Indesit washing machine error code H20
Error H20 in an Indesit washing machine usually appears when the program first begins filling the drum. The water gurgles for a long time, and the drum spins for about 5-7 minutes. Then the washing machine freezes, and the display shows the error code H20. Our goal is to decipher this error, determine its causes, and suggest the most appropriate solutions.
What could have happened?
In 90% of cases, the causes of the H20 error are more than trivial and completely unrelated to any malfunction. Even if we exclude the most extreme cases, such as when a user calls a service center complaining of an H20 error without even thinking to check for water in the water supply, the causes are quite common.
By the way! According to statistics provided to us by leading service centers, one in nine customers calling about H20 errors didn't check if there was water in the water supply.
Before we discuss them, let's decipher the H20 error code. It roughly translates to "the washing machine is unable to fill with water within a certain amount of time." So why do problems with filling with water occur?
- You forgot to open the tap located at the junction of the inlet hose and the water pipe.
- The mesh filter installed in front of the valve of the Indesit washing machine is clogged.
- The mechanical part of the washing machine's inlet valve is damaged or clogged.
- The electrical part of the fill valve burned out.
- The wires supplying the fill valve are burnt, oxidized, or broken.
- Communication between the control module and the fill valve is broken due to problems with the electronic control board.
Problems with water supply
Error code H20 completely disables your Indesit washing machine, preventing it from washing, rinsing, or spinning. This can be caused by problems with the water supply. Let's imagine all the taps are open and there's water in the water supply, but for some reason it's not reaching the washing machine. Before worrying about malfunctions in any of the washing machine's components, check to see if there's a blockage between the water supply and the machine's drum. Here's what to do:
- let's turn off the water;
- unscrew the water inlet hose into the washing machine;
- let's clean and wash it thoroughly;
- At the base of the machine, where the inlet hose is screwed on, there is a mesh that needs to be removed and washed.

If the problem persists, you'll also need to clean the inside of the inlet valve. To do this, first unplug the washing machine and remove the top cover. Next, unscrew the inlet valve, remove all the hoses that connect to it, and set it aside. Next, disassemble the valve body and thoroughly clean it.
Filling valve failure
If, after disassembling the fill valve, you discover that the problem isn't a clog, but rather a problem with the opening and closing mechanism, and it's not working properly, you need to determine the cause. Carefully inspect and feel the fill valve mechanism and try to determine why it's not working. Take a multimeter and measure the contact resistance.
The resistance of the working intake valve is about 3 kOhm.
Indesit washing machine filler valves don't break very often. The main cause of valve failure is power surges. That's why our technicians strongly recommend connecting your washing machine through a voltage stabilizer, especially if your power supply is unstable. For more information on checking the filler valve, read this article. Intake Solenoid Valve - Checking and Replacing.
The control module is moping
Error H20 may be caused by the control module, but to be sure, you'll first need to rule out all the above-mentioned causes before you can confidently pinpoint the washing machine's electronic "brain." Checking and repairing the electronic module isn't easy, even for those experienced with various microchips.
After removing the electronic module, carefully inspect the control board; some faults can be identified visually. Burnt tracks, triacs, thyristors, and other components may be visible if the module has been exposed to a voltage surge. In all other cases, the defect can only be identified by carefully testing the circuit.
We're not against DIY washing machine repairs, but we do believe that not all problems can be fixed at home. Sometimes, you need to trust a professional. A broken control module is just such a case.
In conclusion, if you encounter the H20 error on your Indesit washing machine, don't panic; you'll likely be able to fix the problem quickly. It's true that this error can sometimes be caused by a faulty control module, but such cases are rare and shouldn't be cause for concern. Good luck!

I don't understand why you need to clean the valve mesh if it's still new and unused?
Another reason not listed is one that can easily be fixed myself. Before I got to this "malfunction," I rummaged through the entire machine. I cleaned the filters and valves, checked the electronics, and replaced the heating element (it was leaking to ground). And yet, in rinse mode, the water valve would turn on twice for 5 seconds, and after a while, an H2O error would appear. There's a water level sensor (pressure switch) at the top of the machine, under the lid. A tube runs from the tank to it. It was clogged with undissolved detergent. I removed the tube from the sensor and blew into it a couple of times. I replaced it, and… voila! The machine works—fills, rinses, and drains.
Thank you, Evgeny!
