Purchased underwear should always be washed before use. The first wash serves several purposes.

1. Softens the fabric. Calico, when new, is quite stiff to the touch. After washing, even with a regular detergent, the material becomes softer to the touch, making it more comfortable to sleep on.

Calico fabric may shrink after the first wash. Don't be alarmed. This is due to the structural characteristics of the material and is considered normal if the shrinkage is no more than 5% after washing and drying.

How to wash calico in a washing machine?

Manufacturers offer calico bed linen in a wide variety of colors, to suit even the most daring tastes. The right washing cycle will preserve the fabric's original brightness and shape for a long time. Calico is machine washable. The material can be easily washed with regular washing powder or gel and responds well to the softening effects of fabric softeners.

The washing machine's control program provides a special setting for different fabric categories. The recommended water temperature for washing calico is 30-60°C. To prevent shrinkage, manufacturers recommend a gentle temperature of up to 40°C.

Calico bed linen should be washed separately from other fabrics. Before washing, sort by color. Avoid mixing calicoes of different colors, as this may cause fading.

To preserve the brightness of the fabric for longer, pillowcases and duvet covers should be turned inside out when washing.

You can choose a regular (cotton) or delicate wash cycle at 600-800 rpm. The same applies to the spin cycle. The higher the spin cycle, the more difficult it will be to iron the garment, and there's also a risk of damaging the fabric. Before hanging the garment to dry, shake it well. This will straighten the fabric slightly, making it easier to iron.
