What cycle should I use to wash bed linen in my LG washing machine?
Washing bed linens is a common task for homeowners. Bedding is used daily in every family. Choosing the right washing cycle for your LG washing machine requires considering various factors. Let's explore which program to choose for cleaning your bedding.
We will select a program
What should you pay attention to when choosing a cleaning mode? When choosing a washing program for bed linen, it is recommended to focus on the type of fabric used for sewing, the color and the degree of contamination of the set. Light cotton items (satin, chintz, jacquard, calico) can be washed using the "Cotton" cycle (for more heavily soiled items) or "Cotton Quick" (for lightly soiled items).
If the bedding is made from the same natural fabrics but is colored, the cycle will be the same, but the water temperature should be adjusted to 40°C. 3D, 5D, and 7D linens are quite popular these days. How should they be washed properly to preserve the vibrant print? The programs remain the same: "Cotton" or "Quick Cotton." The only difference is that the water should be even cooler; the optimal temperature is 30°C.
The spin speed should not exceed 800 – 1000 revolutions per minute.
Silk or satin bedding should be washed using the "Delicate Wash" cycle. These delicate fabrics require special care. For synthetic linens, use the "Synthetics" cycle. It's best to avoid using synthetic bedding, as it can be harmful to your health.
Boiling at 95°C
Bedding made from natural fabrics (linen, cotton, etc.) can be cleaned using very hot water. Linens made from such materials can be boiled. Just a few years ago, the procedure for boiling bedding was as follows:
- the bottom of a large enamel saucepan was covered with white textile;
- a soap solution was prepared;
- deep stains on the fabric were first thoroughly “soaped out”;
- bedding was placed in a saucepan and filled with soapy water prepared in advance;
- The laundry boiled on the stove for an hour, requiring periodic stirring.
While previously boiling clothes was a rather labor-intensive process that left housewives feeling uneasy, today it's very easy to treat clothes with water heated to 95°C. In washing machines LG's Cotton mode allows you to increase the water heating temperature to 95°C. Therefore, select a program, use the buttons to adjust the temperature and spin speed, and then start the wash.
Before washing
Before loading any items into the washing machine, sort them into batches. If you're washing multiple sets at once, it's important to follow basic bedding care guidelines.
- The basic rule for washing any item is to sort items by color before loading them into the drum. White items must be washed separately from colored items. Otherwise, light-colored fabrics may become discolored.
- If you have linen and silk items to wash, you won't be able to wash them all in one load. It's important to separate items based on their fabric type. The cleaning cycles for linen and silk items will differ.
- Laundry detergent for children's items requires special care. That's why children's laundry is grouped separately from adult laundry.
- Be mindful of the weight of the laundry you load into the drum. Adhere to the machine's maximum load capacity. If you cram too many items into the washing machine, the machine simply won't work due to the excess weight. On average, a cotton set (sheet, duvet cover, and two pillowcases) weighs about 2 kg.
- Pillowcases and duvet covers must be turned inside out before loading into the drum.
- Before washing your bedding, carefully read the care label. The manufacturer's cleaning instructions must be strictly followed.

- Don't overfill the drum. Bedding sets are quite large, so if your washing machine has a small drum, wash one set of bedding at a time. Wash quality directly depends on how full the drum is. If too many items are crammed into the machine, the machine may not be able to deal with the dirt within the allotted washing time.
By following basic rules, it's impossible to ruin your bedding while washing. Proper sorting, loading the washing machine drum correctly, and collecting information about the type of fabric the bedding is made from will do the trick. Your bedding will be surprisingly clean and fresh when you remove it from the machine after washing.
Should I wash my underwear after purchasing it?
Do new, beautifully wrapped bedding need to be washed? Of course, no matter where you bought it (whether it was an expensive store or a market textile stall). Before being sold, the fabric is treated with special products that help it maintain its shape. Bedding, sitting on store shelves or in warehouses, collects dust.
Only purchased bedding sets must be cleaned before use.
When washing linens for the first time, it's best to set the water temperature to the highest possible temperature, based on the fabric type. This disinfection will remove any excess dye from the material. Incidentally, items washed in hot water may shrink slightly, which is normal. When choosing a washing cycle for bedding sets, be sure to check the fabric of the set. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for optimal washing parameters, including the appropriate temperature and spin speed.
