The Stain Removal program in the washing machine
The "Stain Removal" program is usually described in just a few words in the washing machine's manual. Therefore, many users don't understand what to expect from this algorithm and rarely use it. Meanwhile, this function is quite effective and can significantly improve the quality of washing.
Let's explore the features of the "Stain Removal" mode in your washing machine. We'll explain the best time to use this program, how it works, and what items can be washed using this algorithm.
Mode characteristics in the instructions
A brief description of the Stain Removal mode is available in the user manual. The instructions tell you what temperature the wash is done at, what fabrics the program is suitable for, and how long the cycle lasts. Washing machines of different brands have slightly different algorithm characteristics.
For example, the "Stain Removal" cycle in an LG washing machine defaults to 60°C. You can lower the temperature to 30°C. The manufacturer allows this cycle for washing mixed fabrics with cotton, but warns that this cycle is not suitable for delicate fabrics.
The Stain Removal mode is specially designed to effectively combat various types of stains.
For example, the LG washing machine's instructions state that this mode can help remove stains from wine, cosmetics, juice, dirt, and other items. When using this mode, the drum can only be loaded to 40% capacity (for example, with a maximum capacity of 8 kg, only 3 kg).
The "Stain Removal" mode includes a pre-wash phase. This option can't be disabled—it's built into the smart system by default. Spinning is performed at maximum speed (speed adjustments are possible). The cycle lasts approximately 220 minutes on LG machines.
The Samsung washing machine's manual describes the "Stain Removal" mode more simply. The manufacturer specifies the maximum load capacity (50% of the nominal load), water temperature (60°C), and spin speed (the maximum for the washing machine model).
Most additional functions can be connected to the "Stain Removal" algorithm in Samsung washing machines:
- Eco Bubble
- "Delayed start";
- "Easy ironing";
- "Intensive";
- "Soak".
The program also includes a pre-wash stage. This cannot be disabled. This mode is not suitable for delicate fabrics.
In the Atlant washing machine, the water in the drum heats up to 40°C in the "Stain Removal" mode. The maximum load capacity corresponds to the nominal load (if the machine holds 5 kg, you can load that much). The cycle duration (without adjusting the settings) is 80 minutes. Additional options will increase the time.
Manufacturer Atlant warns that this program is only suitable for washing cotton and synthetic fabrics. The "Easy Iron" and "Extra Rinse" auxiliary functions are compatible with this program.
How does the algorithm work in practice?
If your clothes have obvious stains like wine, blood, grass, or juice, you can safely try the program. This algorithm is designed to combat specific stains. The washing result will largely depend on the detergent used, so it's recommended to use high-quality household cleaning products.
All the washing machine instructions reviewed state that when the "Stain Removal" mode is activated, all compartments of the detergent dispenser can be used. Washing powder or gel is a must; you can add conditioner and stain remover if desired.
The "Stain Removal" mode starts in the standard way:
- Load the items into the drum, distributing them evenly inside;
- close the hatch door tightly;
- pour in the powder and fabric softener into the appropriate compartments;

- plug the washing machine into the power supply;
- press the "On" button;
- Use the programmer or buttons to select the “Stain Removal” mode;
- If necessary, enable additional functions or adjust the basic cycle settings;
- activate the cycle.
When selecting the “Stain Removal” mode, the powder must be poured into two compartments of the dispenser - for pre-wash and main wash.
If necessary, you can adjust the machine's default cycle parameters. For example, you can reduce the spin speed or change the water temperature. You can also optionally activate auxiliary functions compatible with this mode, such as "Easy Iron" or "Extra Rinse."
The pre-wash cycle lasts approximately 45 minutes (on LG washing machines). Once finished, the machine drains the water and begins the main cycle. The drum rotates vigorously—this is necessary for removing stubborn stains.
Most of the time—about two hours—the main wash cycle is performed. After this, the machine drains the water from the drum, begins the rinse cycle, and then the spin cycle. At the end of the cycle, the washing machine beeps.
According to homeowners, this program really does help combat old stains. Even tough stains can be removed with this long-lasting cycle. Much depends on the detergent used, so it's important to choose high-quality detergents.
However, you shouldn't throw delicate fabrics into the drum and run this cycle. Such intensive washing and prolonged contact with soapy water can damage the items. This cycle is only suitable for durable cotton and synthetic garments.
