Self-cleaning program for Gorenje washing machines
The software inside Gorenje automatic washing machines is exceptional. They contain numerous modes and functions that can be used to care for not only your clothes but also the appliance itself. The self-cleaning program helps keep the machine's internals in tip-top shape. Let's explore how to use this feature and what other modes and options are included in the washing machine's memory.
"Self-cleaning" mode
It's no secret that washing machines require constant maintenance. Housewives should remember to ventilate the unit after each use and wipe away dust and moisture from the casing. To help users, the manufacturer has created a special mode. The self-cleaning program runs once a month, with an empty drum, but using detergents.
Machine manufacturer Gorenje recommends running the “self-cleaning” mode once a month.
To enable self-cleaning mode, you must:
- remove all unnecessary items from the drum – there should be no items left in it;

- pour powder into the detergent drawer (into the main wash compartment);
- turn the programmer to the “Cotton 95°C” position;
- press the “Self-cleaning” button and hold it for 5 seconds;
- start the cycle by pressing the "Start" button.
After this, your "home assistant" will begin self-cleaning. The program lasts a little over an hour and a half. When the cycle is complete, remove the detergent drawer completely and open the door to air the machine. Allow the inside of the machine to dry.
Normal modes
The functionality of Gorenje washing machines varies depending on the model. Standard programs are available on all machines. A brief description of the washing options and modes is provided in the equipment instructions.
It's important to choose the right washing cycle based on the type of fabric and how dirty the laundry is. To avoid damaging your laundry, it's important to understand which cycles are suitable for which items.
- Cotton. The name says it all: this cycle is designed for cleaning cotton clothing, linen, bedding, and towels. The wash temperature can be adjusted from 20°C to 95°C. When selecting the program, a full load is allowed.
- Mix/Synthetics. This program is suitable for items made from synthetic and blended fabrics. Ideal for colored items. The wash temperature can be adjusted to 60°C, and the drum should be half full. For example, a 6 kg machine can accommodate a maximum of 3 kg of clothing.

- Hand wash. The delicate program is designed for cleaning delicate, sensitive fabrics. This cycle is suitable for linen, wool, silk, viscose, and curtains. The gentle rotation of the drum prevents items from becoming misshapen. The cycle temperature is adjustable from 20°C to 40°C. The full-size machine can hold 2-3 kg of laundry, while the slim machine can hold a maximum of 1.5 kg.
- Wool. Another gentle cycle for wool items and items made from wool blends and other fibers. Suitable for washing sweaters, snoods, and hats. Water is heated to a maximum of 40°C, and the spin cycle is minimal. Full-size washing machines can accommodate up to 2 kg of laundry when selecting this cycle, while slim-size machines can accommodate up to 1 kg.
In addition to standard programs, Gorenje washing machines offer additional modes for special occasions, such as when you need to refresh items quickly or treat fabrics against allergens.
Special programs
Depending on the situation, standard cleaning modes may not be suitable. That's why Gorenje washing machines have additional washing programs for special situations. Let's explore their purpose.
- Quick Wash 17. This program refreshes your laundry in just 17 minutes. Suitable for lightly soiled items, it helps save both time and energy. Water is heated to 30°C, and the drum should be partially loaded. For full-size machines, the load weight is 2 kg; for slimline machines, the load weight is 1.5 kg.
- Super Black. This wash cycle preserves the brightness of black items. It features a slow spin cycle and gentle drum rotation. The water temperature is 30°C. The machine can be loaded with a maximum of 2-2.5 kg of clothing.
- Quiet washing. You can even run the program overnight. Suitable for cleaning mixed fabrics of various colors. Water temperature reaches 40°C. Maximum load: 3.5 kg for full-size machines, up to 3 kg for slimline machines.
- Anti-dust mite. This cycle is ideal for washing pillows, blankets, and other bedding, as well as bulky items. It helps remove dead skin residue from fabric fibers. The water temperature can be adjusted from 60°C to 95°C. Load capacity: no more than 3.5 kg for standard machines, and up to 3 kg for narrow machines.

- Children's clothing. Suitable for the care of babies and those with allergies. This program features multiple rinse cycles. Water temperature can be adjusted from 40 to 95°C. Full loads, as specified by the manufacturer, are permitted.
- Sports. Designed for washing sportswear made from various fabrics, including cotton, synthetics, and microfibers. Spinning is performed at minimum speed, with water heated to 30°C. Maximum drum load: 2.5 kg for standard-size machines, 2 kg for narrow-size machines.
- Anti-allergy. This program is designed specifically for washing laundry that requires special care. High-temperature treatment (up to 95°C) removes all germs from the fabric, and multiple rinse cycles help remove detergent from the fibers. The drum's maximum load capacity is the same as the maximum load capacity.
Almost all Gorenje washing machine modes can be adjusted by changing the water heating temperature, spin intensity, and the number of rinse cycles.
Understanding the features of each program helps ensure high-quality washing results. You can check the duration of each program on the machine's display (by selecting the desired function) or in the instructions.
Auxiliary modes
In addition to the programs described above, Gorenje washing machines have additional, independent options. These modes can be used when a full cycle is not necessary, or when a supplement to the main wash is needed.
- Intensive Soak. When you select this option, soapy water is directed at the laundry from both below and above. This allows the fabric to soak faster.
- Pre-wash. Necessary when there are stubborn stains on clothes.
- Water Plus. Allows you to add multiple rinse cycles.
- Softening. This function not only softens but also starches and impregnates items. The cycle ends with a spin cycle, and the "Water Plus" option can be activated.
Some Gorenje models offer the option to create custom programs.
You can program your own washing settings into the intelligent system. Custom modes can be adjusted as needed.
Special SensoCare algorithm
Models released after 2017 are equipped with SensoCare technology. This feature optimizes basic programs like Cotton, Wool, and others. These features include:
- NormalCare. This mode selects the optimal combination of four washing parameters: temperature, water volume, time, and spin speed. This ensures the best cleaning results for all fabric types.

- EcoCare. This mode focuses on energy efficiency. By activating this mode, you can reduce your washing machine's consumption by up to 60%.
- TimeCare. Suitable for washing items quickly. This option reduces cycle time by 40%. Intensive washing is only effective for lightly soiled items. This program uses more water.
- AllergyCare. Multiple rinse cycles and increased water consumption completely remove detergent residue from fabric fibers. This option makes laundry detergent allergies a thing of the past.
The software in Gorenje machines not only helps homeowners wash laundry efficiently but also minimizes the hassle of maintaining the machine itself. By activating the "Self-Cleaning" feature regularly, you can forget about unpleasant odors from the machine and dirt buildup on the internal components.

Hello. I'm doing the self-cleaning cycle according to the instructions. I'm turning everything on correctly. But when I hold the self-cleaning button, I just get a beeping sound and the display doesn't show "Cin," but just the wash time.
