Narrow washing machines with vertical loading up to 40 cm
Top-loading washing machines attracted consumers' attention not so much because of their loading type, but because of their unusual size.
In small spaces, top-loading washing machines have become the best way to save space. At the same time, they have everything you need for high-quality washing. Let's take a closer look at top-loading washing machines up to 40 cm wide.
Dimensions
Top-loading machines are mostly the same size. We don't think it's possible to say that any of them are full-size or slimline. It would be more accurate to classify them all as slimline models, as their dimensions are:
- width – 40 cm;
- depth -56-65 cm;
- height – 81-90 cm.
Important! The smallest width of upright washing machines is 40 cm, so don't look for machines 35 cm wide, much less 30 cm. Such narrow units haven't yet appeared on the market. When people say 35 cm, they're most likely referring to the depth of front-loading machines.
Capacity, functionality and efficiency
Let's now discuss the technical features of top-loading washing machines. In addition to limited size options, top-loading machines also have limited drum loading options. The market offers the most units with a capacity of 5 and 5.5 kg. The maximum load capacity of these machines is 7 kg, and there are also units with a 6 kg load capacity. This is understandable, as the narrow frame simply cannot accommodate a large tub and drum, regardless of whether it's top-loading or front-loading.
In terms of feature set, top-loading washing machines are just as good as front-loading machines. They also have options for washing delicate items and down comforters. Additional functions include: steam wash, easy ironing and others.
Please note: Users with a top-loading washing machine report the convenient location of the loading door, eliminating the need to bend over.
Spinning in this type of machine varies depending on the manufacturer and model. Spin speeds in most cases range from 700 to 1000 rpm. However, there are also ultra-high-speed, narrow models with spin speeds of 1200 and 1300 rpm.
The energy efficiency class of a vertical washing machine is at least A, with models rated A++ and A+++. The washing class of this machine is only A, so these machines wash extremely well. Machines of this type can be equipped with a display and touch controls. The only difference from narrow front-loading machines is the lack of drying. Until we came across such models, top-loading machines do not use this function.
Reliability and price
Another important consideration when choosing a 40 cm wide vertical washing machine is reliability and price. The reliability of a washing machine primarily depends on:
- countries of assembly;
- components.
Important! Brand is not an indicator of reliability. For example, Bosch washing machines are assembled not only in Germany, but also in Russia, China, and Poland, which is why these machines perform differently.
One thing is clear: the more expensive the appliance, the more likely it is to be reliable. But not in all cases, as the price can be inflated when the washing machine has a ton of extra features, a touchscreen, and other modern gadgets. The more of these gadgets, the less reliable the unit is likely to be, and repairs will be more difficult.
Therefore, when choosing reliable equipment, it is worth paying attention to electronics. In general, the price of narrow top-loading models is no different from that of front-loading appliances. And they're roughly equal in terms of reliability, again—it all depends on the country of assembly. Machines assembled in Germany, Sweden, Poland, and Slovakia are the most highly regarded. The average price of a top-loading washing machine is around $300.
Review of the best
Let's move on to a review of upright machines, selecting the five most popular models. The main selection criteria for this ranking were price, functionality, and reliability. So, the top five include:
The Electrolux EWT 1377 VOW is a narrow, European-assembled washing machine with dimensions (W x D x H) of 40 x 60 x 89 cm. It has a dry load capacity of 7 kg and is equipped with the latest technologies. In addition to standard wash cycles, it features a stain removal program, an anti-crease mode, and a steam function. The machine costs around $500, which is why it was only awarded sixth place.
This model features a smooth-opening drum door and a drum light. You can delay the start of a wash cycle for up to 20 hours. The drum spins perfectly, spinning at 1,300 rpm. Child safety lock is included, but leak protection is only partial.

The AEG L 56106 TL is a German-made machine with a load capacity of up to 6 kg. Like all upright washers, it's 40 cm wide and 89 cm tall. It's energy efficient, achieving an A+++ rating. It offers a variety of wash modes, but only spins at 1000 rpm. The advantage of this model is the smooth opening of the drum doors and the presence of automatic parking. You'll have to pay a little over $350 for this machine, which is why it only takes fifth place in the ranking.

The Candy EVOT 10071 D is a narrow washing machine with dimensions of 40 x 60 x 85 cm (W x D x H). Its load capacity is the same as the previous model, at 7 kg. The spin speed is only 1000 rpm, but this is still quite sufficient. The control module has 18 preset wash programs, including a stain removal program. This model has received many positive reviews. One drawback noted is the weak drive belt, which some users have experienced within the first year of use. The price for this model is approximately $230.

The IGNIS LTE 8027 is a top-loading washing machine with excellent build quality, which is why it earned third place. Its dimensions are (W x D x H) 40 x 60 x 90 cm. It features only 10 wash cycles, a 5 kg dry load capacity, and an 800 rpm spin speed. But believe me, for a small family of three, this is quite enough for everyday washing. This machine lacks a full-fledged security system, but it costs about $210.

The Electrolux EWT 0862 TDW – this slim top-loading washing machine took second place in the ranking. Its drum capacity is 6 kg of dry laundry, and its dimensions (W x D x H) are 40 x 60 x 85 cm. It offers 14 programs, including a jeans program, a delicate wash, a shirt program, and more. The machine is childproof, but only partially leakproof. The digital display provides all the necessary information. This model costs approximately $220.

The Candy EVOGT 13072 D washing machine earned first place in our ranking due to its excellent price-quality ratio. It has a 7 kg drum capacity and a 1300 rpm spin speed. Its dimensions are virtually identical to those of its competitors (W x D x H) – 40 x 63 x 88 cm. Its 18 wash modes allow you to wash even the most delicate items. A quick wash (30 minutes) is also included, as are the other models listed above. A child safety lock is also included, and you can delay the wash for up to 24 hours. Despite being assembled in China, this machine is in demand, priced at around $260.

So, top-loading washing machines have a standard width of 40 cm. Narrower units with a width of 35 or 30 cm simply do not exist. From a technical standpoint, they are not necessary, and their manufacture is impractical. Even among front-loading machines, there are none that have a depth of 30 cm. super-narrow models – 33 cm, but most of these machines are 35 cm deep. The only compact machine with a depth of even less than 30 cm is the wall-mounted Daewoo Electronics DWD-CV701 PC, which we wrote about in one of the articles on our website.
