Zanussi washing machine not filling with water
If your Zanussi washing machine isn't filling with water, after starting the cycle and triggering the door lock, the machine will hum for a while, then go silent and display an error message. The drum will remain empty, the laundry will be dirty, and the wash will be incomplete. This can be caused by several issues, ranging from a simple water supply outage to a faulty control board. You'll need to check all possible causes before fixing the dryness issue.
Let's list the possible malfunctions
You can't wash clothes dry in a washing machine, so you shouldn't put off solving the filling problem—it's best to immediately begin investigating the possible cause. Fortunately, an empty drum doesn't always indicate a problem; sometimes it's due to a disconnected central water supply or a shut-off water line.
There's a third, non-repairable cause: a loose door. Before washing, the control board must verify the drum's seal. If the door isn't closed, the electronic lock won't activate, meaning the system won't start the cycle.
Quite often, water intake problems are caused by significant faults and malfunctions. The difficulty in diagnosing them is that the list of faults is long: from the inlet valve to the hoses and control module. Users often encounter as many as eight issues.
- A damaged inlet valve. This device controls the water supply to the machine. If it fails, the membrane no longer responds to the signal sent by the circuit board, and the inlet to the machine remains blocked. Confirming a faulty valve sensor is easy: just connect it to the power supply and apply voltage to it. A working system will close and make a characteristic click, while a broken one will remain silent.
- The filter mesh is clogged. The Zanussi inlet hose has a special filter attachment that traps a significant portion of the dirt and impurities in tap water. Naturally, over time, this part becomes too clogged, preventing the water from flowing into the machine at the required pressure. In this case, the machine hums as it tries to fill the drum, but to no avail.
- A clogged inlet filter. Like the mesh filter, the coarse filter, installed even earlier—right in the water pipe—can also suffer from dirty water. It bears the brunt of the "dirty" water, and without regular cleaning, it can become clogged, resulting in a blockage of water intake.
Before looking for the cause of the breakdown, look at the display - the Zanussi self-diagnostic system can display an error code!
- A broken pressure switch. This is the water level sensor that monitors the drum's fullness. If the device fails, the electronic unit, unable to receive information about the water level, shuts down the system for safety and to prevent leaks. To test the pressure switch, remove the top cover, locate the device, unscrew the screws holding it in place, remove it, and blow into the tube. You should hear a few clicks in response to the air flow. If you don't hear any clicks, it's either broken or clogged.

- Pressure switch hose problems. Sometimes it's not the sensor itself that fails, but the pipe connected to it. It becomes damaged, leaks, and prevents the machine from monitoring the water level in the drum.
- Problems with the inlet hose. If the hose is pinched or kinked, water won't reach the machine.

- A nonfunctional pump. Before filling the tank with clean water, the machine always drains some of the old water remaining in the tank from the previous wash. If the pump can't pump out the liquid, the circuit board won't trigger the fill command.
- A frozen control board. The electronic module is responsible for sending commands and collecting information from the washing machine's main components. If there are problems with the control board's triacs, microchips, or circuits, the system fails and stops the Zanussi.
Modern Zanussi machines make it easier for users to find the cause by displaying an error code on the screen after an automatic system self-diagnosis. In this case, all they need to do is remember the displayed combination and decipher it according to the instructions. Other users will have to manually troubleshoot the problem, checking all the issues that could cause an empty drum.
Features of troubleshooting
It's not that difficult to figure out why your washing machine isn't filling up with water. The main thing is to act consistently and carefully, having first disconnected Zanussi from the water supply and electricity network. The first step is to eliminate the simplest options:
- make sure that the central water supply is functioning and there is water in the pipes;
- check that the water supply tap to the machine is open;
- Detach the inlet hose from the housing and check for blockages, cracks or kinks.
If we don't notice any problems, we move on to the mesh filter. It's a round attachment located in the inlet hose where it meets the machine body. To check its condition, you need to:
- detach the inlet hose from the Zanussi body;
- find a mesh filter;
- Use pliers to grab the existing protrusion on the filter and pull it towards you;
- clean the mesh under running water (if necessary, clean it with a toothbrush or soak it in a lemon solution);
- insert the filter into the seat and then connect the hose.
There may be water left in the inlet hose from previous washes – be sure to empty the hose first!
Water won't fill if the coarse filter is clogged. It's installed directly into the water pipe, just behind the faucet. To fix this, unhook the inlet hose and use wrenches to loosen a couple of components. A stream of water will flow out of the resulting hole, flushing the filter mesh. Just be prepared for the stream and have a basin underneath.
Water inlet valve
Most often, the water won't fill due to a damaged intake valve. It can't be repaired—the only option is to buy a new one and replace the old one. A service center will cost you from 4,000 rubles, but you can do it yourself for 2,000 rubles. In the latter case, you'll only need to buy a genuine, high-quality part. Once you've found a replacement, we can begin the "castling" process.
- We disconnect the machine from communications.

- We drain the water from the inlet hose and put it aside.
- Remove the top cover.
- We find the valve located at the back wall, where the hose connects to the machine.
- We take a photo of the wiring connected to the device (to make the reverse connection easier).
- We release the wiring.
- We loosen the central bolt.
- We take out the valve.
- We install the new device in the mounting location, secure it and connect the wiring.
Choose only original spare parts that match the serial number of a specific Zanussi model.
After replacing the valve, we reassemble the machine and connect it to the power supply. Then, run a test wash and check that water is filling the machine. We immediately assess the reliability of the fasteners and clamps - there should be no drips or leaks on the inlet hose, water pipe, or body. If the problem cannot be resolved, contact the service center.
