What height do dishwashers come in?

Dishwasher dimensions play a major role in kitchen cabinetry. It's important to know not only the width and depth of the niche where the dishwasher will fit, but also its height. Some people think all dishwashers are identical in height, with the exception of countertop models, whether built-in or not, which will easily fit under a standard countertop. But that's not entirely true, so let's look at the possible heights of dishwashers.

Tall dishwashers

All dishwashers between 61 and 85 cm tall can be considered tall. These models are available in both built-in and freestanding versions. In most cases, built-in dishwashers are 2-3 cm lower than freestanding ones, this is due to the absence of a top cover. Some people, without considering the height of the machine, buy a freestanding model and then figure out how to squeeze it under the countertop. It's good if the top cover can be removed, which can save the situation, but not always. But if the top can't be removed, what then?

That's why it's important to understand the available dishwasher heights and not rely on luck. We started our search with dishwashers between 61 and 70 cm tall. The results showed that there were no such machines available on the Russian market as of May 2016.

However, there was only one dishwasher on sale; perhaps you can find one in stores abroad. It's an AEG F 84980 VI dishwasher, assembled in Germany. It's unlike many other dishwashers in that it's very wide—almost 90 cm—while being 70 cm high and 58 cm deep. It's a non-standard dishwasher, holding up to 12 place settings and featuring a turbo dryer. It operates quite quietly and can be built into cabinets.

Next, we looked for dishwashers with a height of more than 70 cm but less than 80 cm. These are also not available for sale. It turns out they do exist, though. Perhaps someone has a dishwasher just like this. Here are a few examples; perhaps you'll find this model in a store somewhere.

• The Kuppersbusch IGVS 6808.2 is a 12-place setting dishwasher with turbo drying from a German manufacturer. Its dimensions (W x D x H) are 60 x 57 x 78 cm. Eight preset wash modes will handle any type of dirt.
• The Foster KS-2940 000 is a dishwasher with a 12-place setting capacity and turbo drying. Its 8 wash programs include delicate and baby dishwashing modes. Its dimensions (W x D x H) are 60 x 55 x 79 cm.
• The V-ZUG GS 60NZ-Vi is a dishwasher with a capacity of up to 13 standard place settings. It operates quietly, producing a noise level of just 44 dB. It features 5 wash modes and measures 60 x 57 x 76 cm (W x D x H).

Most dishwashers are between 80 and 85 cm tall, regardless of whether they're built-in or not. Here are a few examples:

• Miele G 4263 SCVi Active – built-in model, dimensions (WxDxH) 60 x 57 x 80 cm;
• Miele G 4203 SC Active CLST – freestanding model, dimensions (WxDxH) 60 x 60 x 80 cm;
• Bosch SMV 50E30 – built-in model, dimensions (W x D x H) 60 x 55 x 81 cm;
  

  Please note! Freestanding dishwashers with a height of 81 cm are not currently available, but similar models exist and may appear on the market. For example, the Bosch SRU 43E02 SK.

• Hansa ZIM 428 EH – built-in model, dimensions (WxDxH) 45 x 57 x 82 cm;
• Gorenje GS52214W – freestanding model, dimensions (WxDxH) 45 x 60 x 82 cm;
• Vestel CDF 8646 WS – freestanding model, dimensions (WxDxH) 45 x 60 x 84 cm;
• Bosch SMS 88TI03E – built-in model, unfortunately not available for sale, dimensions (WxDxH) 60 x 60 x 84 cm;
• Candy CDP 4709 is a freestanding model, dimensions (W x H x D) 45 x 60 x 85 cm;
• BELTRATTO LI 4500 – built-in model, dimensions (WxDxH) 45 x 55 x 85 cm.

Please note! Dishwashers with a height of 83 cm are also not available for sale, but they do exist, such as the built-in Hotpoint-Ariston LFS 215 A X.

The tallest dishwashers

The tallest dishwashers range from 86 to 91 cm in height. For example, Dishwashers with a height of 86 cm belong to the premium class, their cost ranges from $900 to $1700. They offer impressive performance, reduced water consumption, and low noise levels. These dishwashers are available from the following brands:

• Asko D 5896 XXL (60 x 55 x 86 cm);
• Fulgor FDW 9016 (60 x 56 x 86 cm);
• Smeg STLA865A (60 x 55 x 86 cm);
• Kuppersbusch IGS 6908.0 GE (60 x 57 x 86 cm).

Dishwashers with a height of 87 cm are represented by only two companies: Kuppersbusch and Gaggenau. Smeg offers 89 cm high dishwashers in a collection of color machines in pink, blue, white, black, orange, and beige.Not long ago, Hansa and Imperial offered 89 cm tall dishwashers. Only a couple of models we found were 91 cm tall. These were high-end Kuppersbusch dishwashers.

Please note! Dishwashers with heights of 88 and 90 cm are not currently available for sale. Such models were available from brands such as AEG, Candy, Hotpoint-Ariston, Miele, and Wellton.

Height of compact dishwashers

Finally, we need to determine the height of compact dishwashers, most of which are countertop. These dishwashers are popular among singles and small families, and they fit perfectly in small kitchens. Moreover, these machines are often placed under the sink rather than on the countertop. In this case, the height of the unit is especially important, as it requires sufficient space not only for the dishwasher but also for the drain trap.

So, compact dishwashers have a height from 40.7 to 60 cm. The lowest dishwasher The Whirlpool ADG 1900 dishwasher is currently unavailable. It measures 40.7 cm tall, 60 cm wide, and 57 cm deep. A slightly taller model, the Flavia CI 55 HAVANA, is available at 43.8 cm.

There are a lot of dishwashers with a height of 44-45 cm. These are dishwashers of the following brands: Bosch, Hotpoint-Ariston, Candy, Korting, Indesit, Electrolux. There are very few dishwashers with a height of 46 - 49 cm. These are mainly models of machines from little-known brands, such as Beltratto, Foster, Baumatic, Mabe, Elenberg.

There are practically no dishwashers with a height between 50 and 55 cm, the only representative being the NEFF S66M64N3 dishwasher, which is 50 cm high, 60 cm wide, and 59 cm deep.

FYI! We didn't find any dishwashers with heights of 56 and 57 cm; most likely, they simply don't exist.

The premium Italian dishwasher Smeg STO905-1 seemed unusual: not only does it have a non-standard height of 58 cm, but its width is also 86 cm, which is rare. There is a limited selection of 60 cm high dishwashers, these are machines from Bosch and Ginzzu.

Therefore, dishwasher height can vary from 44 to 91 cm. Most importantly, when chasing centimeters, don't forget about the capacity of a low-profile dishwasher. It might be worth finding space for a larger dishwasher rather than regretting buying a smaller one later. Happy shopping!
