Ariston washing machinesAriston automatic washing machines are renowned worldwide for their quality, design, and advanced technology. Some models are called Hotpoint Ariston. Why? To find out, we suggest exploring the brand's history, examining its strengths, and exploring its weaknesses.

A bit of history

Back in 1930, Aristide Merloni founded a company in Italy that successfully began manufacturing scales, Industrie Merlon. In 1945, it expanded into a new manufacturing niche, producing electric water heaters under the Ariston brand (a Greek word meaning "successful" in English).

In 1970, Aristide divided his company into three parts and transferred management to his sons:

  • Antonio took over the Antonio Merloni SpA plant for the production of scales and gas cylinders;
  • Vittorio inherited the Merloni Elettrodomestici company, which manufactured home appliances, and he became its president in 1975, from which time the independent existence of the Ariston brand began;
  • Francesco became president of the company Merloni Termosanitari, which produced water heaters and bathtubs.

Ariston plantBy 1987, thanks to sound policies and marketing research, Merloni Elettrodomestici was developing successfully, and demand for its products was growing. In parallel with the growth of this company, in 1975 a plant was opened in Italy Indesit, which also began producing household appliances. However, its success was more rapid; Indesit appliances were known throughout Europe, and by the 1980s, sales were 1.5 times greater than those of Elettrodomestici. This impressed Vittorio Merloni, and in 1989, he acquired the well-known European brand Indesit.

The decision was strategically sound, and production immediately took off. Representative offices began to open in other countries: Poland, Portugal, Turkey, and France. In 1990, Merloni acquired the French concern Scholtes, and then the English concern Hotpoint, thereby capturing a large market in France, the UK, and Ireland. In 2005, Indesit's growing reputation forced the renaming of the Elettrodomestici concern to the Indesit Company.

Elettrodomestici opened a representative office in Russia in 1995. Consumers appreciated the Indesit and Ariston brands.

In 2000, Merloni acquired the Russian Stinol plant in Lipetsk, where it began producing Indesit appliances. In 2004, the company built a second plant. After the merger with Hotpoint, the Ariston brand was considered for renaming to Hotpoint. This was the case in some countries, but in Russia and the CIS, washing machines have been produced under the dual name Hotpoint Ariston since 2007.

Thus, the world's largest concern for the production of equipment Indesit The company owns such well-known brands as Hotpoint, Stinol, Indesit, Ariston. In our country, it is a leader, offering equipment in various price segments.

    Is the Ariston AVD 109 EX still in production or is it discontinued? If it had a stainless steel case, a control unit 10 cm higher, and terminals on the side, it would be a fantastic machine!

    I have an original ARISTON washing machine, model AI 1248 CTX, from February 1996, and an ARISTON 7-cook multifunctional stove, model G 540 M5.2, from April 1996. They work perfectly. Thank you, Merloni!

    We bought an Ariston. It's running really bad. It's only been around for a month, and we're already having a ton of problems. A repair shop is 40 km away, or they'll come and fix it for us, and we'll charge a toll. I'm a pensioner and can't afford that, so we couldn't return it to the store for that reason. Manufacturers, please help us solve these problems.

    I don't know what to do. The machine just won't work. I start it, there's a click, and that's it. Silence.
