Washing a stroller in a washing machine
A stroller used daily for strolls with a baby gets dirty quite quickly. Street dust and dirt, as well as "surprises" from a child like juice, milk, and ice cream, take their toll. Parents who are faced with cleaning their child's stroller for the first time wonder how to quickly remove stains. Can a stroller be machine washed, or is it better to wash it by hand? Let's figure out the best approach.
Getting ready for laundry
So, after another walk, you noticed that the stroller is long overdue for a “freshen up”. Before you begin cleaning, please read the information on the product label. The label is usually located on the stroller's hood. The label states:
- what material is used (it can be leatherette, fabric or eco-leather);
- Is it possible to machine wash removable textile elements?
- What products will help with cleaning?
- preferred washing mode.
Next, you need to disassemble the stroller: remove the cover, the mattress, and basically all the fabric that detaches from the frame. This process shouldn't be difficult, as fabric elements are usually fastened with snaps.
The remaining parts of the stroller are washed entirely in the bathtub. Place the stroller frame, including the non-removable hood, seat, and other parts, in the bathtub. Wipe metal parts with a cloth, dampen fabric parts with soapy water or detergent, and brush off any dirt. Wash the stroller vertically. After washing, be sure to rinse the surface thoroughly to prevent streaks.
Care options
If you want to clean a stroller made of eco-leather, you must do so by hand. Machine washing is out of the question. Simply soak a sponge or cloth in a special leather care product. If there is heavy soiling, you can remove it with ammonia. Ammonia is quite aggressive, so it should only be used on heavily soiled areas.
Leatherette does not require any additional treatment with special household chemicals; it is enough to wipe the material with a soap solution.
Stroller covers are machine washable. It's best to place the items in a special bag and run the machine on a delicate cycle with water heated to 30°C. We recommend refreshing the stroller once a week. Raincoat fabric requires special, hand-cleaning. This fabric should be cleaned with a brush and a mild detergent. Avoid using stain removers and bleaches.
A children's mattress can be washed either by hand or in the machine. If hand washing is planned, soak the mattress in a soapy solution. If heavily soiled, generously apply laundry soap and let the mattress sit for 2-3 hours to allow the solution to soak in. Alternatively, treat the mattress with a weak solution of water and baking soda.
Zippy strollers are hand-cleaned only. Machine washing can damage the delicate fabric. The manufacturer does not provide a warranty against damage to the material in this situation.
Automatic washing
Stroller covers are machine washable. The material can easily withstand a short period of tumble drying on a delicate cycle. Be sure to turn off the spin cycle (or at least select a speed no higher than 600 rpm) and set the water temperature to 30 degrees Celsius. Avoid long cycles, as prolonged exposure to water can damage the fabric.
It is better to wash stroller covers with baby powder or gel, without using stain removers, bleaches, or conditioners.
Observe the maximum load weight and avoid overloading the drum. It's best to separate the items into two batches and run the cycles alternately. It's recommended to pre-wash stubborn stains by hand before loading them into the drum. Machine drying is also not recommended. It's best to air dry the stroller parts.
I can't remove the fabric elements.
If you can't remove the fabric parts from the stroller, you've got a non-disassemblable model. In that case, you'll obviously have to forego machine washing. If the stroller can't be disassembled, you'll have to clean it entirely by hand.
Place the stroller in the bathtub and rinse with soapy water. If there are stubborn stains on the fabric, soak the area thoroughly with detergent and let it sit for a while. Then, brush over all elements, working from top to bottom. Once all the dirt has been removed, rinse the stroller with plenty of clean water. The wash is complete; all that remains is to wait for the excess liquid to drain.
It is important to clean not only the area where the child sits, but also the chassis. The fabric upholstery of the backrest and seat can be treated with a special carpet cleaner. The composition will allow you to remove dirt from non-removable fabric.
