Which washing machine should you choose: Siemens or LG?
Nobody buys the first washing machine they see. Before going to the store, consumers typically consider their needs and thoroughly research the market. Often, the question becomes pressing: which to choose – the popular LG brand or the lesser-known Siemens? We suggest analyzing both manufacturers and understanding which machine is more reliable and user-friendly. A detailed review based on the most common criteria will help you identify the winner.
Where are the cars made?
When choosing between Siemens and LG, the first thing you need to do is compare the technical capabilities of the washing machines. It's best to start with the build quality, which often determines the reliability and service life of the machines. Thus, the equipment in question is assembled in the following countries:
- Siemens is mainly produced in Turkey, Spain, and China, but machines assembled in Germany and Russia also enter the Russian market;
- LG are manufactured in Russia, some models are assembled in Korea and China.
There's no clear winner here: the quality of the machine will directly depend on the country of assembly. According to service center statistics, machines from Germany and Korea are considered the most reliable. Russian assembly, regardless of manufacturer, is too unpredictable and often results in premature repairs.
German assembly is considered the highest quality, with Korean assembly in second place, and Russian-assembled machines are the ones that break down most often.
The second step is to identify each brand's weak points. In Siemens machines, this is the control board, while in LG machines, the drain pump and dampers fail more frequently. Predicting the service life of the equipment in both cases is impossible – everything depends on operating conditions. But one thing is certain: repairing the pump is much cheaper and easier than diagnosing and replacing the control module.
Siemens leads the market in terms of loading type. This company supplies both front-loading and top-loading washing machines. LG doesn't offer this option—only front-loading models. Having two design options is considered a plus, as top-loading models are in high demand. Firstly, they are more compact and fit easily into small spaces. Secondly, they are popular with those with back problems, as they avoid having to bend over to open the loading door. A comparison of the brands' product ranges by installation type also favors Siemens. The German brand offers not only freestanding but also built-in washing machines. In this regard, LG is inferior.
Modes and useful options
Next, consider the capacity of the washing machines. LG leads the pack, offering machines with load capacities ranging from 4 to 17 kg of dry laundry. Some of these machines also offer "borderline" drums: 5.5 kg or 6.5 kg, which helps you find the perfect model. Siemens produces machines with capacities of 5-10 kg. If you need a smaller or larger machine, the choice is obvious. However, such requirements are quite rare: 7-9 kg is generally sufficient for the average family.
LG washing machines offer a loading capacity of 4-17 kg, while Siemens makes machines with drums of 5-10 kg.
It's difficult to compare washing machines based on their program selection. Which washing machine is better in this regard depends on the specific model and the consumer's needs. The fact is that almost all washing machines, regardless of price, have a basic set of programs. Conversely, similarly priced washing machines can differ significantly in their functionality. It's also important to note the technologies implemented in the washing machine's production.
- LG. The company has successfully implemented steam technology in its latest models. The "Refresh Laundry" and "Steam Wash" functions proved to be popular and received a positive response from consumers.
- The developers have devised and implemented a number of unique and useful technologies. First on the list is SensoFresh, which removes unpleasant odors from fabrics without water or detergent, using active oxygen and intelligent sensors. The second useful feature, i-Dos, is an advanced dosing system that calculates the required amount of detergent based on automatic analysis of the laundry, its weight, and fabric type. StainRemoval, which removes 16 types of stains, and VarioSpeed, which automatically determines the wash time based on how full the drum is, have proven themselves to be excellent options.
Both brands offer models with built-in drying functions. However, LG offers a much wider selection of washer-dryers.
Washing and spinning quality
When choosing the best washing machine, we always consider its wash quality. The results of a test conducted by the Russian consumer protection society Roskontrol can be considered. The test included six well-known brands, including LG and Siemens. The experiment was conducted as follows:
- 6 different types of stains were applied to cotton fabric, including berry juice, fat and grass;
- the washing machines were loaded to 80% of their capacity;
- the “Cotton” program was turned on with heating up to 60 degrees;
- The quality and time of washing were assessed.

Ultimately, the Siemens washed the laundry 20 minutes faster than the LG. The cleaning performance was virtually identical: for each type of soil, the ratings were "good" or "excellent." The German machine performed better on the berries.
Spin quality was also assessed. The maximum spin speeds varied between the models, but this didn't affect the test results: both machines performed excellently. The Siemens machine performed slightly better, with a residual moisture content of 41%. The LG machine retained 44% of the moisture. The Roskachestvo test clearly showed that the Siemens washing machines slightly outperformed their competitors in terms of wash and spin quality. The experiment also revealed that the LG machine vibrated more, indicating a less stable machine.
Design and cost
In the final stage, we'll compare the machines by design and price. It's difficult to evaluate the appearance of the machines—it's all too subjective. However, it's worth noting that the Siemens lineup includes machines in white, silver, and black. Equipment from LG is only available in light colors; red washing machines have already been discontinued.
Price is an important criterion. Siemens washing machines are significantly more expensive than their competitors. LG is cheaper, although premium models can also be found here for 100,000 rubles or more. It's difficult to draw a conclusion – the machines are practically equal, and much depends on specific models and consumer needs. By most criteria, the more expensive Siemens comes out on top. However, LG is better represented in the budget segment and is significantly cheaper to repair.
