How to drain water from a Zanussi washing machine?
No one is immune to a sudden machine freeze during a wash cycle. The washing machine may stop with a full tank and stop responding to user commands. The laundry will not only remain unwashed but also inaccessible – in the water and in the closed drum. This behavior is no cause for panic: simply drain the water from your Zanussi washing machine and try to fix the problem. We'll explain in more detail what to do.
Let's use the "dumper"
If your washing machine breaks down while the cycle is running, it will stop suddenly and with the drum full. The first step is to drain the water from the machine. The best way to do this is with hardware – turn on the appropriate program and wait for it to complete. But more often, the Zanussi freezes and doesn't respond to button presses. In this case, a forced flush will help.
We're talking about the "drainer"—the hose or plug for the emergency drain. This component is located behind a false panel in the lower right corner of the housing. Simply pry the access door open with a screwdriver, release the latches, and locate the red or orange cord next to the debris filter. Next, follow these steps:
- tilt the machine back, leaning it against the wall;
- place a basin or other container under the hose to collect water;
- we cover the surrounding space with rags;
- We pull the plug, starting the emergency drain.
Please read your Zanussi instructions – they will describe all the safe ways to empty the tank.
Most likely, one basin won't be enough. In this case, the hose is returned to the closed position, the container is tipped over, placed under the filter, and the process begins again. This process continues until the drum is completely empty.
This emergency drain option is recommended by manufacturers as the most proven and safest for the machine. It's important to ensure that the Zanussi machine doesn't stop with a full tank because the drainage system is clogged. In this case, the water simply won't leave the drum.
Drain hose
A forced emergency flush can be easily and quickly implemented using a drain hose. Simply disconnect the hose from the drain pipe, drain line, or trap and place it on the floor so that it's below the bottom of the tank. Place the free end of the hose in a container, and water will flow automatically from the machine.
Draining through a hose is considered safe and easy, but it doesn't work on all washing machines. Many modern Zanussi models include a special check valve or loop in the drainage system to prevent water from draining out of the drum. In this case, you'll have to choose alternative methods for emptying the drum.
Through a lint filter
A third, relatively safer option for emergency draining is to unscrew the waste filter. This is a spiral-shaped plastic attachment that protects the pump, volute, and impeller from debris that has fallen into the machine. Dirty water from the drum always passes through the "waste filter" on its way to the sewer, and any hair and threads floating in it are collected there. To empty your Zanussi through the waste filter, follow these steps:
- disconnect the washing machine from the power supply and water supply;
- pry up the door of the technical hatch, disconnect it from the body and expose the “trash can” - a black round plug;
- cover the area around with rags and oilcloth;
- tilt the washing machine forward, placing a block or basin behind it;
- place a container under the cork;
- Carefully unscrew the dust attachment and collect the water.
After a high-temperature cycle, do not drain the water immediately through the filter – you could get scalded by boiling water!
There is no need to pull the nozzle out of the housing abruptly – the stream will be too strong. It is better to gradually unscrew the filter, adjusting it to the water flow. After draining, do not rush to reinsert the coil: it is recommended to first clean the plastic part and its seat.
