Top-Loading Washing Machine Reviews
Top-loading washing machines are less popular in the Russian market than in Europe. However, despite this, some people still use top-loading washing machines, and they're eager to share their opinions on how they wash and discuss their pros and cons. We've compiled a selection and presented expert and consumer reviews of these machines.
General opinion about "verticals"
MaTanyushka
I love a top-loading machine. I've had it for years and it's been through a lot. I'm getting old and planning on buying a new top-loading machine. The great thing about a top-loading machine is that you can pause the cycle and add items without draining the water, just in case you forget something, or, conversely, forget to check the pocket, turn it on, remember there was money in it, and then just stop and retrieve it. The only downside is that top-loading machines don't seem to be getting any price reductions, unlike front-loading machines.
Anita
This is my second top-loading machine. I have to buy it because of its size. Both machines are the simplest from Indesit. It's easy to load the laundry without having to bend your back. There are plenty of washing programs.
Crazy mom
My mom really praises top-loading washing machines. Firstly, there's no need to bend over to put in or take out laundry. Secondly, You can add laundry even after the wash has startedAnd thirdly, as my husband explained to me, the drum is secured better in this type of machine, but that's only if you compare it to machines with a belt drive.
For me, the downside to a top-loading machine is that you can't hide it under the countertop or place anything on it, although on the plus side, clutter doesn't accumulate. I should also note that these machines also have a modern design and display; they're not exactly a relic of the past, as some have written.
Indesit WITL 86
Natascha.Remizova
Pros: convenient and useful programs, worked without breakdowns for a little over 3 years.
Disadvantages: inconvenient compartments for powder and conditioner, especially difficult to clean.
The washing machine was generally good, but it broke down quickly. I didn't like the top-loading design, as when I opened the lid, water from the powder compartment drained directly into the drum and onto the rubber band. Overall, I'd give this model a 3. If it had lasted longer, I'd have given it a 4.
Ealecs
Advantages: the machine is indestructible even with daily washing.
Disadvantages: it is inconvenient to wash the powder receptacle.
We bought this washing machine six years ago and washed children's clothes every day. It washes perfectly, and while it's a bit noisy during the spin cycle, it doesn't bother me too much. After four years of active use, the pump broke, and after two more, it broke completely. Repairing it wasn't a reasonable option. I think the machine has been worth the money spent on it for those six years.
Vereshnya Dmitry
Advantages: dual bearing design, experts will understand what we are talking about, as well as dimensions.
Disadvantages: none found, except that detergent sometimes remains in the powder compartment.
Indesit washing machine I bought this 5.5 kg washer six years ago, and during that time it's washed a lot of laundry, especially baby diapers and other items. The machine fits perfectly in my Khrushchev-era kitchen; opening the door is easy, and it's not underfoot. I also installed a folding plywood countertop on top, which is practical and convenient. Installation only required a water supply faucet, and I installed the factory-fitted hoses. In my opinion, the noise during spinning and washing is the same as that of front-loading machines. Choosing a program is very simple.
Candy EVOGT 12072 D
Hurtina Alexandra
Pros: washes perfectly.
Disadvantages: I didn’t find any.
This is the best washing machine I've ever had. It washes away dirt even on short programs. And at 600With the addition of stain remover powder, it even tackles stubborn stains that my previous machine couldn't handle. The loading process is very convenient: just press a button, the drum opens, and you can load the laundry in without bending over. The programs are well-designed for time and practicality, and there's even a hypoallergenic wash option.
Tolstopyatova Marina
Advantages: a set of well-thought-out modes, delayed start of washing, practically silent.
Disadvantages: I didn’t find any.
I really like mine Candy washing machineIt deserves 5 stars. I like the MIX/Wash program, which allows you to wash items of different fabrics. I even wash with it at night, and the neighbors don't hear the noise, and neither do I.
Ivanov Ivan
Advantages: I can’t name any.
Disadvantages: cannot be repaired even after years of use.
Perhaps I got a defective model, but when the warranty period expired and it broke, the repair shop said they couldn’t help. I can't choose top loading anymore; water leaked from under the lid and immediately hit the control module, which burned out in a matter of seconds. I won't set my sights on Kandy again.
Grebeshkova Alexandra
Pros: spacious and compact, fits well in my bathroom.
Disadvantages: I didn’t find any.
In three years of washing, I haven't found any issues. It washes perfectly, and I love the mixed load cycle. The spin cycle doesn't bunch up or tear clothes. The drum opens easily and smoothly, allowing you to load two towels and a full set of bed linens at once. Everything is washed perfectly.
Zanussi ZWQ 61215 WA
Sladkov Alexey
Advantages:
- simple control;
- build quality;
- does not vibrate;
- has the necessary set of programs;
Disadvantages: a bit overpriced, only 2 adjustable legs instead of four.
It washes well and looks quite stylish. It's a bit noisy at maximum spin speed, but it doesn't bother anyone except the cat. Nothing fancy, just a good workhorse.
Mikhalevich Elena
Advantages: attractive design and convenient controls.
Disadvantage: the linen tears when washed.
This model is disgusting, as I've already ruined more than one expensive item in it, including satin curtains. The problem is that during the wash, threads are pulled out of the fabric and wrapped around the drum's fasteners. Small holes appear on cotton items after this ordeal. I wouldn't trust my washing to a Zanussi machine again.
Samerkhanova Gulnaz
Pros: build quality, parking available, attractive design.
Disadvantages: compared to Mile Zanussi it washes worse, but it’s quite ok.
The build quality and functionality justify the price. The top-loading design is easy to use. I had no doubts when choosing this machine. It has plenty of programs, but you can't test how well it washes in the store. So, I can only give it a 4 out of 5.
Electrolux EWT 1567 VDW
Dmitry Pikin
Pros: nice design and convenient touch controls.
Disadvantages: does not rinse well and tears laundry.
I didn't expect such quality and washing results from an Electrolux washing machine. After purchasing it and using it for two months, I'm disappointed. The number of programs and features aren't worth the price of about $500. It washes poorly and only drains water once per wash cycle, resulting in white laundry turning grey. You add too much detergent, then you have to wash it a second time. Basically, no savings. And the drum rivets tear things.
Evgeny Savitsky
Pros: excellent spin class at 1500 rpm, cool control panel, German build quality.
Disadvantages: the drum does not lock after washing, the price is a bit high.
I found what I was looking for. I was looking for something advanced in terms of electronics and software, but also at a more or less affordable price. This Electrolux model is my favorite. I was considering a top-loading only model; I had a similar one before, but an Ariston, which lasted four years. I like the machine in every way; none of the shortcomings are significant.
Anonymous
Advantages:
- Washes perfectly.
- It makes practically no noise.
- Convenient control.
- Convenient powder tray.
Disadvantages: control panel not in Russian, hard pressing of the drum lid opening button.
We chose only an Electrolux washing machine because our previous one had been in service for 19 years. Initially, we were skeptical about the build quality. After all, they're assembled in so many places these days. However, we don't regret the purchase; the machine fits perfectly, and we really like the design. I'd give it a slight minus 5 for a similar top-loading model.
Whirlpool WTLS 60812 ZEN
Tatiana Nikitina
Pros: I don't know what to call it.
Disadvantages: unreasonable price, makes noise like a jet engine, does not spin well, gets stuck.
Before this purchase, I washed in a Bosch top-loading machine, but even that old Bosch was better than the new Whirlpool. It was a complete waste of money, and I paid about $450 for it. I wouldn't recommend Whirlpool machines to anyone.
Anonymous
Pros: automatic parking, convenient top loading, excellent spin and wash.
Disadvantages: a bit noisy when spinning, whistles a bit, the menu is complicated, you have to look at the instructions every time, water drips directly onto the laundry when you open it.
The machine washes great, but I didn't find it to be as energy-efficient as advertised. The price is too high; similar features can be found cheaper in competing models. However, I thought the Whirlpool would be more reliable, which turned out to be unjustified.
Bosch WOT 24454
Linar Almazovich
Advantages: number of programs.
Disadvantages: stiff buttons, very noisy.
I bought this top-loading washer for just $250. I installed it myself. Even on the first start, at 800 RPM, the washer was making a loud whistling noise throughout the apartment. But it doesn't vibrate. The washing machine is clearly of Russian manufacture; there can be no talk of German quality. I am disappointed with the purchase, my rating is 2.
Anastasia Eremeeva
Pros: There don't seem to be any.
Disadvantages: it’s impossible to list them all.
It makes noise and vibrates from the very first wash., but there was no way to replace it. Three weeks later, the washing machine literally almost fell apart; a strange metallic whistling sound was heard inside during washing. After the warranty repair, only the circuit board and housing remained from the factory parts; the internals were replaced. After the repair, the machine continues to malfunction and even produces electric shocks. In short, I was out $250.
Anatoly Yanshin
Pros: washes and spins well, programs correspond to those stated in the instructions.
Disadvantages: the drum does not stop strictly vertically, you have to turn it a little.
The machine is quite noisy at maximum speed, but at 600 rpm it's almost inaudible. I've been using it for a year now and haven't had any issues. For the price, I'd say the washing machine does an excellent job. Due to its shortcomings, it only gets a 4.
AEG L 70260 TL
Sergey Fedorov
Advantages: many washing modes, user-friendly display, convenient detergent drawer.
Disadvantages: none.
This is my first time using a top-loading washing machine, and I'm not disappointed. It washes perfectly, without any vibration or rattling. It did malfunction a couple of times during a 20-minute cycle, but that was due to improper installation. After fixing the issue, the malfunctions have been gone.
Maletin Igor
Advantages: compactness and capacity.
Disadvantages: whistling and humming during spinning.
After reading reviews of top-loading washing machines, I chose the AEG model. I ordered the AEG L 70260 TL and installed it myself, leveling it on a flat, hard floor. Following the instructions, I connected the machine to the water supply and sewer lines and did a test run. The control panel lit up, the program started, but no water entered the drum. The machine sat for a while, then froze; restarting it didn't work. I took the machine to a mechanic, fortunately, everything was under warranty. They took the machine in, and a day later they called to say that their water was filling up and that the problem was improper installation.
I agreed with the technicians' reasoning, took the machine back, plugged it in again, and sure enough, water began to fill and the wash cycle began. Everything was fine until the machine started spinning. Then I felt like I was on a plane taking off. The machine started vibrating and rattling terribly, so much so that the windows shook. I called the service center again and asked for a technician to come out to inspect the washing machine again and measure the noise level. The technician came and measured everything, but he didn't think the machine was making any noise, and the device showed the noise level was within acceptable limits.
Then he spun a long yarn about how all vertical hair dryers work this way, that it's normal, and that I should just get used to it. Then he got up and left, and I was left dumbfounded and alone with my purchase. I don't like giving up, so I filed a complaint with AEG and will wait for a response.
Ardo TL 85 S
Dmitry Abakumov
Advantages: washes well on all modes, does not damage clothes.
Disadvantages: very noisy.
I bought this machine a long time ago, about 10 years ago now. It's been through a lot: three moves with drunk movers, merciless abuse from neighbors in a shared apartment, and still nothing. It does rattle, bounce, and vibrate, but I didn't level it because my plank floor is uneven. If you put it on a level and sturdy surface, it might be quieter. I often forget to add items to the wash cycle, and this top-loading machine allows you to pause the cycle and add more items.
Evgeny Chambartsev
Pros: A very reliable washing machine, nothing has broken down in 7 years, even though it runs 2-3 times a day.
Disadvantages: over time it began to hum and vibrate more, and unwashed powder accumulates in the tray.
I bought this car seven years ago at a hardware sale. It served me well, without a single breakdown. There wasn't even a minor issue. Now it's starting to drain poorly. I checked it first and determined the problem was with the drain pump. I'll replace the impeller, and it'll work like new. I recommend this model to everyone.

I'd like to write about my ZANUSSI. It's been in use for 14 years, and I've had two repairs during that time. The weak point is the bearings. Overall, I'm happy with the work. Now I'm faced with the choice of repairing it again or buying a new one. I'll be choosing a European-assembled machine.
I completely agree with you. Zanussi's weak point is the bearings.
The Zanussi machine is good. It lasted for 10 years. The weak link was the bearings. It only needed repair once.
We bought an Indesit WITL 86 top-loading washing machine in 2004. It never malfunctioned during its entire life! Now, the metal top lid has started to rust. The drum has also started making a slight clunking sound, so we decided to buy a new one, also top-loading!
My Indesit has served me faithfully for six years now, without any complaints whatsoever. It's simply a good and reliable model, washes and spins perfectly.
Our Candy CT-725 T top-loading washer was purchased in July 1996 and has served us faithfully. Unfortunately, today (October 4, 2017), the bearings started making a whistling sound. Where can I find a replacement?
Change the bearings
I have a Hotopint vertical washer. This brand, although not included in the review, also washes great! It has lots of useful features, washes and spins quietly, and takes up very little space.
Oh yeah! I also have a Whirlpool wtls60812 zen, and I really like it! Even though I'm not a big fan of vertical racks, this one has changed my mind. As for the noise, you just need to install it properly and that's it! It should be on a flat surface, and the anti-vibration pads won't hurt either; we have some.
Hotpoint Ariston, 20 years old, no repairs, great car. Died today.
I have a BRANDT washing machine, made in France. It's been working for 15 years without any repairs. It has a metal drum. But it's time for a replacement. I'd like to get the same brand. But the prices are exorbitant. Thanks to the French for the quality!!!
I've had a Hotpoint Ariston artxf1097 for 8 years, but during that time the heating element has been replaced, and the electronics have been malfunctioning for a while now. The lid is rotted, the paint is peeling, and I have trouble unlocking it.
