Dishwasher warranty terms and conditions
The length of a dishwasher's warranty is another argument for or against its purchase. If a manufacturer offers a long warranty on its product, it means they are confident in its quality, which in itself is a strong incentive for buyers. We decided to study which dishwasher brands offer the longest warranties and which companies offer the most lenient warranty service. We'll share our findings in this article, and we hope you find it useful.
Duration of warranty service
Most manufacturers offer a short overall warranty on dishwashers, typically no more than five years. However, in pursuit of gullible customers, companies resort to various tricks and gimmicks, offering separate warranties for various components and assemblies, often widely publicizing these.
For example, Bosch offers a one-year warranty on most of its machines. However, the warranty on the dishwasher's body and leak protection system is a whopping 10 years. Buyers see a large sticker on the dishwasher's body that says "10-year warranty" and assume this is the warranty for the entire machine. In fact, if you read the sticker carefully, you'll find that the smaller letters around the circle actually say, The company guarantees 10 years of protection against through-corrosion of the housing and the operation of the Aquastop system.It doesn't seem like a scam, but rather an indirect misrepresentation. What about other manufacturers?
- Electrolux manufactures most dishwashers with a two-year warranty. However, if the buyer wishes to extend the warranty period, they can do so for an additional fee. A one-year warranty extension costs approximately $22, a two-year extension costs $30, and a three-year extension costs $38.
The additional warranty is issued by a special certificate, which is attached to the insert with the main warranty.
- Hansa brand owners offer a one-year warranty on their equipment. They do not offer any additional warranties or warranty extensions. However, Hansa dishwasher reviews tell us that this technology is far from second-rate.
- Beko dishwashers only come with a one-year warranty, but their sales are growing, thanks to their record-low price and excellent quality, which satisfies consumers.
- Siemens dishwashers, while quite expensive and well-deserved in their impeccable reputation, don't offer a long warranty. Most models come with a warranty of no more than one year, which is surprising, considering their dishwashers typically last 8-15 years without any problems.
- As with Electrolux appliances, Zanussi offers a one-year general warranty on its dishwashers, but this can be extended. Prices are the same as for Electrolux machine warranty extensions. The maximum extension is three years, for a total of four years, but is this worth it?
As we can see, leading dishwasher manufacturers are reluctant to offer long-term warranties on their products, and there are reasons for this. Craftsmen have been talking for quite some time about the deterioration of the quality of materials and the reduction in production costs. Their experience suggests that the greater the proportion of unreliable plastic parts, the greater the risk of machine failure. So, a short warranty on equipment isn't a whim on the part of companies, but rather a necessary measure, and judging by what mechanics say, it's only going to get worse.
When is free repair possible and when is it not?
Now let's look at the cases in which a service center is obligated to perform warranty repairs on a dishwasher, and in which cases they may refuse. The buyer has the right to receive warranty service if the service center technician determines that any malfunction was caused by a manufacturing defect or improper storage conditions prior to the appliance's sale to the buyer. In this case, the service center is obligated to repair all defects at the company's expense, or if this is impossible, compensate the buyer for any losses at the seller's expense.
A dishwasher can also be repaired under warranty if it fails under normal operating conditions (without any damage on the part of the buyer). This could be due to premature, natural wear of parts, short circuits in electrical circuits, failure of semiconductor components, etc. Warranty repairs may be denied without voiding the warranty in general if:
- the electronic or electrical components of the dishwasher have failed as a result of problems with the electrical network;
- the breakdown occurred as a result of poor quality tap water getting into the dishwasher;
- the breakdown occurred as a result of force majeure: flood, fire, earthquake, etc.
If a dishwasher breaks due to the fault of a third party, the owner still has the right to make a valid claim against them, but this will require going to court. There are numerous precedents. Numerous lawsuits have been filed against energy suppliers for causing appliance failures for one or more consumers. However, courts often side with the consumer, so the problem is resolvable. If you are unable to obtain a free repair from the service center, you can recover your losses by suing the party directly at fault.
How can you lose your warranty?
Many people realize that installing a dishwasher themselves and doing it incorrectly can void the warranty. Unfortunately, that's where their knowledge of the possible ways to void the warranty ends. In fact, installing the dishwasher yourself does not void the warranty; this is caused by violating the installation procedures described in the instructions. In addition, free dishwasher service may be denied if:
- the equipment was subjected to deliberate mechanical damage;
This applies to damage caused during transportation, handling, as well as damage caused by children, etc.
- the rules for using the dishwasher, as specified in the instructions, were grossly violated;
- the breakdown occurred as a result of unqualified home-made repairs to the dishwasher;
- Violations were committed when preparing warranty documentation.
So, warranty terms vary across dishwasher manufacturers. Some resort to tricks and gimmicks, but the overall approach is the same. Extended warranties are rare, and that's because everyone is trying to make their products as cheaply as possible from cheap and often low-quality materials.
