Miele stacked washer and dryer
Fitting several appliances into a small space is no easy task. To make life easier for consumers, manufacturers and designers have come up with a great solution to save space. Simply stack your washer and dryer, and you'll gain much-needed space. Let's find out how to stack one Miele appliance on top of another.
How to achieve sustainability?
This design solution prioritizes not only the comfort of the apartment's occupants and the appearance of the "column," but also the stability of the entire structure. It doesn't matter where you plan to use this space-organization method—in a hallway, a closet, a bathroom, or a kitchen. It is much more important to calculate the load on the lower unit in advance and secure the equipment well. Otherwise, vibration from one object may negatively impact the performance of the other. There are several ways to install a dryer on top of a washing machine:
- use a special mount, which usually comes with the dryer;

- purchase wall mounting frames and use them to secure the dryer above the washing machine;
- install both units in a frame/niche made of plasterboard or other material.
Caution! Stacking household appliances in a single column without securing them is strictly prohibited!
The top tier must be secured, otherwise the vibrations from below will cause the dryer to fall and break. The top tier should also not be used for a washing machine, as it weighs significantly more than a dryer. The average weight of a washing machine ranges from 50 to 80 kg, while that of a dryer is 35-50 kg.
Important nuances
Unfortunately, you can't just pick two random Miele appliances and combine them into a single unit. You'll need to consider the parameters of each machine, otherwise, numerous operational issues, including equipment failure, will arise. Therefore, please review our recommendations for site preparation, unit sizing, and utility connections beforehand.
Dimensions. Miele machines should be identical in depth and width. Ideally, you should purchase both machines in pairs. If you already have a washing machine, choose a dryer based on its specifications or one that's slightly smaller.
Communications. Be sure to check the availability of sockets and the ease of connection to the water supply and sewerage system. You can't just place a column wherever you want.
Mounting. You can use any of the methods described in our instructions, but be sure to prepare the mounting hardware before purchasing the appliance. If you're planning a niche, purchase drywall sheets, screws, profiles, and other necessary materials. Alternatively, order a cabinet to the required dimensions.
Caution! For safety reasons, do not operate both units simultaneously. It's best to wait and run them separately—this will significantly extend their lifespan and protect you from unexpected problems.
Before purchasing, research the operating instructions for specific dryers. Some Miele models require a ventilation connection or, if there's no ventilation, a window outlet. Some condensation dryers collect water in a special container. This container can be emptied at your convenience. If you don't want to do this regularly, consider installing an automatic condensate drain.
Installation progress
You can assemble the column yourself. First, check the floor in the chosen location for any unevenness. Ideally, the appliances will be placed on a tile or concrete floor that can easily support their weight. The surface should also be non-slip. Use a spirit level to level the washing machine. Place the dryer on top and secure it with a stand. The stand itself is placed on rubber anti-vibration pads and bolted in place. The dryer's feet are positioned in the provided slots.
The recesses are then sealed from the outside with plugs. Both machines are connected to the utilities according to the instructions and tested one after the other (selecting an intensive mode to detect even the slightest flaw). If the test passes, the column installation is complete.
