Noise levels in dishwashers

PMM noise levelMany housewives believe that dishwashers operate quietly, that there's simply nothing inside them to make noise. A washing machine, however, with its rotating drum and the centrifugal force that presses against the walls of the machine, causing it to rock back and forth, is a different story. While washing machines are certainly the loudest household appliances, dishwashers aren't far behind. While they're generally quieter than washing machines, even the noise level of a dishwasher can be enough to irritate many.

Today, we've decided to focus specifically on dishwasher noise. We'll focus on how users experience the machine's noise while it's still on the store shelf. We'll also review the quietest dishwashers on the market. Don't miss out.

Determining the noise level of a dishwasher

The main question of our publication today is: how to choose a low-noise dishwasher? Indeed, when we go to a home appliance store and choose a dishwasher, we're faced with models that are disconnected from all utilities. How can we tell which model is noisier and which quieter, since we can't really hear them?

We have no choice but to rely on the data in the dishwasher's technical data sheet. This document specifies the noise level emitted by the dishwasher in decibels (dB). But these values are quite difficult for the average person to understand. For example, if the data sheet states that the machine produces 50 dB, what does that mean? What noise level are we talking about?

Experts recommend comparing noise levels with familiar sounds. This makes it easier to navigate. Here are some examples.

  1. The rustling of tree leaves is no more than 10 dB, a light sound.
  2. Whisper – no more than 20 dB, light sound.
  3. Quiet conversation – about 35 dB, light noise.
  4. A quiet conversation is about 45 dB, average noise.
  5. Loud speech – 60-70 dB, sound above average.
  6. Highway with heavy traffic – 85 dB, loud noise.
  7. Screaming - on average 90 dB, loud noise.
  8. Working drill (distance 2 m) – on average 140 dB, very loud noise.

Compare the readings recorded in the dishwasher's data sheet with the readings of familiar sounds, and you'll understand how noisy the appliance is.

noise intensity

The noise level for a dishwasher should not exceed 60 dB, but in our opinion, these standards are outdated today. Many modern models do not produce more than 50 dB, and it is better to look for machines that produce noise at a level of 45-40 dB. Do such models exist? Plenty, and now you'll see for yourself.

Review of the quietest washing machines

Now let's list the quietest dishwashers that, among other things, have good characteristics. And most importantly, they consistently clean dishes well. Largely due to advertising, the stereotype has developed among the public thatSiemens dishwashers are the quietest. In fact, this isn't true. You can't judge a dishwasher's noise level by its brand; you need to consider specific models.
