Which is better: LG or Hotpoint Ariston washing machine?

Which is better: an LG or a Hotpoint Ariston washing machine?When planning a new home appliance purchase, people read numerous reviews, ask friends, and compare the most popular models. All in the hopes of purchasing a reliable washing machine with a long service life, extensive features, and a low price. The dilemma of choice often leads consumers to two of the most well-known and trusted manufacturers: Hotpoint Ariston and LG. We suggest comparing the brands by price, capacity, and other parameters to finally decide which is better: an LG or a Hotpoint Ariston washing machine.

A review comparison of the two brands' equipment

Where do we begin our comparison, given that we don't yet know the models or technical specifications of the washing machines? It's simple: just define your own evaluation criteria, then head to Yandex.Market and see which machines win. Let's be clear: our opinion is subjective and shouldn't be taken as the only correct one. So, let's get started.

  • Price. If you compare LG washing machines with Hotpoint Ariston machines by price, the latter wins. Why? It's very difficult to find an LG washing machine in a store that costs less than $200. Currently, there's only one model available—the LG FH-0C3ND. Ariston, on the other hand, offers a couple dozen machines priced under $200. These include the VMUF 501 B, VMSG 601 B, VMSL 501B, and VMSG 702 B. In this regard, the LG falls short.

LG washing machines start at $200, while Hotpoint Ariston also offers budget models for $120–$150.

  • Maximum load capacity. Washing large quantities of items, bulky clothing, down jackets, blankets, and throws requires a spacious drum. Hotpoint Ariston's current offerings show a maximum load capacity of 9 kg. While this isn't a bad result, it's a far cry from LG's, as the company produces machines capable of washing 12 kg or more in a single cycle.
  • Maximum spin speed. Of course, a normal housewife wouldn't use the highest spin speed every day. But sometimes you want to spin clothes at 1400-1600 rpm to speed up the drying process. Among Russian-made Hotpoint models, there are few "high-speed" models: only a few can operate at 1400 rpm, and none can reach 1600 rpm. LG's situation is better, as most machines accelerate to 1400 rpm, while the LG FH-6G1BCH6N and LG LSWD100 spin at 1600 rpm.LG FH-6G1BCH6N Hotpoint Ariston VMSL 501B
  • Direct drive. Anyone who's had to replace drive belts or brushes on a commutator motor a couple of times will understand the charm of an inverter. It truly lasts longer without intervention and saves owners money. Many LG washing machines are equipped with inverter motors. Ariston models with inverter motors are rare in Russia.
  • Noise level. Hotpoint washing machines excel here. Some of their models produce an average noise level of 64 dB during spinning, such as the RST 702 X. LG machines can't even dream of such levels. The quietest ones produce 71-76 dB, even though direct-drive machines should be quiet.
  • Water consumption per cycle. A very important parameter, as water prices are rising quite rapidly. In this case, it was impossible to determine a clear winner: both Ariston and LG have energy-efficient models that consume around 40 liters of water per wash. In today's environment, these figures are considered good. Examples include the LG F-1096SD3 and the Hotpoint-Ariston WMTL 501 L.

Who won this confrontation? Machines win by a small margin LG, but with the caveat that the technical parameters of the machine are more important to the buyer. If you're only looking at price, there's no alternative but to choose Hotpoint-Ariston.

Other parameters influencing the choice

Don't rush into a final decision. Drum capacity, spin speed, price, and noise level are important, but far from decisive. It's better to conduct a more in-depth analysis, considering all possible capacities and features. We'll explain in detail below what to look for and how to compare.

The first thing buyers are interested in is the model's dimensions and capacity. In addition to reliable and popular narrow-size machines, there are also full-size units. These machines differ in many ways:

  • Narrow models typically hold 4 to 6 kg of dry laundry, making them a better choice for a family of 3 to 4 people. The height of these machines ranges from 85 to 90 cm, the depth is 32 to 45 cm, and the width does not exceed 60 cm. In terms of available features, power, and mode selection, compact machines are similar to their larger counterparts, differing only in their average capacity and space-saving features.
  • Full-size washing machines can hold 7.8 and even 15 kg of laundry, while offering their owners a comprehensive range of features, options, and capabilities. Such a behemoth can serve a family of five or more, while offering greater reliability and durability than slimline models. In terms of size, washing machines are most common with a height of 85-90 cm, a depth of 60 cm, and a width of 60 cm.

Next, let's evaluate the controls offered. Most models from both Hotpoint-Ariston and LG are electronically controlled and feature a display, with program selection and additional options made using a rotary dial, buttons, or a touchscreen. The basic set of modes includes cotton, wool, intensive cleaning, and separate cycles for synthetics and colored fabrics. Many washing machines also offer advanced features:

  • The "Silk" program is suitable for washing delicate fabrics such as silk and satin. It cleans with a minimum spin, a long rinse, and a low water temperature.
  • Express Wash. The quick cycle allows you to clean lightly soiled items, saving you time and money on utilities.
  • The "Sport" program takes into account the characteristics of sportswear fabrics, including thermal underwear and items made from breathable materials. Thanks to a special washing technology, detergents easily penetrate the garments, eliminating unpleasant odors and stains.
  • Stain Removal. A special option for quickly cleaning heavily soiled clothes. This is achieved through intensive drum rotation over a long period of time.
  • The "Children's Clothes" mode. The highlight of this program is heating the water to 90 degrees Celsius and performing a thorough, multi-stage rinse. This removes dirt and germs from fabrics, completely rinses out detergent, and reduces the risk of allergies.
  • Steam injection. This involves a built-in steam generator that delivers hot steam into the drum during the wash cycle, enhancing the cleaning effect of the powder or gel.

It's also important to evaluate the model's efficiency and effectiveness, as it's better to buy a washing machine that's inexpensive to maintain. Both Hotpoint Ariston and LG excelled here, with modern washing machines from both manufacturers achieving top ratings across all parameters. For example, wash quality is rated "A," and the spin speed never drops below "B." In terms of energy consumption, these machines are among the most economical, offering classes “A”, “A++” and even “A+++”.energy efficiency classes

Equally important are the additional features of a washing machine. In addition to basic modes and options, manufacturers often offer secondary functions:

  • built-in stabilizer – a device that regulates voltage fluctuations in the electrical network and stops the operation of equipment at critical levels, protecting electronics;
  • Automatic detergent dosing, allowing the system to automatically adjust the cycle depending on the number of items loaded into the drum and the type of fabric;
  • delayed start timer, which allows you to delay the start of the cycle to any time within 12-24 hours;
  • imbalance control, which can minimize the risk of things getting lumped together or the machine losing stability;
  • aquastop – a system for complete protection of the washing machine from leaks.

Knowing the basic criteria for evaluating models makes it easy to conduct your own comparison. Simply identify the most significant characteristics and, based on these, decide which brand, LG or Hotpoint-Ariston, best meets your requirements.
