Washing the Ascona mattress cover
Ascona mattress covers are designed to protect your bed from premature wear, stains, and loss of shape. But, like any fabric surface, sooner or later, a mattress cover needs to be washed. Can an Ascona mattress cover be machine washed? What washing cycle and water temperature are recommended? Let's answer these questions.
Is machine washable?
As a rule, the fabric used to make Ascona mattress pads is very durable. It's made of semi-synthetic fiber, so it doesn't fade, doesn't shrink, is easy to wash, and doesn't require constant cleaning. The average mattress pad is washed about twice a year; more often, if necessary, is possible, but that's just a matter of detail. Therefore, it can be concluded that machine washing won't cause any harm to the mattress pad, and this is indeed true.
However, before you begin cleaning, you should still carefully examine the product's composition. Yes, machine washing is always acceptable, but the washing cycle will depend on the type of fabric. This information will be included on the manufacturer's label:
- Microfiber. A completely synthetic, yet durable material. Machine washable at up to 60 degrees Celsius.
- Bamboo, on the other hand, is a completely natural material that only tolerates a delicate cycle without spinning. The water temperature should not exceed 40 degrees Celsius.

- Polycotton. A blend of cotton and polyester. The most durable and wear-resistant. Machine washable even at temperatures above 60 degrees Celsius.
- Membrane, or waterproof, fabric. Machine washable in cool water using special detergents.
Please note! Liquid detergents, such as capsules or gels, are ideal for washing mattress pads. They won't leave a whitish residue after drying, as they rinse easily from the fabric fibers.
If it is not possible to use liquid detergents, use regular powder, but only with an additional rinse.
Removing unpleasant odors and old stains
If your mattress pad has developed an unpleasant odor or old stains remain, try soaking it in cool water before washing. Since it's quite bulky, it won't fit in a basin; a bathtub is more convenient.
To soak, prepare a solution of salt and baking soda. Dissolve 1/2 tablespoon each of baking soda and salt in a small amount of water, and add the resulting solution to the container containing the mattress pad. Waterproof covers made of membrane fabric must not be soaked in this way!
Dry the mattress pad flat and flat to avoid deformation. Try to protect it from direct sunlight and any precipitation. Dry it either outside or in a well-ventilated area.
You don't necessarily need to wash your mattress cover to refresh it. You can vacuum it or take it outside to air it out. Incidentally, various germs and dust mites are afraid of frost, so air out the cover frequently in winter.
Hygiene rules require washing your mattress pad at least once every six months. Proper washing will prevent the growth of pathogenic microorganisms and extend the life of the product.
