The washing machine's programs are malfunctioning – we fix it ourselves

Favorite programs you've become accustomed to and frequently use either simply don't work, or they do work but don't work correctly. The machine switches between them or simply doesn't complete the cycle. This article will discuss the causes of such problems and how to fix them.
Preliminary actions
What should you do if your favorite washing machine cycle has stopped working? First of all, don't panic, run out and call a repairman, or even worse, try to disassemble the washing machine. There are many user-friendly methods for troubleshooting such problems, and while they may not work, they're worth a try. Here are some.
- Resetting the washing machine using the on/off button, as well as by disconnecting the power cord.
- Starting the washing machine in test mode.
- Starting self-diagnosis of the washing machine.
When setting and starting a specific washing program, an error may occur. If the program fails during the rinse/spin stage, even though the wash cycle completed normally, you should clean the washing machine's drain filter. What should you do?

- Under the bar we find a large drain filter plug.
- Place a large cloth under the machine, then open the plug and drain all the water from the hole.

If the control unit test is inconclusive, you'll need to check the wiring to all the washing machine's components and sensors, paying particular attention to the pressure switch (water level sensor), drain valves, and fill valves. When checking, pay attention to any unusual findings:
- burnt contacts;
- frayed or heavily twisted wires;
- poorly secured and loose terminals;
- unscrewed sensor fasteners;
- traces of mechanical damage to sensors;
- melting of the body of the board parts, etc.
Any suspicious parts or wires should be checked more thoroughly and replaced. If these steps don't work, the problem is most likely with one of the washing machine's components. This could lead to very expensive repairs.
Problems with the main units of the machine
Quite often, a washing program failure is caused by a faulty heating element. The system detects that the water in the drum cannot be heated to the required temperature and therefore does not start the washing program. In this case, the washing machine display should display an appropriate error code, but this does not always happen, resulting in a program failure. The problem can be resolved by checking and replacing the heating element.
Important! If you discover a significant layer of scale on the heating element when removing it, it's best to replace it with a new one.
In some cases, a faulty electric motor can cause a wash cycle to malfunction. It's best to have it disassembled and inspected by a professional. In many cases, the engine can be repaired without replacing this part. You should also check the drain pump with a multimeter. Sometimes the unit itself is working, but poor contact with the sensor causes intermittent malfunctions, which are reflected in the control unit. Replacing the contacts or the drain pump sensor solves the problem.
To summarize, if your washing machine switches between programs or doesn't cycle, it could indicate a serious malfunction in one of its components. If a reboot or self-test doesn't resolve the issue, you'll need to disassemble the machine and, starting with the control unit, inspect all electrical components until you find the root cause.
