SUD error in Samsung washing machine

sud errorIf you've yet again thrown laundry into the washing machine drum and started a program, only to have your Samsung machine stop after a few minutes, displaying the SUD code, don't rush to call anyone. After reading this, you'll likely find the cause of this issue, and perhaps even fix it yourself. Let's take it one step at a time.

Error Meaning

Those with a good command of English can easily understand what the SUD error message is telling the user. These three letters stand for the word "SUDS," which literally means "suds." It's not hard to guess that this code didn't appear by chance, but rather because the machine had accumulated too much of this suds. In more detail, this error means that the washing machine has switched to the mode of eliminating large amounts of foam in the drum. All she did was stop for about 5-10 minutes to let the foam settle, and then the washing process continued.

Not all Samsung washing machines have the Sud error code, but that doesn't mean excessive foaming isn't a problem. It's just that different models have different codes for the same error. Similar codes to this error code are 5d and Sd, which are essentially the same thing, as the number 5 and the letter s are indistinguishable on the machine's small display.

It's worth noting that even without knowing the exact code, you can figure out why the machine is stopping by looking closely at the drum. You won't be able to miss the large amount of foam.

Reasons for occurrence

The SUD error on Samsung washing machines can be caused by a variety of reasons. The main one is related to the detergent. The cause is as follows:

foam in the drum

  • Using a detergent that's not intended for automatic washing machines. This is because special automatic washing detergents contain defoamers, while hand washing detergents don't, so they shouldn't be used in the washing machine;
  • counterfeit powder of low quality;
  • The detergent dosage is exceeded. If the items are bulky, it's best to reduce the amount of detergent or use a special detergent. And if the detergent is concentrated, it should be applied strictly according to the dosage.

If the detergent you're using is correct, the problem is with your washing machine. Such problems include:

  1. foam sensor failure;
  2. pressure switch failure;
  3. partial blockage in the elements of the drainage system (hose, pipe, sewer);
  4. control board failure, which happens extremely rarely.

What should you do yourself and what should you contact a professional for?

You can troubleshoot most of the causes of the Sud error yourself. The key is to follow a consistent approach. First, wait until the washing machine attempts to remove the foam. If the error persists on the display, follow these steps:

  • Press the power button, then unplug the machine;
  • open the drum and take out the laundry;
  • the door may be locked, then drain the water from the tank through the emergency drain at the bottom of the machine or through the filter;

    Be careful, prepare rags and a flat container into which you will pour the water.

  • Rinse the drain filter and run an empty program (without laundry or powder) with water heating to 600C, to wash out any remaining powder from the machine.

If the "sud" message appears again while using this mode, it's highly likely that the foam sensor is faulty. Not all washing machine models have one, and in some machines, its function is performed by a water level sensor, often called a pressure switch. The foam sensor cannot be repaired and must be replaced. If you have this problem, you should contact a specialist who will find the necessary similar part and install it correctly.

If the pressure switch breaks, you can repair it yourself. This part is fairly easy to replace. Just follow these steps:replacing the pressure switch

  1. disconnect equipment from communications;
  2. remove the top cover of the case;
  3. Find the water level sensor in the upper corner of the washing machine;
  4. remove the air duct;
  5. disconnect flash drives with wires;
  6. connect a new part;
  7. assemble the car.

In some cases, the system may display a Sud error if foam is not draining from the drum due to a partial blockage in the hose or drain pipe. These parts need to be cleaned. The drain hose is disconnected from the machine and cleaned using a cleaning cable. To clean the pipe, you need to remove it from the machine. This can be done through the bottom of the washing machine.

  1. lay the equipment on its side;
  2. if there is a bottom, remove it carefully;
  3. loosen the clamps on the pipe that hold it to the tank and pump;
  4. wash the part and put it back in place.

After cleaning the pipe, you may need new clamps; they are usually replaced.

As for the machine's "brain," or more specifically, the electronic board, we always recommend contacting a specialist with this issue. Both repair and replacement of this component have their own nuances that should not be ignored, otherwise you could cause further damage to the equipment. But don't worry too soon. If the display shows the SUD error, the likelihood of a control module failure is very low.

Thus, in most cases, you can resolve the causes of the sud error yourself. The main thing is to be patient and follow the plan. Good luck!
