Removing the top cover of a Bosch washing machine
If your appliance breaks down, repairs are inevitable. Despite its reliability, a Bosch washing machine can also break down. To begin repairs, any technician, especially a novice, needs to know all the intricacies of removing the lid of a Bosch washing machine, as this is where everything begins. Let's break it down step by step.
Instructions
Opening the top lid on a modern washing machine is the easiest repair step. Before you begin, be sure to unplug the washing machine. By disconnecting the power, you make the appliance safe, and that's the most important thing. Then follow these instructions:
- Move the machine into a clear space, allowing access to the rear of the machine. If necessary, disconnect the sewer and water supply hoses. When you pull out the machine, the hoses may simply not be long enough and they will cause you additional inconvenience.
Be sure to turn off the water supply tap to the washing machine before starting work.
- Take a T-20 star-head screwdriver or a Phillips-head screwdriver.
- At the back of the washing machine, locate the two bolts on the sides as shown in the photo below and completely remove them.

- Now slide the cover toward you, that is, from front to back relative to the machine, and then lift it up. That's it, access to many of the machine's components is now guaranteed. For a full disassembly, read the publication. How to disassemble a Bosch washing machine.

To put the cover back in place, you'll first have to slide it into the slots. Only then tighten the bolts.
Older generation Bosch washing machines, of which there aren't many left, have a different lid fastening system. The screws holding it in place are located not at the back, but on the side, closer to the control panel, as shown in the photo. Please note that these screws may be hidden behind caps.

Other brands
Removing the top cover of a front-loading washing machine of any brand is easy; in most cases, they are attached in the same way, with two bolts at the back. LG, Samsung, Ariston, Electrolux, Indesit, Hansa, and Whirlpool washing machines all have this type of fastening. However, there are exceptions; here are some examples.
The Ardo machine requires a bit of skill. The lid is also secured with two bolts at the back. However, to lift it, you'll have to move it forward at an angle relative to the machine body. You'll know exactly what angle this is once the lid releases from the latches.

Miele washing machines feature a side-mounted lid. Hex-head screws are hidden under caps. These caps can be easily removed with a knife or flat-head screwdriver. After removing the screws, lift the lid up and remove it from the latches located on the sides of the rear panel.

A few words are also needed about top-loading machines, as their top cover serves a different purpose and is therefore removed differently. Let's look at how exactly this works using an Indesit machine as an example. To remove the top cover for repairs, follow these steps:
- remove the control panel, which is attached at the back with two Phillips-head screws;

- carefully lift the panel without tearing out the wires;
- disconnect the wiring from the panel and move it aside;
- Look carefully under the cover of the machine at the back, find three screws on the right and left: two screws at the top and one at the bottom;
- unscrew the lower screws;

- Using a screwdriver, carefully pry the cover upward by the holes. Do this alternately: first slightly from the left, then slightly from the right, then slightly from the left, and then from the right. This gradual movement will prevent the latches from breaking.

- lift the lid up until you feel that the latches are completely disengaged.
As you can see, opening the top cover on any brand of washing machine, including Bosch, isn't all that difficult—the main thing is finding the right fasteners. You'll figure everything out as you go. Good luck!
