Washing modes and programs for the Ariston washing machine
Every Hotpoint Ariston automatic washing machine has a wide range of features. Understanding all the features of a household appliance can be challenging. Having a label on the control panel, along with a graphic symbol for each mode, makes things much easier. However, it's worth understanding the wash modes available from Ariston washing machine manufacturers.
What are the names of the modes and how are they designated?
In addition to graphic symbols, Ariston washing machine panels also feature numbers. Each wash cycle has its own number. The symbols are typically located not around the round dial, as on some models, but on the left side of the panel, beneath which is hidden the detergent and rinse aid dispenser. It is not always possible to understand the meaning of a particular symbol the first time, so in this situation you cannot do without instructions. Let's look at the numbering of the Ariston washing machine programs.
- Synthetic fabrics, washable at 60 degrees. Their designation resembles a fluffy dress.
- Synthetic fabrics that must be washed at 40 degrees.
- White items are indicated by a picture of a white T-shirt.
- Colored items. The mode's image is a circle on a T-shirt.
- Dark items are indicated by a black T-shirt.
- The shirts have a similar image to the name.
- Down items are presented in the form of a jacket with a hood.
- The "7 Days" linen program is for washing bed linen. The image resembles two different-sized towels hanging on a holder.
- The Rinse mode is indicated by a picture showing the outline of a basin with water pouring into it.
- Spin and drain. This program is symbolized by a circular spiral with drops of water underneath.
- The anti-allergy wash is indicated by a symbol in the form of a baby bottle and pacifier.
- The delicate wash cycle has an image of a basin of water with intricate lines above it.
- Wool. This mode is represented by a symbol depicting a triangular skein of wool.
- Mix 30 – a circle with the designation “30”.
- Standard cotton 60 is represented by a flag stating "60".
- Standard cotton 40 is marked with a flag with the word "40" written on it.
- Standard cotton 20 - T-shirt with the inscription "20".
On some Ariston models, the images may differ slightly from those described above, but overall, they are all similar. Now that we've understood the washing program symbols, it's time to move on to a detailed description.
Main programs
"Main programs" refers to a specific set of programs found in almost all automatic washing machines. The first is "Cotton." This program is available in three different water temperature settings:
- Heavy soiled cotton fabrics are washed at 60-90 degrees Celsius with a pre-wash. Spin at up to 1000 rpm;
- It is better to wash colored items at a temperature of 40-60 degrees;
- For delicate fabrics and not very dirty items, water at a temperature of 20-40 degrees is suitable.
The "Synthetics" mode also has several options. For heavy soiling, a temperature of 60 degrees is required, while for normal washing of synthetic materials, 40 degrees is sufficient.

For items that simply need a refresh, the quick "Mix 30" program is ideal. As the name suggests, the cycle lasts only 30 minutes. However, it's important to remember that it's not suitable for delicate fabrics, wool, or silk.
Some models also offer the “Mix 15” program, which accordingly washes 2 times faster.
Minor modes
The program selection of any modern washing machine is not limited to the list above. In addition, there is also a secondary set of modes that significantly facilitates washing clothes.
- Antibacterial washing is suitable for heavily soiled items. Both white and colored items can be washed, but the temperature will need to be adjusted. For colored items, the temperature should not exceed 60 degrees Celsius. White items should be washed within 2.5 hours, while bright colors require approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.
- Night washing is ideal for the dark hours of the day when everyone is asleep. The washing machine operates virtually silently. However, this type of wash takes over four hours.
- Children's clothes require special care. This program fills the drum with a large amount of water, thoroughly rinsing all clothes to remove detergent. The wash cycle lasts 110 minutes at a temperature no higher than 60 degrees Celsius.
- Wool should be washed in water no hotter than 40 degrees Celsius. A slow drum rotation and low spin speed are recommended for this type of garment.
- Silk requires delicate handling, so the water is heated to only 30 degrees Celsius. No spinning is performed at the end.
In addition to programs, there are also various functions that allow you to adjust the default settings depending on the materials loaded in the drum. These modes allow the user to select the most favorable and gentle washing conditions for each type of fabric.
Functional modes?
Every Ariston washing machine comes with a specific set of additional features. These include, for example, an extra rinse for thoroughly removing detergents and fabric softeners. This also includes a custom program, which allows the user to save any frequently used program or simply specific settings. This will allow you to save a significant amount of time when starting the wash cycle.
The extra spin cycle has several settings. It lasts on average 10-15 minutes. Draining is a rarely used function. However, it's useful when the wash cycle is complete and the machine hasn't drained all the water from the drum.
Using the features discussed above can significantly simplify some aspects of washing clothes. The key is to remember their availability and utilize them promptly.
What is the meaning of pictures without captions?
Some automatic washing machines don't have any mode labels on the control panel. They must be identified only by a picture. Therefore, it's important to immediately understand what each symbol means:
- square basket with cotton balls – washing items made of cotton materials;
- chemical flask - synthetic;
- flower - things that require delicate handling;
- tree – economy mode;
- iron – light ironing;
- basin and arm contour – hand wash;
- a skein of woolen threads – washing woolen items;
- trousers – jeans;
- basin with water outline marking – pre-wash;
- basin and curved line – rinsing;
- basin and arrow – draining water after the cycle;
- twisted spiral – spin;
- moon and stars – silent wash;
- clock - fast mode.

Setting up the machine before washing
Before using your automatic washing machine, you should carefully read the instructions. But on most models, everything is marked so clearly that you can set everything up intuitively. On the control panel there is a control knob for selecting the desired program, and then you can set additional parameters.
Before starting a wash cycle, read the care labels on your clothes. They tell you how to properly wash each item. Choosing the wrong temperature or cycle will damage the fabric.
Particular attention should be paid to temperature and recommended chemicals.
If the user is familiar with the modes, they will be able to quickly select a washing program and the process will be most efficient. However, pointless button pressing will damage not only the clothes but also the washing machine.
