Washing thermal underwear in a washing machine

Washing thermal underwear in a washing machineIn this article, we'll discuss how to wash thermal underwear in a washing machine. After all, thermal underwear isn't just any item—it has special insulating properties and requires proper care to prevent loss of insulation and deformation. However, any item needs to be washed periodically, so let's figure out whether it's possible to wash it without wasting a lot of time and effort, and if so, how.

Machine washing rules

Some people are wary of washing thermal underwear in a machine, believing that this type of clothing should only be hand washed. This isn't true. Thermal underwear is one of those items that can be washed in a washing machine, but you need to follow certain rules and approach the issue very carefully.However, with the right skills, you'll soon be able to perform this procedure very easily. Here are its basic parameters:

  • use a gentle or, in other words, delicate mode/program;wash only in cold water at 30 degrees
  • turn off the spin cycle and do not boil the fabric, as both will negatively affect the thermal insulation material;
  • the water temperature should not exceed 30 degrees for all types of fabric, except polyester (40 is acceptable);
  • buy a special detergent, as powders not intended for use with thermal underwear can ruin it;
  • Do not iron the item under any circumstances, this will destroy its structure;
  • Even in the case of heavy soiling, never use solvents, stain removers or other aggressive agents.

Please note! Thermal underwear is also labeled with a special tag during production, which contains basic care instructions in case you've forgotten anything. Recommendations for water treatments are usually included there as well.

Washing frequency should be moderate. If you wash an item too infrequently, dirt will accumulate in the pores and degrade the quality of the garment. If you wash it too often, the thermal underwear will quickly lose its shape and properties due to wear and tear. The optimal range is 2-3 times a week for daily use, or whenever visible dirt appears.

Selecting a program

choose delicate washNow let's look at which washing mode is best for thermal underwear, depending on the model of your washing machine:

  1. There are two suitable programs: Delicate wash (marked with a feather) and Hand wash (pictured with a hand and a basin).
  2. The Delicate mode, indicated on the panel by a flower, is suitable.
  3. Hand wash only. Marked accordingly.
  4. A delicate program marked with a butterfly.
  5. Here the delicate mode is symbolized by the pen.
  6. There are three delicate techniques here: working with fine fabrics (flower), silk fabrics (butterfly) and woolen products (ball of thread).
  7. The delicate pr-mma is indicated here in the form of a small top.
  8. Delicate pr-mma is indicated by the corresponding inscription.
  9. Thermal underwear can be washed using the Wool program, which is indicated on the panel.
  10. Either use the "Delicate" setting (flower) or the "Manual" setting (hand and basin). The first is suitable for polyester.

As a rule, any washing machine is equipped with a function that allows you to wash clothes in the most gentle way, so finding the right program for thermal underwear is not such a big problem.

How to dry a thing?

Even with proper washing, improper drying can have negative consequences. To avoid this, it's important to know the basic rules for drying thermal items. These are as follows:

  1. Rinse the item thoroughly afterward to avoid streaks. It's best to do this by hand, but machine rinsing is also suitable.
  2. Never wring out your laundry, no matter how tempting it may be. Wringing will cause the garment to become extremely misshapen, and it will be very difficult to fix later.
  3. Thermal underwear should be dried in a well-ventilated area, but not near artificial heating devices or in direct sunlight. You can hang it on the balcony, provided that there is no sunlight and the balcony itself is well ventilated.
  4. Merino wool bedding should not be hung on a radiator, as it will shrink several sizes. Other items should not be dried on a radiator due to the damaging effects of high temperatures.
  5. You can also use a classic dryer or dry it horizontally, if you make sure there is enough air flow.
  6. Avoid ironing and using other high-temperature appliances (hair dryers, steamers, etc.).

If your item is made of synthetic material, it will be easier to dry; excess moisture will simply drain away, and then the laundry will dry quite quickly.
