There's no doubt that automatic clothes dryers make life much easier, especially for young parents or those who can't hang clothes on the balcony or in the bathroom. However, most people live in small apartments where even a washing machine can barely fit. So what are the standard sizes of a clothes dryer, and can you find room for one in the average apartment?

What types of tumble dryers are there?

Despite their practicality and convenience, tumble dryers are much less common, making it difficult for potential buyers to visualize what they actually are. In fact, there's nothing special about the device; externally, it closely resembles a washing machine: the same body, loading drum, and control panel.

Here's the good news: if you've found a place in your apartment for a washing machine, then chances are you've already got a place for a dryer. It is very convenient to place a dryer on top of a washing machine: this saves space and reduces vibration of the appliances during operation.

Important! To achieve this arrangement, the dryer must be either identical in size to the washing machine or slightly smaller.

The standard parameters of the units are as follows:

• 0.55-0.6 meters wide;
• 0.55-0.65 meters deep;
• 0.8-0.85 in height.

To save space, manufacturers also offer built-in and compact models that fit easily into any interior and don't take up much space. However, keep in mind that the smaller the drum, the poorer the drying performance. Choose models with a drum capacity of at least 100 liters.

Dimensions of drying cabinets

Drying cabinets are similar to dryers, only larger and with a different design. The cabinet contains a chamber where clothes are placed. A specially designed ventilation system rapidly circulates hot air inside. Therefore, drying efficiency depends not on the chamber's volume, but on the cabinet's height. The higher the height, the faster moisture leaves the chamber due to rapid air circulation.

Please note! The selection of drying cabinets is much wider; some manufacturers even make them to order. Standard dimensions are 1.8 x 0.6 x 0.6 meters (height, width, and depth, respectively).

Let's look at some of the most popular models of drying cabinets and their parameters so you can roughly estimate the dimensions and decide whether to install the device in your apartment.

1. Asko DC7583 – automatic dryer for home use: 1.84x0.6x0.6 meters (height, width and depth).
2. Electrolux EDD2400RH – drying cabinet: 1.85x0.6x0.6 meters.
3. The HOTSTORM is suitable for drying not only clothes but also shoes. Dimensions: 1.8 x 0.6 x 0.495 cm.
4. DION Standart 10 is a cabinet designed for drying linen and light clothing, very large compared to other models: 1.9 x 1.12 x 0.6 meters.
5. The ШСО-2000 is a model that combines an automatic dryer and a drying cabinet, with two compartments: 1.81 x 0.8 x 0.51 meters.

Some cabinets have several compartments, and therefore their width depends on the number of sections. The more compartments, the less heat loss during operation.For ease of use, choose models weighing no more than 60 kg.
