Wool cycle in the washing machine

Wool mode in the washing machineAlmost all modern washing machines have a Wool program. However, each manufacturer provides this program with specific factory settings, ranging from temperature to spin duration and intensity. To avoid damaging expensive wool items, it's important to check the settings on your specific machine before starting the cycle. A brief overview of the program, using top-end models from Bosch, LG, and Samsung, will help clarify the nuances of washing on the Wool program. Let's explore the similarities and differences.

Bosch WLK2426MOE

Almost all Bosch washing machines have a "Wool" program, and the WLK2426MOE is no exception. The wool program is activated by turning the six-position dial. The following cycle parameters are automatically set:

  • duration – 40 minutes;
  • spin speed – 800 rpm;
  • temperature – 40 degrees (you can also select “30” or “cold”).Wool mode on the Bosch WLK2426MOE

The drum rotates according to a special, delicate algorithm. First, water is poured into the drum, after which the items are slowly spun, absorbing the moisture. Then the movement stops, occasionally pausing for 1-2 full rotations. For most of the cycle, the clothes lie “quietly”, soaking and being cleaned with detergent.

The "Wool" program on Bosch offers water heating up to a maximum of 40 degrees.

At approximately 23 minutes, the drain cycle begins, and at 17 minutes, the first rinse cycle begins. The initial spin-stop cycle then repeats, after which the machine switches to spinning. The spun laundry is rinsed again, with rinse aid or fabric softener drawn from the detergent drawer. The washing machine then resumes its normal speed and dispenses clean, damp laundry.

LG F10B8QD1

The wool mode on the LG F10B8QD1 is virtually identical to the Bosch version, offering a new, improved algorithm. The program is activated by turning the dial to the third position, after which the default settings appear: water temperature up to 40°C, spin speed at 800 rpm, and wash duration at 60 minutes. The first two settings can be adjusted by reducing the heat to zero or 20, and the spin intensity can be set to 400 or turned off completely.Wool on the LG F10B8QD1

The cycle follows a standard pattern: water intake, wash, rinse, and spin. However, there are some noticeable deviations from the standard process:

  • water enters the drum in small portions;
  • the drum often stands still, allowing the items to soak and become saturated with detergent;
  • the drum scrolling is intermittent;
  • After spinning, the rinse is repeated with the rinse aid being removed from the tray.

The new algorithm is designed to be extremely gentle on wool, but don't expect high-quality cleaning results with this mode. There have been cases where some areas of the load remained dry before spinning. Therefore, consider reducing the load size or selecting a different program.

Samsung WF8590NMW9

In the Samsung WF8590NMW9 washing machine, the “wool” mode is labeled as “Hand wash wool”. The program is designed for cleaning knitted items only, and the weight of the loaded laundry should not exceed 2 kg. This is the third position from the right of the programmer, when activated the machine automatically adjusts the following parameters:

  • cycle duration – 39-50 minutes;
  • temperature – 30 or 40 degrees;
  • spin – 800 (can be reduced to “400” or “0”).Wool on the Samsung WF8590NMW9

When you press the "Start" button, the machine draws a small amount of water and periodically spins the drum half a turn. For most of the allotted time, the laundry soaks in the soapy water, slowly agitating.

The soapy water is then drained and the rinse cycle begins. After a couple of minutes, the liquid drains back into the drain, the rinse cycle is activated, and the items are rinsed again. The drum then accelerates to a final spin at 800 rpm, after which the system completes the cycle and releases the electronic door lock.
