How to test an LG washing machine

LG washing machine testThe LG washing machine's test mode is the best way for the average user to determine the performance of their "home helper." Anyone with any skill level can perform the test; no special knowledge is required. The key is to follow a few simple rules, which we'll discuss in this article.

What is this for?

The service test of an LG washing machine is a special program embedded in the control microcircuit by the manufacturer. This is a whole complex of actions that the washing machine itself performs. LG, to check how correctly its key components and assemblies work. The user initiates a service test of the LG washing machine when it seems necessary, but subsequently, their involvement is kept to a minimum.

error code

Service mode is activated by special buttons and only lasts a short time, but it can identify many LG washing machine problems, helping the technician quickly locate the problem and perform a quick repair. Of course, test mode won't help identify every problem; in this case, the technician will have to use his brain. But overall, this is a very, very useful feature that often helps users save a little money.

For example, if your washing machine has problems with the inlet valve, then at a certain stage of the test you will see on the display IE errorBy easily deciphering this error, you will learn the reasons that caused it.

Calling a technician in Moscow can cost an LG washing machine owner $25-30. A test run will help you identify the problem yourself and decide whether to trust the machine to a technician, repair it yourself, or toss it in the trash and buy a new one.

Where to start?

Now that we've figured out what the "Test" mode on your LG washing machine is for, let's talk about how to properly prepare for it. It's actually quite simple; it's not like launching a space shuttle! However, there are a few things to keep in mind.

  • First, you need to make sure that the washing machine is connected to all necessary utilities: water supply, sewerage, and electricity.
  • When starting the “Test” mode, remove the powder container and rinse it to remove any remaining powder.
    remove the powder receptacle
  • Remove all dirty clothes and any foreign objects from the drum of your LG washing machine. The "Test" mode can only be launched on an empty reel. This rule is a good one to remember for those who like to store dirty laundry in the drum of their “home helper”.
  • Close the hatch tightly and that's it, this simple preparation is complete, you can start the "Test" mode of the LG washing machine.

Test progress

To start the test mode on an LG washing machine, press the following buttons simultaneously: "Power," "Temperature," and "Spin." An example is shown in the image below.

Test launch buttons

If you have an LG without a Russian control panel, then you should hold down similar keys named “TEMP”, “SPIN” and “POWER”. By taking this simple step, you will see that the control panel of the washing machine The LG lit up with all its lights just like a Christmas tree.

Now all we have to do is press the "start" button, and the machine test will begin successfully. The next question naturally arises: how does the test begin, what will be checked, and, most importantly, what should the user do? It's all simple.

  1. As soon as you press the "start" button for the first time, the LG washing machine will begin testing the rotation of the drum in the opposite direction, that is, counterclockwise.

The progress of almost every washing machine test will be displayed on its display. In particular, the first test will show the drum's RPM.

  1. A second press of the "start" button will check how the drum will rotate when starting the pre-spin mode.
  2. Press the "start" button a third time and the LG washing machine will check how the drum rotates at the maximum possible speed.
  3. A fourth press of the same button will initiate a test of the inlet valve and pressure switch. During this test, the machine will fill the tank to its full capacity. You can monitor the filling progress on the display as a digital readout. An empty tank will be indicated by numbers, approximately 261-263, and when it is properly filled with water, you will see a number of approximately 230.
  4. The fifth press of the "Start" button activates a heating element test. Nothing changes on the screen.
  5. The sixth press of "start" controls the water temperature. Again, the display remains the same.
  6. Press the "start" button again, and the engine will begin running in normal mode, rotating clockwise. The display will show changing numbers indicating the RPM.
  7. The eighth step of the LG washing machine test is to check the heating element for rapid on/off. The control microcircuit activates the heating element several times for 3 seconds. During this time, the display will show a number indicating the water temperature in the drum.
  8. Finally, pressing the start button a ninth time will allow the washing machine to run a drain pump test, which will immediately begin draining water from the tank.

Once the drain pump has removed all the water from the tank, the display will increase from 230 to 261-263. If the water hasn't completely drained, the display will show a final figure of 252-259. In this case, you'll need to investigate why the tank isn't draining completely. By pressing the "start" button of the washing machine for the last time LG, we are ending the test mode.

So, as you can see, testing your LG washing machine yourself isn't difficult. Just stick to the steps described in this article, and everything will go smoothly. Good luck!

If the hatch door is faulty, then no testing is possible - this is a major flaw in the vehicle's design.

    • Gravatar str str:

How do you imagine a full tank of water with a door that doesn't work?

  2. Gravatar Nikolay Nikolay:

Is it possible to do such a test right in the store, without any fluff or connection to words?
And what risks does this pose to the machine? Or will it just show an error? Thank you.

  3. Gravatar Glory Glory:

When I press it for the first time, the drum rotates clockwise, what could be the reason?

    • Gravatar Nikolay Nikolay:

The diode in the microswitch is probably soldered backwards, or the contact in the motor is swapped. If it works, then what difference does it make which way it spins?

      • Gravatar Micha Micha:

There is a difference. The nut will loosen over time. The pulley has a right-hand thread, and the drum should rotate clockwise at high speed.

        • Gravatar Evgeniy Evgeny:

This nut will not come loose because it is initially tightened using thread locking compound.

    • Gravatar Dmitry Dmitry:

I have two LG machines, and both spin clockwise. The water level is 230°C when filling and 255°C when draining. I bought the first one 12 years ago, and the second one a few months ago. I don't consider this a defect, since the first one worked for 12 years in hard water and still works just fine. However, water is leaking from the detergent drawer. I sealed all the joints, but I still can't find the source. I've decided to get a new one.

  4. Gravatar Nikolay Nikolay:

The water has almost completely drained, but the display is stuck at 255. What does it mean that the water hasn't completely drained? Why isn't the machine spinning? Where should I start checking and how?

    • Gravatar Alexander Alexander:

      How was it decided?

    • Gravatar Arinochka Arinochka:

These readings are approximate and depend on the air pressure in your region. If the pressure is 760 mmHg, then the empty tank reading will be 260. If your pressure on that day was 755 mmHg, then the empty tank reading will be 255.

Yesterday, I flooded my neighbors with my LG F1269ND. I checked the filter and all the hoses. Everything's fine, I drove it all evening, and it's dry...

I decided to run a service test and three things came up:
    - when pressed for the first time, the drum moves clockwise;
    — when checking the heating element, I waited for about 2 minutes, the water did not heat up;
    — drains water up to 255, then the pump hums, does not stop, and the water does not drain anymore.

Where to dig for points 1 and 3?

    • Gravatar Rex Rex:

Dig towards the service area! Otherwise, the neighbors will ask you to switch floors... And so on down to the first...

    • Gravatar Alexander Alexander:

How was the problem resolved? It's exactly the same for me, just as you described.

    • Gravatar Islam Islam:

I have exactly the same readings. How did you solve the problem?

  6. Gravatar Roman Novel:

I have a WD80150N. The test is activated by pressing the spin mode + mode, timer + on buttons. But the algorithm is different, and there's no drain pump test.

  7. Gravatar Igor Igor:

Nothing about water heating. It ran without any readings. How does the test determine whether the components are working properly or not?

  8. Gravatar Konstantin Konstantin:

The car lost sound, but all circuits are intact, including the buzzer. I replaced the ULN2003, but the sound still hasn't returned. There's no power to the buzzer, it's through the key transistor, and there's no sound. Maybe it's somehow disabled in software and was accidentally turned off?

    • Gravatar Rus Rus:

Some models have a mute mode; your machine's instructions should indicate whether it can be turned off using buttons or a combination of buttons!

  9. Gravatar Albert Albert:

I have an LG F12 washing machine... for example, the F1222SDP. It uses a rotary knob to adjust the speed, not a button. How do I enter the test? Does anyone know? I don't have enough hands to press the power button, the temperature button, and the speed knob all at once.

  10. Gravatar Max Max:

After turning it on, it goes into "cotton" mode and there is no way to change it. What should I do?

    • Gravatar Roman Novel:

I have the same problem, how did you solve it?

  11. Bach's Gravatar Bach:

The water isn't draining at all. What should I do?

  12. Gravatar Igor Igor:

Test mode turned on once and then won't turn on again?

  13. Gravatar Konstantin Konstantin:

In test mode, it runs through all the steps except the last one, step 9, where the drain should be. It doesn't drain. I press "start" 10 times, and it shuts off with a full drum of water. Then I set it to rinse without spinning. The water drains. It periodically displays an OE error and stops mid-cycle. And it takes a long time to process. I assume the pump is malfunctioning?

  14. Gravatar Alexander Alexander:

So we ran the test, so what? Where's the error code decoding table?

  15. Gravatar Ivan Ivan:

I can't test the LG WD 8040. Test mode is activated by pressing the "tempo" + "time" + "power" buttons. When I press the "start" button, the display immediately goes dark and the machine turns off.

  16. Gravatar Mikhail Michael:

    Good afternoon.
The drum won't start. It says it's an LE error. It probably happened after an overload. My wife forgot to take the blanket out and put it back on the rinse cycle, and it was still wet.
    It turns easily by hand.
    What could be the reason?

  17. Gravatar Mikhail Michael:

    Good afternoon.
The drum spins manually, but doesn't when I start the wash cycle. It shows an LE error. What could be causing this? It's most likely caused by overloading. How can I fix it?
