Bosch washing machine does not spin

Bosch washing machine doesn't spinWhat should you do if your "home helper" isn't spinning the laundry after a wash cycle? This is a question that automatic machine users often ask. We'll explore all the causes of this malfunction and explain how to fix it, using a Bosch washing machine as an example.

User reasons

Most often, a Bosch washing machine fails to spin because the user makes a mistake when selecting a program or violates simple operating instructions. Washing programs designed for delicate clothes and linens are initially set to either not spin at all or to spin at the lowest speed. Therefore, don't be surprised if you remove laundry from the drum after the "Silk" cycle that is too wet.

program selectionThe second reason is that the user inattentively set the spin speed on the washing machine, turning off the spin completely. There's no problem at all. Just wait until the wash cycle is complete and then turn on the spin function separately. This function is indicated by a spiral on Bosch washing machines.

The third reason is a mismatch between the load weight and the drum's maximum capacity. You shouldn't overload the drum, just as you shouldn't underload it. An unspinned down jacket is a sign of overloading a small washing machine, while wet organza curtains are a sign of underloading.

Be careful when sorting your laundry. It's not just the color that matters, but also the quantity and weight of the items. Add larger items or tennis balls to the smaller items.

Technical problems

If the above reasons don't apply to you, then you need to look for a fault. The lack of spin may be caused by:

  • faulty tachometer;
  • faulty water level sensor;
  • broken electric motor;
  • filter or pump clogged;
  • failure of the electronic module.

We'll discuss troubleshooting the above-mentioned problems in more detail in the next section. For now, I'd like to discuss the specific design features of belt-driven washing machines, including Bosch. The fact is that the belt of such washing machines stretches a little over time and can no longer provide stable transmission.

Some people might ask, "What do spin problems have to do with this, and what does the drive belt have to do with them?" In fact, it has a direct connection. A stretched belt causes the electronic module to receive RPM information from the tachometer that doesn't match the one stored in the database. As a result, the electronic module malfunctions, causing the program to stop just before the spin cycle. The solution is to tighten the belt or replace it. By the way, if you don't have a Bosch, Ardo washing machine doesn't spin underwear, the reason may be exactly the same.

After replacing the belt, the electronics of the Bosch washing machine begin to work correctly, as do the electrical modules.

Troubleshooting

If your Bosch washing machine refuses to spin the laundry, or even activate this stage of the washing program, you should start by unscrewing and inspecting the debris filter. Cleaning the dust filter is a necessary procedure for any automatic washing machine, and if neglected, it can lead to problems with water drainage and the spin cycle starting.

Next, we need to unplug the washing machine and move it to a place where we can easily disassemble it. Remove the detergent drawer, lay the washing machine on its left side, and remove the tray. Underneath, we access the drain hose and pump. Unscrew the clamps, pull off the hose, and inspect it. Remove the pump, disassemble it, and inspect, first of all, the impeller. Then, take a multimeter and check the resistance of the unit.

If the pump is fine, you should immediately check the motor, as it's relatively easy to access through the bottom. Remove the brushes; if they're intact, check the motor winding resistance.

This is done mainly to clear one's conscience, since in the above-described situation the engine is usually in good working order, although problems with the brushes arise periodically.

After checking the motor, we move on to the Bosch washing machine's tachometer. The Hall sensor is located directly on the washing machine's motor housing; we can also access it through the bottom, remove it, and check its resistance. If the sensor doesn't ring, replace it with a similar one.

Now let's check the pressure switch.

  1. We unscrew the screws that hold the top cover of the Bosch washing machine.
  2. Remove the top cover.
  3. We find an object similar to the one shown in the picture below; this is the water level sensor.

  4. We thoroughly clean and blow out its tube, and then measure the resistance. If a breakdown is detected, the pressure switch must be replaced.

The worst thing is if, in the end, the search for a fault leads you to the control module of the Bosch washing machine. It is necessary to determine which of the triacs has failed, and doing this with only basic experience in handling electronics is very difficult, practically impossible. You'll have to contact a qualified technician.

Prevention

Any appliance is prone to breakdowns from time to time, and nothing lasts forever, but, surprisingly, you can ensure your Bosch washing machine lasts longer than usual without breaking down. How can you do this? It's very simple: follow the rules that technicians constantly urge. And which, with equal unenviable consistency, are ignored by washing machine users. Here are those rules.

  • Do not throw clothes into the washing machine drum without first checking their pockets and loading a Bosch washing machineremoving all foreign objects that could get into the tank and subsequently cause a blockage.
  • Place a medium amount of laundry into the drum. It is very important not to overload the car, but also not to idle it. For example, if your Bosch washing machine has a 6 kg load capacity, you should wash between 2.5 and 5 kg—this is optimal. This will ensure the motor and drive mechanism last as long as possible.
  • Run your washing machine at least once a month. If the washing machine sits idle for any reason for a long time, its rubber seals will wear out, which will cost you money in repairs.
  • Don't overfill the detergent drawer. Remember, your washing machine won't appreciate your generosity; in fact, excess detergent will clog the pipes and pressure switch tube, causing damage.

Never exceed the recommended dosage stated on the package. The manufacturer, pursuing its own interests, overstates the recommended dosage.

  • If possible, purchase a voltage stabilizer and from now on connect the washing machine to the power supply only through it. This measure will protect the washing machine's sensitive electronics from many risks.
  • After each wash, don't forget to perform routine maintenance on your "home helper": wipe the door seal and detergent drawer with a cloth, open the door wide to dry and pull out the detergent drawer, unscrew the dust filter, and drain any remaining water so it doesn't stagnate.

In conclusion, despite the myths about the reliability of Bosch washing machines, we note that they occasionally break down. In particular, the machine often simply refuses to spin the laundry. We've discussed the reasons for this behavior in this publication; we hope you find the information useful!

    We have a Bosch washing machine with an 8 kg capacity. I wash down jackets on the "Down" cycle, but it doesn't spin. I set the rinse and spin cycles separately, but it doesn't spin. Even though I set the regular mixed cycle for an hour, everything works fine. Could you please tell me what this could be?

    My Bosch washing machine with a 6 kg capacity doesn't have a rinse and spin cycle; I have to set it separately for each wash. We've regretted the purchase countless times. Can I return it?

  3. Gravatar Oleg Oleg:

    You can be clever, but it turns out our BOSCH WAE24240OE washing machine doesn't have a separate spin function, while two older, century-old ones did. It has a rinse and spin function, which we don't need.

    Washes, drains, but there is no spin.
