Bosch dishwasher modes
Bosch dishwashers have always enjoyed great popularity in the Russian market due to their excellent quality, attractive design, and advanced functionality. This latter feature deserves special attention, as Bosch dishwashers offer numerous modes that aren't always intuitive. To make using your new "home helper" easier, we've compiled a detailed guide to the operating cycles of modern Bosch dishwashers.
The most powerful mode
The most effective mode is considered to be the intensive wash program, which is designed for large, heavily soiled dishes – frying pans, pots, saucepans, baking sheets, etc. The washing procedure in this work cycle consists of pre-soaking, washing, normal rinsing, rinsing in very hot water and drying.
After activating the most powerful mode, you can additionally enable auxiliary options, but this will increase the duration of the work cycle.
On average, the intensive wash cycle takes 120 to 180 minutes. The water temperature in this program reaches 70 degrees Celsius.
Default mode
If you turn on your Bosch dishwasher and immediately begin washing without changing any settings, the automatic mode will be activated. Manufacturers created this mode to simplify the use of the appliance, so even a novice can quickly wash dishes without wasting time reading instructions. In this program, the "assistant" automatically determines the washing mode based on the degree of soiling of the dishes. It doesn't matter what kind of dishes, large or small, are loaded into the wash chamber.
During operation, the machine exerts considerable pressure on dishes, so experts do not recommend washing delicate items that require gentle care during this cycle. Furthermore, the automatic mode is not suitable for washing large, grease-covered cookware, such as pans and baking sheets. Therefore, the default mode is more suitable for regular plates, forks, spoons, and other items that need to be washed every day.
Eco-friendly algorithm
This program was created to conserve the Earth's limited resources and help users save water and electricity to reduce their utility bills. The ECO mode first pre-rinses the dishes, then starts washing, then moves on to rinsing off the detergent, and then completes the cycle by drying.
The cycle is energy-efficient, averaging approximately 10 liters of water and only 0.97 kilowatts per hour. Water is heated to 50 degrees Celsius, and the cycle lasts approximately 120 minutes, or 80 minutes with the Vario Speed function activated.
60-minute wash
This relatively quick cycle cleans almost all types of dishes in just one hour. The only thing it's not suitable for is cleaning fragile items. The steps are the same as the intensive wash cycle, but the water gets even hotter to clean everything in just 60 minutes.
Moreover, the "home helper" can run for over an hour in active mode if the housewife chooses to use additional options. Even so, the wash cycle won't exceed 90 minutes, remaining a short yet effective one.
The shortest cycle
This program was created specifically for those who need to clean dishes quickly. It includes washing, an intermediate rinse, and then a main rinse. This program is suitable for dishes that have been recently used and are not too heavily soiled.
The water temperature is only 45 degrees Celsius, and there's no drying function to save time. The cycle time varies depending on the Bosch dishwasher model and can take between 30 and 60 minutes.
Delayed washing
Home appliance makers also included additional features that help customize the dishwasher to your needs. For example, the delayed wash function allows you to load dishes into the wash chamber and delay the start of the cycle for 1 to 24 hours.
This mode is especially useful for those who bill their electricity separately depending on the time of day. This feature will also be useful for owners of a smart home system.
Night program
This mode works perfectly with the timer function, as it can significantly reduce utility bills. In this cycle, the water is heated to 50 degrees Celsius, and the wash cycle lasts up to 240 minutes.
This is the longest cycle of any Bosch dishwasher. At the same time, the intensity of the dishwasher's noisiest components is reduced, resulting in significantly less noise, preventing disruption to sleep.
Self-cleaning and half load
Let's look at two more useful options for any housewife. The first is a self-cleaning mode. It helps you care for your "housekeeper." When running this program, make sure there are no dishes in the washing chamber and that a special detergent or citric acid is loaded into the household chemical dispenser. The cycle will help clean the internal components of the dishwasher from harmful bacteria and various contaminants.
The half-load mode is a great help when you don't have a lot of dirty dishes but need to wash them now, without waiting for a full cycle. This program also helps save water and electricity, and it reduces the overall wash time. This cycle is also ideal for situations where dirty dishes are only loaded into one basket.
What happens inside a dishwasher?
Understanding household appliances is much easier if you thoroughly understand how they work. The process of washing dirty dishes isn't much different from washing them by hand.
- The standard program consists of washing, rinsing, and drying, plus, if the user wishes, a pre-soak can be added to this list.
- Each individual wash cycle takes a fixed amount of time, which is usually affected by water temperature. Therefore, the higher the water temperature, the longer the cycle takes.
- Typically, washing dishes takes between 15 and 35 minutes, with the rest of the time spent filling with water, heating the liquid in the washing chamber, rinsing, drying, and draining the used liquid.
- Don't discount the importance of rinsing, as this stage of the cycle helps completely remove residues of hazardous household chemicals from dishes. Without rinsing, detergents will ingest into the user's body, potentially causing serious health problems.

- Rinsing typically lasts about 25 minutes, but you can increase its duration and effectiveness by activating the extra rinse function, which will extend the process by about 20 minutes.
- The final stage is usually drying, where hot air jets are directed at the dishes for 15-20 minutes. This option is available in every Bosch dishwasher, but it is disabled on the accelerated wash cycles.
Complex work cycles with additional functions may differ slightly from the specified algorithm, but the common classic modes work exactly like this.
Select the desired mode
Modern "home assistants" offer dozens of programs suitable for a wide variety of situations, depending on how dirty the dishes are, their quantity, operating speed, resource consumption, and more. Automatic mode or defining washing goals will help speed up the selection of a cycle.
If your dirty dishes are covered in burnt-on grease, food residue, carbon deposits, or dried-on spots, you'll need to activate the intensive mode. If the dishes aren't very dirty, choose the quick modes, and if you just need to freshen them up, the eco-friendly program will do the trick.
Don't forget to use the delayed start function to save resources and avoid disturbing your family during the day.
Always try to select the correct cycle, as this directly affects the cleaning efficiency and lifespan of your Bosch dishwasher. Additional information on selecting a program can be found in the official user manual.
