How to determine the year of manufacture of a Samsung washing machine
When buying a brand new washing machine straight from the store, you'll immediately know its production year, along with its price and technical specifications. But with used machines, things are different: owners may lose the paperwork and lie to inflate the price. Therefore, to save money, and perhaps even to ensure the machine's warranty is still valid, it's best to independently verify the machine's production date.
To find out the year of manufacture of your Samsung washing machine, you don't need the technical data sheet or warranty card. Simply inspect the unit carefully. Moreover, manufacturers offer two ways to verify data: by serial number and by nameplate. How to do this is described below.
Let's take a look at the nameplate first
The easiest way to determine the manufacturing date of a Samsung washing machine is by its nameplate—a sticker containing brief information. All new equipment is required to be marked with this label at the factory, so that the owner can identify the machine even without a user manual. It shows the name, type of product, service number, main parameters, characteristics and some other information in the form of a table. Among them is the date of manufacture. To find and examine the existing nameplate, you must:
- disconnect the washing machine from the electrical network;
- turn off the water supply and disconnect the drain hose;
- turn the machine, providing free access to the rear wall of the housing;
- Inspect the washing machine from the back, keeping in mind that the nameplate is most often located in the lower right corner.
The rest is simple: look for the "Date of Manufacture" column and the numerical combination opposite. Samsung washing machines indicate the month and year of manufacture, for example, "02.2011." If there are no other stickers on the machine or the sticker is illegible, you'll have to decipher the serial number of your model.
Let's decipher the number
Another way is to determine the year of manufacture of your washing machine by its serial number. This is a unique, multi-digit combination of numbers and letters that encodes all the necessary information about a specific model. The "SERIAL NO" is listed in the unit's technical data sheet, warranty card, nameplate, or on a sticker under the door. Therefore, finding the coveted sequence of characters should be easy.

The difficulty lies in the coding: you can't just glance at the number and know the year of manufacture. The code you find will have to be carefully interpreted, as all Samsung machine combinations follow the same principle. For example, if you have "S/N Y44P5ADC500164W," it can be deciphered as follows:
- The last letter – “W” – is a control letter (not always indicated).
- The last five digits – “00164” – are the individual product number.
- The seventh character from the end (if a control letter is indicated) is “5” – the month of issue. The decoding is as follows: numbers from 1 to 9 determine the sequence of months from January to September, and the Latin letters “A», «B" and "C" are the remaining months respectively.
- The eighth character from the edge (if a control letter is specified) is "C" – the year of manufacture. The decoding is as follows: "Y" encodes 2005, "L" – 2006, "P" – 2007, and "Q", "S", "Z", "B", "C", "D", "F", "G", "H", "J", "K", "M", "N" from 2008 to 2020, respectively.
- The first 3-7 characters – “Y44P5AD” – are the factory code with the product group, location and production line code.
With this decoding in hand, it's easy to determine that a machine with service number "Y44P5ADC500164W" was manufactured in May 2012. The key is to carefully read and match the characters with the coding explanation. Then, you can quickly, accurately, and easily determine the year of your Samsung washing machine's production.
