The "Wool" function in the LG washing machine
Almost all modern washing machines offer a "Wool" program—a special mode designed for gentle washing of woolen and knitted items. Typically, this is a low-temperature cycle with minimal spin and gentle drum rotation. However, manufacturers often enhance the algorithm with special settings and parameters.
To avoid damaging your expensive knitwear, it's important to check the wool cycle specifications for your model in advance. Let's take a look at the features of the "Wool" cycle in your LG washing machine.
How does this algorithm work?
The wool cleaning mode functions approximately the same on all LG machines. To start the wash, turn the programmer to the “Wool” or “Wool/Hand Wash” position, and then press the “Start/Stop” button. The corresponding indicator will light up, and the display will show the main characteristics of the cycle:
- heating – 40 degrees;
- revolutions – 800;
- duration – 60 minutes.

The temperature in the "Wool" cycle cannot be increased; it can only be reduced to 30 or 20. You can also adjust the spin speed by setting it to 400 or 600 RPM. Ideally, it's best to skip the final spin altogether, ending the cycle at the rinse stage.
Woolen items are washed in cold water and with minimal drum rotation.
The cycle follows a standard sequence: water filling and heating, washing, rinsing, spinning, and draining. Several important features make the "Wool" cycle special:
- water is dosed by pouring into the tank in small portions;
- For more than half of the cycle, the drum is stationary, which allows the wool to become saturated with soap solution;
- the drum rotates softly, smoothly and intermittently;
- items are rinsed twice: before and after spinning;
- During the final rinse, conditioner is drawn from the dispenser.
A unique algorithm ensures gentle washing—knitwear is cleaned without shrinkage or stretching. However, it's important to understand that the delicate cycle isn't designed for effective stain or odor removal. Items are refreshed rather than washed. Sometimes, certain sections of a sweater or cardigan remain completely dry, especially if you load too many items into the drum.
LG's Arsenal of Machine Algorithms
The "Wool" program is one of 10-25 presets on LG washing machines. The machine also has other modes, also accessible with a couple of button presses. Selecting and activating a cycle is easy: all buttons are clearly labeled and marked. Simply select the appropriate setting.
- Cotton. While wool items require a delicate wash, heavy cotton items require hot water, a high spin cycle, and a 2-hour cycle. This is the only way to remove stains and odors from cotton.
- Quick Cotton. This is a simplified version of the previous program and is used for cotton fabrics with minimal soiling. Cleaning takes no more than 1-1.5 hours, and the water is heated to only 40-60 degrees Celsius.
- Quick 30. An accelerated cycle that lasts only 30 minutes. Heat is limited to 30-40 degrees Celsius, and the spin is set to maximum.
- Synthetic or everyday cleaning. Special mode for clothes made of synthetic materials: nylon, polyamide, polyester and acrylic. The temperature is set to 30-40 degrees Celsius, and the time is 70 minutes. These optimal settings ensure that items retain their color and shape.
The "Fast 30" mode lasts only half an hour!
- Delicate. Ideal for silk, lace, and satin. Gentle rotation, cold water, and a shortened cycle of 30 minutes.

- Down duvet. The name says it all: this program is designed for bulky items filled with down. The water temperature stops at 40 degrees, and the timer is set for 90 minutes.
- Baby clothes. Indispensable when washing children's clothes. The linen is washed in hot water for 1 hour and 40 minutes, then rinsed several times and thoroughly spun. The result is clean, soft diapers that are safe for babies from birth.

In addition to the basic modes, LG washing machines offer several unique features. These are typically rarely used, either due to ignorance or lack of practicality. However, when needed, they can ensure high-quality and safe removal of sensitive stains from fabrics.
- Bio-care. Designed to combat organic stains: wine, grass, blood, lipstick, and chocolate.
- This is a steam treatment. When the program is activated, the steam generator is activated, releasing hot, humidified air into the drum. The steam removes allergens and stains from the fibers, smoothes the fabric, and eliminates odors. The cycle lasts approximately 20 minutes.
- An accelerated wash cycle that takes just 59 minutes. Suitable for lightly soiled items, it's energy-efficient.
- Hypoallergenic. High temperatures and a thorough rinse remove dirt and detergent completely, preventing allergic reactions.

- Quiet operation. Often referred to as "Night Wash." The smooth rotation of the drum keeps the motor running quietly, making it ideal for running the machine at night.
- Sportswear. Includes items made of membrane, spandex, and lycra.
Each LG washing machine has separate spin, rinse, and dry modes. The user will also be pleased with the ability to reset or cancel a running cycle. The "Load Cycle" function is also useful in everyday life. It allows you to update the system with a new algorithm downloaded from a specialized website.
The discussion focused on the general functionality of LG washing machines. Individual models may offer additional features and options; a complete list of all functions and capacities can be found in the manufacturer's specifications for a specific machine.
