The program lasts just over two hours. At the end of the cycle, open the hatch of the “home helper” for ventilation and take out the powder container.

What if your Haier washing machine doesn't have a "Self-Clean" option? In this case, you can select the "Cotton" cycle, add "Pre-Wash," and set the water temperature to the maximum (90 degrees Celsius). This will produce a similar wash result.

You can replace the Self-Cleaning option with the standard Cotton mode by adding a pre-wash and setting the water heating temperature to the maximum.

The procedure is the same. First, plug in the machine and add detergent to the detergent dispenser. Next, select "Cotton" on the programmer, enable the "Prewash" option, and set the temperature to 90 degrees Celsius. There should be no laundry in the drum. After the cycle is complete, air out the washing machine.

If you haven't cleaned your Haier washing machine in a while, expect a large amount of dirt and limescale to be removed during this process. The next essential step is to clean the drain filter, as this is where limescale and other debris can become trapped.

Where to look for a filter?

Some Haier washing machine users have no idea what a dust filter is or where it's located. They're unaware of the need to clean it. In fact, it's crucial to periodically clean the dust filter and remove any accumulated dirt.

It is not enough to simply use the auto-cleaning program; it is also necessary to manually clean the elements of the drainage system: the debris filter, the pump, and the drain hose.

Cleaning the trash bin is not a difficult task; any housewife can handle it. The drain filter is located in the lower right corner of the washing machine. Haier, behind the technical hatch door. Getting to the element is very easy.Haier washing machine filter

Behind the service hatch is the drain filter plug and an emergency drain hose. The waste container is removed from the housing by twisting it. The visible part of the filter element has a convenient, easy-to-grasp ridge. Now you can begin removing the coil.

Cleaning procedure of the filter element

Don't immediately grab the drain plug and unscrew the waste filter. Water always remains in the drain system. Therefore, cover the floor around your Haier washing machine with dry cloths and place a shallow container near the waste filter.

To clean the debris filter of your Haier washing machine:

  • unplug the washing machine;
  • turn off the valve that supplies water to the system;
  • Move away any carpets lying near the machine (otherwise they will get dirty with dirty water);
  • Cover the floor around the washing machine with dry rags;
  • inspect the lower front part of the washing machine housing;
  • open the technical hatch door (either by prying it with your finger or a thin screwdriver);
  • Carefully unscrew the plug of the debris filter (be prepared for water to flow out of the system).

Unscrew the dust collector plug from right to left. First, turn it half a turn, then completely after the water has drained. If the filter is dirty, it may not come out of the hole. In this case, you can treat the element with WD-40, wait 15-20 minutes, and try again.Cleaning the Haier washing machine filter

Inspect the filter element. If it's only slightly dirty, simply remove any tangled threads or hair from the coil and rinse it in warm water. Avoid immersing the drain filter in very hot water, as this may cause the plastic to warp.

If the filter basket is coated with limescale, a more thorough cleaning will be required. Fill a small basin with about 5 liters of water and add about 50 grams of citric acid. Soak the filter in the solution for 5-6 hours. This will loosen the scale from the coil.

When cleaning, it's best to avoid using harsh household chemicals. There's no guarantee they won't corrode the plastic element. Citric acid is an ideal, proven option. Alternatively, you can use special detergents designed for the insides of washing machines.

While the filter is soaking, clean its "nest." Shine a flashlight into the hole and remove any accumulated debris. Wipe the walls with a damp cloth to remove any dirt deposits.Checking the impeller without disassembling the machine

Look even deeper – at the end of the hole, you can see the drain pump impeller. Hair, threads, and lint often get caught on its blades. Remove any debris with a long, thin stick.

After the allotted time, remove the drain filter from the basin and scrape off any remaining residue with a sponge or soft brush. Next, rinse the element in clean water. You don't have to wait for the filter to dry; you can replace it immediately. It's important to tighten the drain plug evenly, otherwise the machine will leak.

Now you need to ensure the system is sealed. To do this, run a short cycle, such as "Rinse." While the Haier washing machine is running, check for leaks in the debris filter area. If all is well, you can run a regular wash cycle.
