Whirlpool washing machines

Whirlpool washing machinesThere are few people in the world who aren't familiar with a Whirlpool washing machine. In fact, approximately one in twenty families living in civilized countries owns one. Over its long history, the company has produced a colossal number of such appliances, but what's the situation now? Should you continue to trust Whirlpool products? Let's find out.

Where do Whirlpool machines come from, who makes them?

One of the world's most famous brands, Whirlpool, is owned by the Whirlpool Corporation, which produces washing machines. It has a long history. The Whirlpool brand and company name appeared in 1950, but the company itself was founded much earlier, in 1911, under a different name. Thus, Whirlpool Corporation has now surpassed 104 years of existence, and during these 104 years, the company has seen many changes, aside from the impeccable quality of its products.

Whirlpool PlantIt all started with a small company in 1911 in the US state of Michigan, which launched the production of electric washing machines. This continued until 1929, when it was acquired by the larger company Nineteen Hundred, which continued to operate successfully in the market until 1950, when it was renamed Whirlpool. Since then, the corporation has grown rapidly, acquiring and absorbing smaller manufacturers of washing machines and other appliances, thus penetrating various countries around the world.

Currently, to determine the origin of a specific Whirlpool washing machine model, you need to examine its documentation. After all, the corporation, founded in the United States, has production facilities on multiple continents. In 2009, washing machine manufacturer Whirlpool entered the Russian market, establishing a factory in the city of Alexandrov in the Vladimir region. As a result, a significant number of Russian-assembled Whirlpool appliances have appeared in the CIS countries.

Please note! Currently, Whirlpool washing machines produced in Slovakia are the most popular among Russian customers.

Examples of Whirlpool washing machine models and their characteristics

As noted, Whirlpool washing machines are renowned worldwide, but what makes appliances produced under this brand so popular? It's certainly due to their diverse model range, high quality, and innovative approach to developing and implementing new technologies. Here are a few examples of the best washing machine models created by this manufacturer.

The Whirlpool AWE6516/1 is a fully automatic washing machine manufactured using modern technology. It features a top-loading design, a 5.5 kg drum, and a speed of up to 1000 rpm. It's made in Slovakia. This model isn't exactly quiet or noisy, but it's similar to most modern automatics: it washes at 62 dB and spins at 76 dB. You can make this "home helper" much quieter by:

  • install it correctly on the floor, strictly level;
  • use special stands that absorb vibration;
  • use anti-vibration mats.

Additional features include delayed start, quick wash, and water level control. In addition, it is worth noting that the number of washing programs is quite large for a budget machine – 18. The machine is protected against imbalance, child safety, and foaming, and is also quite economical. Dimensions are 90x40x60. Average price: $340.

WHIRLPOOL AWE 6516 1

The Whirlpool AWS61212 is a very attractively priced front-loading washing machine. Its drum holds up to 6 kg of laundry and spins at up to 1200 rpm. It's made in Slovakia. The noise level is average. The drum is made of plastic and features electronic controls. The washing programs are very diverse and numerous (18), with the "Night Wash" and "Stain Remover" modes being particularly noteworthy. This machine offers high-quality safety features, including:

  • protection against imbalance;
  • protection against excessive foam formation;
  • protection against leakage, overflow;
  • self-testing for faults.

WHIRLPOOL AWS 61212

The Whirlpool AWS61212 is a very energy-efficient machine, boasting an A++ energy rating and less than 50 liters of water per cycle. Dimensions are 85 x 60 x 45 cm. The average price is $300.

Whirlpool WTLS65912. A solid mid-range automatic washing machine. Made in Slovakia, it loads top-loading and has a maximum capacity of 6.3 kg. The machine is quite noisy, despite the manufacturer's claims of a maximum level of 76 dB. 18 washing programs will satisfy even the most discerning user. Interesting features:

  • secondary rinse;
  • delayed start;
  • super fast wash.

A definite drawback is the lack of leak protection, which is unforgivable for a mid-range machine. While there is a foam control system and a child safety lock, these don't really save the day. A definite plus is that this machine is incredibly efficient, with an energy rating of A+++. Dimensions are 90 x 40 x 60 cm. The average price is $420.

WHIRLPOOL WTLS 65912

Whirlpool AWE2221. Another decent budget machine that will provide high-quality care for your laundry. It loads clothes top-down and is made in Slovakia.

The lack of a display is immediately noticeable, but believe me, in this case you are unlikely to need it, and if it were there, the model would have cost several tens of dollars more.

The machine's drum holds a 5 kg load, but there's a downside you'll have to live with. Its rotation speed is only 800 rpm, which doesn't provide the desired spin quality, but this isn't a huge issue in all cases. Additional features are also quite limited, with only indicator lights showing the progress of the wash cycle, but there are a whopping 18 wash cycles. Dimensions are 90 x 40 x 60 cm. The average price is $280.

Consumer reviews of Whirlpool laundry appliances

To fully understand what the washing machines produced under the Whirlpool brand are, you need to consider consumer reviews, who have been using this technology for some time. We present these reviews to you.

Elena, 25 years old, Novorossiysk

I've been using a Whirlpool AWE2221 washing machine for exactly one year. We saved a lot of money when we bought it, buying it on sale and on a cheap price. I was worried it would be a terrible machine, but I was very wrong. I also really liked the top-loading feature, although I used to only want machines with front doors. Many people say Whirlpools are very noisy, but it's not. You can barely hear it from the bathroom, even when it's spinning. The spin cycle could be better, but overall, it's good enough for the price. A rating of 5.

Alena, 30 years old, Yaroslavl

We've had a Whirlpool AWE2221 washing machine for 10 years. It worked flawlessly for almost 10 years (less than 3 months), but then the drum suddenly jammed. We're going to take it to a service center to have it repaired; maybe it'll work again. The machine is simple, but it works well, Although I won't buy another top-loading machine, I don't like it. A solid 4.

Alexander, 42 years old, Sevastopol

I've been using the Whirlpool AWS61212 washing machine for two years now. Overall, it's great. I'm happy with the wash programs, especially the 15-degree wash. It may look a bit clunky, but for the price, it's worth it. It spins clothes well, and the laundry comes out semi-dry. It deserves a 5-star rating.

Nina, 36, Moscow

I've had a Whirlpool AWS61212 washing machine for 3.5 years. I'm very disappointed with this purchase. It's ugly, washes poorly, and spins well, though. The door closes very poorly. I'm afraid to press it because the locking mechanism is made of plastic and is terribly flimsy. Sometimes I have problems with the buttons; I press and press and nothing happens. A reboot brings everything back to normal. I don't recommend this model to anyone. I give it a 2-.

In conclusion, we note that Whirlpool is the oldest manufacturer of washing machines in the world. Their relentless pursuit of making better technology for people has helped them stay on the market for over 100 years. Competitors are certainly hot on their heels, but this company is still able to offer the best washing machines.

    A wonderful machine. Mine has worked for 15 years without a single repair. I will only buy a new one from Whirlpool.

  3. Gravatar Lyudmila Lyudmila:

    I'm disappointed in advance, I don't like everything.

  4. Gravatar Natalia Natalia:

    No complaints or repairs in 16 years. I'd like a front-loading model now, but I'm not sure they make it as well as they used to.

  5. Gravatar Victoria Victoria:

    No repairs for 15 years. And now the shock absorbers have worn out, and when spinning, if there's a lot of laundry, the machine makes noise and shifts. I'm considering a similar machine, but it used to be Italian-made, and even all the parts inside were numbered and the manufacturer was listed. But now? How do you know what you're buying?

    Avo 5245, is there a dryer there?

    Only Whirlpool! The AWE 6515 machine has been in service for 11 years without any repairs or complaints!

  9. Gravatar Victoria Victoria:

    I have a Whirpool AW9630. It worked for three years, rarely used. On September 23rd, it stopped working. We ordered a repair. Today is December 10th, and the repairmen can't fix it. They say it's the only one of its kind.
    Even if they give me one for free, I’ll refuse.

      I've had this machine for 23 years, and only the drain pump has broken in two decades. Your mechanics are either incompetent or cunning. Maybe they want you to throw the machine in their yard?

  10. Gravatar Segonda Segonda:

    My Awe6725 vertical washer lasted 10 years, including a move. On the 11th cycle, it started malfunctioning. It filled with water in short bursts and wouldn't move on to the next cycle. It also stopped spinning altogether. I dropped a coin in it beforehand. It made such a grinding noise, I thought it would fly off into outer space. The motor and heater are fine. I don't think it's ceramic or inverter. The lid is rusted along the edge near the hinges. And the plastic has turned rusty. I was thinking of getting another Whirlpool, but this time a front-loading one. I looked at prices up to $300. Nothing interesting. They make them here. There's a sticker that says "Steam" and says there's steam. There's no corresponding button. We looked through the description. There's no steam.

  11. Gravatar Marina Marina:

    My first favorite machine. I'm very happy with it. It's been working for 7 years. I do 2-3 washes a week.

  12. Gravatar Tatyana Tatiana:

    My first machine lasted 11 years, and the paint on the lid peeled off, but it washed flawlessly. It made a loud sigh and squeak at the end of the spin cycle, and the detergent dispenser didn't rinse out properly. But it wasn't exactly gentle on me. So, I'm happy with it. I'll be getting another Whirpool, but a front-loading one.

  13. Gravatar Antonina Antonina:

    My Whirlpool lasted 18 years without any repairs. But it was imported. Which one should I buy now? Whose assembly? My choice: Slovenian or Russian. Any advice?
