Which hose should I choose for my washing machine?
The washing machine is connected to the water supply and drainage pipes using two hoses. These are included with the appliance. However, over time, the inlet hose can become damaged. This can cause leaks, poor water supply, and the need for a new hose. When choosing the right inlet hose for your washing machine, it's best to consult with a professional.
What does the filler tube look like?
A hose is a washing machine component necessary for connecting it to the water supply. The quality of this component protects against leaks. If it malfunctions, the owner risks flooding both their apartment and the apartment below.
The inlet hoses are made of polyvinyl chloride. To ensure their strength, reinforced thread and nylon braiding are also used. The hoses are equipped with plastic fittings and nuts on both ends. Pressed metal sleeves are located next to them, ensuring a tighter and more secure connection. When connecting the hoses to the washing machine, it is best to tighten the plastic nuts by hand. If you do this with metal tools, you can damage the fasteners and cause cracks to appear.
Important! Manufacturers place markings on their hoses. These markings indicate the maximum water pressure at which the product can be used. Typically, the markings indicate 20 bar.
Types of fill hoses
When purchasing a washing machine, consumers can't always objectively assess the quality of the accessories. As a result, problems may arise when connecting the appliance or after some time of use. Sometimes the cause lies in faulty hoses. There are several types of inlet hoses.
- A simple rubber tube. Its cost and quality are low.
- Reinforced hose. It has a reinforced outer layer made of stainless steel and a nylon braid. Compared to the previous type, this product is more reliable, but does not provide 100% leak protection.

- Double tube. Typically made of rubber, this hose is equipped with an Aquastop system—an additional valve or knob with powder inside the tube. This prevents water leaks. If the tube is damaged, water is prevented from escaping by closing the valve or swelling the powder.
Please note! The Aquastop system is a single-use system. It prevents leaks and property damage, but it only provides protection once. After that, the hose must be replaced.
Once your washing machine's old water inlet hose fails, it's a good idea to opt for high-quality reinforced inlet hoses or those equipped with the Aquastop system. Inlet hoses can be fixed or adjustable in length:
- hoses with constant size up to 5 m;
- corrugated products that can be stretched to the required length to connect the washing machine to the pipes;
- tubes in a coil, designed for installing equipment away from pipes, at a distance of up to 10 m.
Most washing machine manufacturers produce replacement hoses for their models. These can be purchased separately in stores. Choosing a reputable brand also provides additional protection against purchasing a low-quality product.
What to look for when buying?
You can buy washing machine hoses at home appliance or plumbing supply stores. To ensure you get a reliable product, it's important to familiarize yourself with the specifications. The most important parameters to consider are listed below.
- Hose length. Washing machines can be installed virtually anywhere in an apartment or house. The key is to keep the distance to the water supply no more than 5 meters. This is the maximum hose length recommended by manufacturers. When connected, the hoses should not be pulled tightly or, conversely, coiled. This can shorten their lifespan. Calculate the optimal hose length before purchasing.

- The maximum internal pressure the product can withstand is indicated on the marking. However, since it is impossible to determine the exact pressure maintained in the pipes, it is best to select a hose with a margin of safety when purchasing. A hose rated for 20 bar is suitable for connecting a washing machine in an apartment, while a hose rated for a higher internal pressure is suitable for a private home. Hoses equipped with the Aquastop system can operate at pressures up to 70 bar.
- Maximum temperature range. Inlet hoses must be able to handle both cold water entering from the pipes and heating it up during washing machine operation. Water temperatures can reach 90°C.0When washing on the "Boil" program, many hose manufacturers guarantee that their products will withstand +1000C. Only cheap tubes can't handle the thermal load. They might melt.
Choosing a high-quality and reliable inlet hose means protecting your home from leaks and avoiding repair costs. When purchasing a hose, pay attention to pressure and temperature ratings and calculate the length correctly. If the hose is chosen correctly, connection and operation will be hassle-free.
