Resetting errors on a Bosch dishwasher

Various error codes in dishwashers can occur not only due to malfunctions but also after a one-time failure. Resetting the error code on a Bosch dishwasher is important when the problem has been fixed, or you're certain that a one-time failure is the culprit. If the cause of the error is unknown, resetting the error code is strictly prohibited, as it can seriously damage the appliance. We'll explain in detail how to reset errors on your dishwasher.

Why is it necessary to reset the code?

Automatic diagnostic systems in dishwashers are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Users often believe that the appliance is capable of not only diagnosing and displaying an error code, but also disabling it once the problem is resolved. Unfortunately, even after replacing the faulty part, the machine often doesn't immediately recognize that the problem has been resolved, requiring a reset. This is why the error will continue to display, preventing normal operation of the dishwasher, until the user manually resets it. This situation is most often caused by the following issues:

• one-time failure of the dishwasher control board;
• error of the current work cycle and its subsequent stop;
• clogged waste filters or hoses;
• Incorrectly installed water or drain hose;
• interruptions in the water supply to the machine;
• leak;
• blockage in the sewer.

It's common for a dishwasher user to be confident they've correctly identified and corrected the problem, but then be confused as to why the error persists. Misdiagnosing and localizing the problem can be very easy, given the vast number of possible causes. Therefore, you should never attempt to reset the error unless you're absolutely certain the root cause has been corrected. If there's even the slightest doubt, it's best to call a service technician for a thorough diagnosis and repair.

The usual way to reset the code

If your Bosch dishwasher has stopped washing and displayed an error message, open the door of the washing chamber slightly and leave the appliance there for a few minutes. Then, without turning off the equipment, you need to hold down the first two keys to the left of the display for three seconds - these two buttons will launch the service mode.

The buttons may have different functions depending on the dishwasher model, but pressing them simultaneously will launch the Bosch service mode.

If you have a less modern dishwasher, such as the Bosch SHU43E/53E/66E, the service function is activated differently. With the dishwasher turned off, first turn the program selector to the six o'clock position, then hold down the Start/Stop button, and turn on your "home assistant" with the power button.

If you have a modern Bosch appliance, you can reset errors stored in the appliance's memory by pressing the first and third buttons to the left of the display. Press and hold these buttons for three seconds, after which the dishwasher will reset the error code.

SHU43E/53E/66E dishwashers are even easier to maintain. First, enter service mode, then press and hold the "Start/Stop" button for about three seconds to clear the error.

Resetting when the PMM is completely de-energized

Finally, we'll look at an unreliable method for resetting dishwasher errors, which can damage the dishwasher's control board. Because of this, it should only be used in situations where nothing else helps. To reset the error in this way, you need to simultaneously press the power button and unplug the power cord from the network.

Call someone for help if the outlet is far from the dishwasher, making it difficult for you to perform the steps described at the same time.

The idea is that when the "home assistant" is turned off, you press the power button, wait for the beep, and immediately unplug the appliance. This is helpful because immediately after activating the dishwasher, the control unit runs an instant test of all key system components, which takes just a few seconds.

If you unplug the dishwasher at this point, all stored error codes will also be reset. It's important to remember that this doesn't always help, as it's crucial to simultaneously power the appliance on and off for the error code to clear.
